  1. I want to give an update concerning what I learned (or didn’t learn) about iTind at my public hospital.  When I enquired about it with my urologist he didn’t understand and had me spell the word. That still didn’t ring a bell with him so I said it is a procedure whereby they insert basically a stent then remove it after a week. The word stent did it for him and he told me that the hospital didn’t offer that procedure and that it was used mostly for people that, for whatever reason, couldn’t have surgery. He then offered to refer me to the doctor that does Rezum.

The fact that he wasn’t very familiar with iTind made me lose some confidence in this urologist who has otherwise been as good or better than my experience with my urologist at a private hospital.

At this point I can still live with my symptoms so I don’t think I will be making a move in the near future.

It is a procedure designed to combat BPH, by widening the passage in the prostate, through which the urethra passes (actually they are part and parcel of the same thing) which of course can cause water retention, and it is an alternative to the long used TURP procedure.

Somebody posted that person will have to get the procedure done after 4/5 years, but the poster would have been better saying that someone MAY have to get the procedure repeated down the line. Actually, even with a TURP, which reams out the prostate, it can grow back again and sometimes the operation is required nine or 10 years down the track, so nothing is guaranteed.

There is a poster on one of the Prostate threads who had the Rezum operation done, and although it didn't go too well for him early on in the piece, he has reported back that it has settled down and he is peeing almost normally again.

I've researched all of the options, this after having a TURP, and a BNI, which still did not alleviate all of my problems, and if water retention was a problem for me I would go after the Urolift or iTind procedures. As it is, I have a neurogenic bladder which doesn't empty fully and cannot be rectified by the two procedures I've mentioned, so I am now adept at using a catheter, which wasn't where I would want to be at my time of life!

Hi xylophone, I think iTind is available in Thailand now as well. I’m going to see my urologist in a couple of weeks and will ask him about this procedure as well.

I know a guy who had it done a few months ago in Bangkok Hospital Pattaya. He was pleased with the results and, although it's not a comfortable experience having something stuck up your willy (unless you're into sounding, lol), he didn't mention any pain.  The cost was 200K Baht which his local medical insurance picked up. He had to wear a pee bag for a week afterwards but after that was removed everything was fine. I also read that it's good for just 5 years, but as it's a new procedure they may just be guessing on the safe side of things there. I also checked the price in a UK private hospital and that was £5K to £6K, so about the same. The days of Thailand being a cheap medical destination are well and truly over, at least for us Brits.

Thanks for the reply.  Good to know that someone had a positive

    outcome.

IMO how well the procedure works and any side effects are very much in the hands of the urologist/surgeon doing the operation.

Which means in a public hospital the doctor may not be as well qualified or experienced.

So true and since the procedure has only been available in Thailand since January 2022 I would guess not many doctors have extensive experience unless they have been practicing in another country.

My brother recently had this procedure but for a number of reasons!  With Thailand pass no longer required I urged him to return to the States, which he did to obtain a second opinion as to his condition.

For whatever reason Rezum stuck in his head because that what was recommended by the private hospital 200,000 baht, he flew back home free through his Medicare plan.

He did no research on the procedure and no good when it comes to pain.  My research was different because how does sticking a rod up and into your penis doesn't hurt I said nothing didn't want to pshych him out.

In the end, he got Rezum because that was his choice said it was painful that he cry the whole time and nearly past out.  After had a bag so he could <deleted> after a few days removed the insert from procedure still hurt but peeing better but close to 2 week. After a week from the procedure Doctor said you good to good he is back in Thailand now.

There are tons of YouTube video on it plus others the results noted in one since it is fairly new 2015, no long term data on results but sound like 5 years might have to do it again.

Curious please note your location and cost they gave you?

It essnt a cake walk as noted in videos.

I’m located in Rangsit and the ballpark figure for the cost was 100,000 Baht

  6. I recently discovered that my local govt hospital is offering the Rezum procedure for BPH at half the cost of some of the private hospitals. I would appreciate hearing pros and cons from people that have had this procedure. Thanks

  7. Does anybody know if there is a medical watchdog association in Thailand?  Is there somewhere a person can go to get information on a specific doctor?  Things like where a doctor trained, how long the doctor has been practicing, the number of procedures performed and the number of complaints or malpractice cases if any.   Thanks

  8. If you don’t mind coming into the Bangkok/Rangsit  area there is a place at about Khlong 7 or 8 on the Rangsit -  Nakon Nayok highway that has an incredible selection of small to huge trees. It is a series of small places that line a dirt Soi that extends a kilometer or two off the highway. It looks like they must supply landscapers for large building projects. If you are interested let me know and I will try to give you a more precise location.

  9. My wife checked a price for a product on Lazada. 40 Baht. I checked the price for the same product on my iPad. 59 Baht. Then I checked the price for the same product on my phone. 75 Baht. Can someone help me understand why Lazada shows three different prices on three different devices for the exact same product?

  10. This a pet peev of mine. I don’t enjoy crawling under the kitchen sink every two years to replace the tap. I have found that if you trot the leaky tap into HomePro and complain they will send it out to be rebuilt. Sometimes free, sometimes 500 Baht. Depends on how they are feeling that day.

  11. Yes, I have lights on the fence and in the garden. I see many termites around them when they are active but few around the house and the lights are off upstairs when they enter.  That has me puzzled.  If things get worse I will look into an exterminator.

  12. Every few years we get termites swarming after sundown. When this happens we always end up with fifty to a hundred in the upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms. They just seem to appear out of nowhere. At first I thought they may be coming up through the drains but have now found that they come from the downlighting. They come in even before the lights are turned on. When it happened a couple of nights ago I went up into the attic space to see what I could see. Nothing noticeable at first but when I started looking under the fiberglass insulation I did see a couple. There is supposed to be screening covering all the space where the roof overhangs but I was unable to inspect it all.  Obviously there must be an opening somewhere. So after all that rambling here is my question. Is it possible that they could establish a colony in that space?  There doesn’t seem to be any thing for them to feed on.  There is just roof tile, cement, fiberglass insulation and sheet rock up there.  Might it be possible that they are eating the paper backing off the sheet rock somewhere under the insulation?  What are the usual methods of extermination used in Thailand in case things get out of hand in the future?  I’ve never seen a house tented here.

  13. I am wondering if other Americans did not receive their SSA-7162 in June as usually happens each year.  Hopefully it will come in the second mailing in October. I don’t look forward to dealing with Manila to try to get things reinstated.
