1. "The driver of the Mercedes, Charn Thaiphadungpong, 57, said that after dropping his nephew off at the school he discovered that his car had problems, so he turned off the engine and put it in neutral so he could push it. In an effort to align the wheels correctly, Charn started the car but allegedly lost control, ..."

There is a different thread today, talking about average IQ...

Riding a water buffalo was good during the past centuries. It will still work well.

We must blame the car dealers, not the drivers.

  2. Amen, or should I say Awomen.

Margaret Thatcher, Angela Merkel, Golda Meir, Indirah Ghandi, Benazir Bhutto, Curazon Aquino.

    Just a few.

You surely meant your comment as a joke?

But agrreing to the somewhat sexist implications, me too would be much distracted from a discussion with this lady.

This is a compliment to good looks ;)

Anyhow there is still this rumour that beauty and brains are not a good match :whistling:

  3. So what?

You study seriously at school - learn a proper profession - - - and you do not need to depend on a job at KFC.

The service I usually experience there - and other junkfood chains as well - reflects their payment. Or the other way round.

And if I do not like instant noodles, I still can become a monk and cadge my rice for free.

    For everything else - - - there's MASTERCARD

  4. animals were not put on earth for us to ride. nor for us to torture by stabbing at them to make them obey commands. if you've ever seen a wild elephant you would know how dangerous and unapproachable they are.

the way elephants are "domesticated" is horrific - google "phajaan"

elephants can be incredibly gentle creatures, but they also possess awesome strength, and most elephants used in trekking have severe mental as well as physical scars. if someone had systematically abused you on a daily basis, then it would only be a matter of time before you snapped and took it out on whoever was closest to you.

it's unfortunate this woman was injured, and it's not her fault she was unaware of the dangers, but there needs to be more education in these things. anything involving wild animals, no matter how "domesticated" they appear, carries a huge risk for obvious reasons.

And God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth

Since centuries mankind is using animals for all thinkable purposes; not the least, to 'only' eat them. And there is nothing wrong with it.

Riding through a forest/jungle on an elephant is much more environment friendly than to use an off-roader and to produce noise, pollution and landscape damage.

Since Hannibal even the Swiss should know about elephants.

Since TV and internet actually ANYONE should know about elephants.

A mis-use by a Mahmout or the general 'operation' of an animal must not be tolerated. We have an obligation to responsibly make use of the resources.

  5. - - - "Thailand created this war and (Thai Prime Minister) Abhisit must be responsible for the war and should be brought before international courts of war crimes," Hun Sen said." - - -

Correct me if I am wrong:

To begin a war is not a crime.

It is rather a traditional approach of extended political activities.

A war crime followingly is not to stick to the 'rules'

So, the PM is not yet outside of the usual frame; sowhat outdated in his methods maybe, but how can we know that: we are more than 500 years behind...

If this is a real war, there may exist a conflict with the Hague convention, Part III (on the opening of Hostilities)

Or shall we quote Axl Rose?: "What's so civil about war?"

  6. Where is all the reporting on the positive, optimistic, and inspiring good news in the world? It is out there for sure, but it seems most sites and newspapers like this are addicted to sensationalistic negativism.

I agree that the positive side of life is much less reported.

In this special article however I not really see sensationalism. Someone else might read it and will not rent a jetski - - - as a consequence he will be alive the following day.

If it is only for saving this one life, the article was worth to be published; no?

I see the trouble with the jetskis that people have free access and they are made believe that operation is fool-proof.

Just imagine how it would be like, if cars and bikes or aircrafts were rented out with no (driving) license shown beforehand.

    There was a mentioning of the group guide: He had seen the risk and had warned his guys. I find this to be a positive report (as a detail);

Hoping that the cat is ok is not so absurd as it looks: The boat's crew might have been harmed as well: I know of a case where a powerboat out of control went up another boat and shaved the upper construction with its propellers - the surprised crew could duck down just early enough...

  7. Considering that I take this news for serious:

I would be interested if minor heart or brain surgeries will soon be carried out by Tuk Tuk Drivers,

Or if there is a house on fire somewhere, a local fisherman will be in charge to coordinate rescue work.

I further wonder if Nok Airlines will be in charge to issue tickets for wrong parking.

    If the answer is 'yes':

I reckon that it is time to run :wai:

Considering that in fact I don't take this news for serious:

I am looking forward to 1st April, if the issue can be topped.

  8. About a year and a half ago my niece, who was 12 at the time, was reading something, and then came and told me she was scared. I asked her why and she said that according to what she was reading, which was supposed to be a very old Buddhist text, that in the year 2053 that BKK would be "lost to the sea" and be completely gone. She didn't care about BKK, but was worried about what might happen in Chiang Mai if that did happen. I told her we'd be fine.

    :whistling:

Do not worry: That was 500 years ago!

  9. As for the Indians, they're just .. [ 2 words deleted ]

    Agreed on that.

Racism in general is wrong. But if certain ethnic groups by experience are majorly troublesome:

Certainly, a few pitbull terriers are not aggressive - but would YOU risk it?

On the other hand - observing guys from my own colour...The world could be nice actually. Only, there are all these homo sapiens!

  10. Well said.

The line that caught my attention was

"To what extent has Islam played a part?"

They managed to make light of it with a large part of it.

Excuse me it is the whole not a part...

    AND:

...We all know that far and away the majority of Muslims want nothing to do with the radicals and are content to live in peace.

Is this now a new religious forum?

Make a point now my friend: Do they, or do they not want?

And what actually do they want? In YOUR eyes?

I am a Muslim myself, and I don't give a dam_n of who is right or wrong there. Same goes to Palestine: These are local affairs and if religion is involved, then as usual by individuals to exploit their personal options.

If your idea would be correct, I would be there now to bomb out 'enemies', too.

The world must be freed indeed - - - freed from stupid prejudices.

    Salam!!!

  11.
Anyway, you people can afford it.

Rucharee: That is not the point.
Each item or service has ONE value in itself. To make some people pay more for it than others is unfair treatment and results only from greed.
Would you also agree to paying 200 Baht for a bowl of rice; because one can afford it?
Would you insist on paying for a flight ticket to Europe (or wherever) only 1000 Baht; because you can't afford more?

12.
My suggestions:

Body weight below 45 kg = skirt 20 cm
45 - 55 kg = skirt 40 cm
above: BURKA

However: it makes sense to combine skirt issues with an obligatory wearing of under-wear. In extremely tempting cases perhaps reinforced with leather and a padlock?

I will volonteer as safety post, then to help keeping up the high level of moral and well-behaviour in Thailand.

BTW: I wasn't aware that it's April 1st again

  13. However this (original) statement is interpreted: It seems to be a Thai internal matter. I understand the term 'quality' as sort of overall usefullness in social and economic participation (sorry, I found no words to say it more complicated  ) This makes sense to me and I agree that free access to knowledge to everyone (who has the mental potential) is a secure way to develop a country (Not the only one of course)

With the present situation I would be willing to participate in population increase in general, but I would not surrender the education of my offsprings to the authorities as we find them NOW.

As I am given very limited rights here - and daily am reminded of it - I have limited interest to return whatever is expected beyond my basic obligations.

(By posting my opinion I already contribute more than intended)

This may look different from a sole Thai point of view, but would then be the topic of a different forum.

We also must observe that each of these quality units are actually - - - real people! This issue deals with individual's feelings the same way as with quality (whatever that is).

  14. General warning

Leave the comparisons to Nazi Germany out of this topic

If you cannot comply members in violation will earn a suspension.

    Admin

    It will be considered.

Is it allowed then to refer to US slavery, Apardheid, The East-India-Company politics, Roman and Hunn invasions, Crusades, etc?

ONLY and just in case that it serves to explain a brain-concept of course. And additionally censored to match an Admin's opinion?
