  1. ok, lot of things to answer there :)

RabC: fumy line :) But my idea was more preventive than anything else. There's not a line of anything aggressive inside of it. It's not Mad Max times yet.

Orac: I really don;t understand where you found the idea for "Farang only", but it was certainly not in my posts or in my head. Next, I indeed feel very sorry for those who lost their homes, but I don't see it as a reason to contest my suggestion and to stop trying to protect my relatives. And a first age baby milk is not a superficial "preference", it's something important for the baby.

Darrel: Thanks, I didn't notice, my Thai Visa is going fresher now. I'm an old school dino from Usenet and I like the plunk system. Save times.

Rimmer: I heard Tesco found better deliveries, and their central stock place starts to be accessible soon. Big C said they stopped eggs importation as their local supplier were enough to meet the consumer demands. I didn't go shopping since last Sunday so I have no idea if the shops are going better at the moment

Darrel again: Yes, and Pattaya is full of crazy drivers, it reminds me why I don't want to live in Bangkok and why Pattaya is not that bad during normal times.

The shop FarangBuddha said is a good shop and they have huge stock. Prices are decent. So if you have an infant and need supplies, go to it, they have everything needed in good quantity. Anyway I have everything for 1 month now. It will give me time to see how things are going to evolve, especially for the spring water. If it is still a problem in 2 weeks, I WILL organise something for myself (and for those who want to be in)

But things are still not normal: My wife went to the small market yesterday in Nongprue after the bridge up to the highway, and was astonished by the vegetable prices : she said everything was 30% or 40% more expensive. Some people were complaining a lot. She had to pay between 600 and 700 Baht when she paid between 300 or 400 Baht for exactly the same thing a couple of weeks ago. I hope this is only temporary as it is very vital elements for a lot of local people.

    End of report :)

  2. There is the danger of further food shortages as the last two large industrial estates still standing in Thailand, on the eastern edge of Bangkok, are in imminent danger of flooding. The estates include many food processors, including the "Farmhouse" brand bread factory, a Nestle factory, and others. If they should go, there will be shortages of even more basic foods and packaged goods :(

We need to do something and stop waiting for the disaster to come. After it can be too late and I will not risk anything for my baby and my relatives.

We should find a target where goods are still available and send there a few trucks. We can organise something with a small minimum of 5 or 10 of us. We make the list of what we want, we share the expenses so we can have our stocks.

  3. ok, so there are clearly shortages for some of us.

Is there anything else we can do than trying to find the latest bits of everything in the shopping around?

Does anybody know where are the wholesaler and distributors? Or if there are places with normal stocks anywhere within a few hundred kilometres radius? We could try to organise some supplies ourselves and send a few trucks somewhere to bring back things we need. I'm ready to be part of a plan like this one.

  4. OK, so let's back to the point, shortages and stock availability. If we centralise our efforts here, maybe we can help each others for our needs.

FarangBuddha , I sent you a message about First Step baby milk S-26 Gold

I'm still looking for Aura water packs, if anyone has an idea where to find any...

I confirm eggs are available at local markets.

    Thanks

  5. I regret VBulletin doesn't offer a functionality to filter messages from people you don't wish to read once you are authenticated. I'm going to contact the developers for this feature request right now.

To come bacb on topic: If there are people interested, I will open a facebook page or a open here a dedicated thread about the shopping situation in Pattaya and around, so we can share information and details about our experiences and try to help each others. The Facebook page can be a good option as it is easier to delete pollution and unproductive/bitter messages. Please tell here or by private message if you are interested, if we are more than 4 at the beginning I will give it a start.

  6. I know not everybody likes the store, but credit must be given to Foodmart in Jomtien,

Thanks, I will give it a try.

As I said, I use this topic to have news about the shopping situation and where to find things. If we cannot do it here, I will open another thread dedicated to it to try to redirect and centralise posts in this area.

  7. If there is no problem as some suggest why did I have to go hunting for ciggies this morning as the local 7-11 had none of my brand? They have had no tinned milk for weeks or sugar, cakes, peanuts, water and a lot of other products.

The problem is really, really about the spring water. I cannot find my water packs anymore. Yes, I could go to more usual water, reversed osmosis dead water, or half contaminated water from the street blue distributors, but I would prefer to have Crystal and Aura water packs. And I cannot find them anymore, anywhere.

Eggs seem plentiful now, thankfully :)

There are at the local market and a lot of them were imported last week.

  8. essential items are everywhere

    even back in 7-11's now

you folks should open your eyes more

Sometimes I think I'm still dreaming and I should wake up again, as everything seems to be a dream.....

Timekeeper, I take note of your insistence and repeated sentences, but we don't live in the same reality.

  9. I advise again to stock up if you still can as things can still get allot worse. Bangkok is slowly being strangled by the flood waters. It Is about to get cut-off from the south of thailand as well so more foodstuffs, water, and seafood/meats will have to be diverted from the Eastern Seaboard to keep Bangkok feed. There is also a good probability that Swampy will flood and therefore no supplies could be brought in to there to supply the city. If central Bangkok floods, as appears likely, there will be a second wave of refugees in Pattaya putting a further strain on already short supplies of essentials.

I stocked for 3 or 4 weeks, and after 2 weeks, I have today more or less the same understanding as you. More, the government appears to be engulfed and I'm not sure they will really be able to provide supplies before quite a long time.

  10. Just back from shopping. It's a disaster everywhere. Baby milk first step, Aura water and Coke can are almost impossible to find in Carrefour (ex), Tesco... Most of the 7/11s don't have Coke or Spring water at all now.

With the flooding not going better in Bangkok, I start to worry a bit.

If someboy knows where to buy Aura water packs, please tell me as we start to be short.... Thanks !!!!

  11. Believe it or not, we in Bangkok have started receiving bottled water at 711 from a company in Chonburi.

Good ! I'm very happy you can find water in 7/11 there. I was telling myself it could be more difficult to find drinking water in the center of Bangkok than in the suburb of Pattaya because the number of independent drinking water makers.

The best news is we really seem to be heading out of penury.

  12. I wonder why they're importing water into Pattaya from these far flung countries when there's a perfectly good local supplier in Rayong?

    This is an excellent question.

But maybe they imported Spring Water , not drinking water?

To be honest most of the locals here have no problem finding water. I still have my weekly delivery for our cooking water (big bottles, drinkable 6 litres water. ). The problem is mostly about the brands we usually find in the big retailers, and I presume it's this kind of bottles they imported?

  13. not central festival shopping centre pattaya

    the vicinity of central pattaya............

I never remember the name of this shop.... The spring water bottles I saw on Saturday were at the shopping center located in the ground floor of Central Festival... No idea the name of it :)

About the bottles you saw, I don't know were it was exactly, I don't remember you told about it...

    its called Tops

its in the basement of the Central Festival Centre on beach road/second road

the bottles you saw were an Australian spring water brand

And like I post earlier, some bottles from Singapore and Italy as well. I noticed 3 different brands this day.

you are right, i did not say where that stock of bottles in the picture was

no one asked for three days and then only one asked when i pointed out no one had asked

people are so desperate for stuff Huh?

I take it for a good sign, they are not dying and they obviously find their water per themselves. Good news, isn't it?

  14. not central festival shopping centre pattaya

    the vicinity of central pattaya............

  15. on Saturday afternoon i posted this picture (below) of a huge stack of water for sale in Central Pattaya

i deliberately left out the location.

Yes, I saw it. We had as well a few messages about water bottles in Central.

    you know what?

not one single person on or off Thaivisa has asked me where it is!

so much for serious problems and people taking it seriously.......

And it's quite a good sign as well. It means they are not dying :)

Anyway I think things are slowly back to normal, a lot of people returned to Bangkok and it seems the government imported a lot of things and tried to synchronise the big retailers to deliver to the shops.

Let's hope we are heading to the end of this.

  16. Guys, can you please open your own thread for your flaming? This is serious visual pollution.

I'm trying to see if the shops have stocks back and how the situation is, and that's why this own thread is made for.

It seems things are slowly coming back to normal, but I will be happy if people continue posting their shopping experience here.

For those interested, I saw farm eggs yesterday in the Siam Country Club market.

Cheers to everyone especially for those who have difficult times.

  17. Water in Tops Central Festival if anyone desperate for it at 65 bht per bottle Think it 1.5.

Yep, I saw it on Saturday.

Good spring water from Australia. Some bottles from Italy and Singapore as well.

And a staff in Bic C Sukhumvit told me yesterday they were expecting water delivery today or tomorrow.

  18. The country is in face of its highest disasters for decades and the first point some are asking is: "Are you crying?"

I can't believe such a lack of thought.

When you are in front of fire, you need to focus on important matters and it's important to see only one head. I suggest journalist from people magazine to go out of the game for a few weeks.

  19. It's totally crazy. There's no water ANYWHERE.

In Carrefour, Makro, Tesco Sukhumvit and Big C sukhumvit, there's no water at all anymore. there's poor noodle soups but I think the shelves are going to be empty before the end of the afternoon. We asked staff and they said they usually have delivery twice a day but they didn't see a truck for a few days now.

Worst, I tried a couple of 7/11 as well and they are short of water too. And I noticed yesterday some people with big pick ups really full of water pack for their personal usage.....

The local news asked people this morning to make stocks : this added pressure to the panic buying. Or maybe they know something about actual and future delivery problems so they tried to warn the people?

By the way I checked with my wife's family, and it is more or less like I supposed: only a few people made stocks. Most of them didn't receive salary yet or were busy working so they didn't noticed the water run out. It means they made no stock yet, some of them are waiting for their salary. If the shops are empty this coming week end, it's going to be a very big problem for a lot of people.

On Makro car park, some people were talking about possible oil stations problems, saying a lot of them are already closed in Bangkok because delivery problem too.

I think we need information and be reassured about coming deliveries for first need goods like water and oil. If the supply chain really broke, it can go nasty and badly very fast.

  20. Just back from shopping.

I think I just saw the most impressive water panic buying I've ever seen in my life.

No water anywhere anymore, and people going home with trucks full of water packs.

If they don't deliver the shops very soon, a lot of people are going to be on a shortage very soon...

  21. I just had one look at Unity and decided I'm not touching that distro again.

I'm a KDE user, maybe that explains it.

Stay or come back to 11.04

Don't upgrade except if you are on a tablet or a mobile device

11.10 sees the apogee of Unity :( and the end of Gnome 2. There's no "Ubuntu classic" anymore. You can try Gnome 3 but it's a total mess. They didn't make a default for KDE so you will have to make it run per yourself and make it cohabitate with Unity 2D, good luck with that.

Ubuntu is going badly recently, with frenetic crazy updates every months, and it seems everyone there have switched to a tablet or a mobile phone, so they totally forgot the people still using a workstation.

  22. I regret this very good article wasn't posted before. Someone could print it and try to give it to a maximum of concerned people, it would have been great help for a lot of volunteers or people simply trying to protect their house. Now it's quite late as the barriers are already tentatively constructed...

  23. _56056460_bangkok_floods_464map.gifJust for your info, here's a pic

    post-120902-0-94432300-1319103427_thumb.

Exactly. How do you want to block all this water? With a few sand bags?????...

They have to find ways where it can go, as fast as possible, so it will not raise too much. At the same time, they have to protect critical areas like electrical power plants etc...

I wish I have a real time satellite view of all this.

Blocking it leads to flooding. Eventually it will gain strength and your dams will break (they are not that strong here).

I am in a flooded village a bit outside of BKK and it would be good for me if Bangkok started to let water flow. Its either letting it flow controlled like Yingluk wants to do now or wait until something bursts.

Robblok, we think the same. They have to let it go when they can still control a bit or everything will break and it will be totally unpredictable.

God luck to you and your relatives in this difficult situation.
