  1. What about insurance?

Still covered without a green book?

Yes it is possible to get an insurance for bikes w/o books

It would be more accurate to say that there are insurance companies who will be happy to take your money and sell you a policy, but when the day comes that you need to make a claim, they will be perfectly justified in denying said claim based on the fact that the vehicle is not road legal.

BBBKK yes this is right as this never happend for myself i have no idea but i can imagine they will refuse to pay. Neither i read of any cases like this, would be interesting though. I just mentioned it is possible to get an insurance which is fact cause i do have such, about policies etc. no idea. Another thing is that the insurance paper is helping alot if you get stopped by BIB (unplated bike)

  2. i talked to the staff at a famous bangkok bike shop recently and they had imported a big BMW 1250 adventure among others and were in the process of making a book for it

Is that a 1150 adventure with a big bore kit....? tongue.png

Don't buy a bike which someone has to "make" a greenbook for...unless you want to get burnt in the future....

possibly ,i dont know bmw 's model line very well

looks like a cool bike though ,if maybe a bit heavy

back on topic though ,yes , a green book is being organised for it which implies to me ,it Can still be done

all these crack downs will do is drive out the amateurs

the large operations are still importing bikes as fast as they can sell them ,more than likely they are on first name basis

or maybe even have uncle .brother ,sister ,cousin ,wife etc working at the DLT

i dont think anyone is going to stop and say,aha well ,it was nice while it lasted but now its time to follow the rules ,No more Bribes for us ,

lets just sell the BENZ and buy a hyundai because we cant afford that anymore if we go back to our govt salarys biggrin.png

Thats the point, of course on this board the general message should be dont buy invoiced bikes because alot can go wrong. But again if you know the right people and know what you are doing IT IS POSSIBLE and always have been.

  3. Don't buy so-called invoice second hand motorcycles, what are imported motorcycles which have all the correct import papers, taxes and duties paid but didn't register the motorcycle in Thailand (greenbook and license plate). The thing is with the current ban on imported motorcycles you cannot register a imported motorcycle, even it was imported 2-years ago.

i think thai fixers can still get books organised

also ,pattaya superbike shop seem to have the ability to get books for all their import bikes

(all their bikes are registered to the shop first ,then you wuil be the 2nd owner when you buy from them if i understand their policy correctly )

maybe the goalposts have shifted a bit but i think it can still be done by people who do this all day ,every day + a bit of money to grease the wheels never hurts smile.png

Agreed, when i recently asked a "fixer" i got the same answer, so if you know the right ppl and willing to pay the price everything seems unchanges. Anyway this law is approved but not yet coming into effect, and who knows how this is going to take?

Is this confirmed? Or the price of the usual dealers who can do such grey imports registrations just rising up? Cant imagine it will be really impossible because too much $$$ in this buisness...

  5. Ad removed. Guess it's gone already.

I saw it last night and gave it serious thought of calling, then riding straight down and picking it up. Could probably sell it in a week for 180k!

Aeehmmm strolling seems you mixed something up. The Kawa on sale for 120k is a D-Tracker not a Ninja 650......

  6. yes, this is exactly what i'm aspiring to and in 3 years time they will fall into my budget, i have seen them pop up from time to time on mocyc.com

Good luck with your search and if you want to sell yours in 2-3 years time, let me know wink.png

    Karl

Its in the diary Karlos.. of course small matter of actually getting one first... but I tend never to let details get in the way of a discussion.... any hints as to where one might be procured ? Ive looked at mocyc and ducaticlubthailand but nothing much there and have trouble understanding mocyc most of the time. Did see a place called ERAWAN which had a number of big bikes listed but cant seem to find website etc for them.

Monty plenty ducatis on mocyc but most of them w.o book. Erawan is also a shop listed on mocyc, but same here no books for the most. With book the price is of course high blink.png

Yeah thanks Hili, how is your new baby.. you got a SR4 correct ?? The guys back home jokingly suggested i start smuggling a 848 in bit by bit then pay for them to have a holiday when its all there and they will put it all together.......

Alas i fear the ole 848 with green book may be an elusive beast...

the monster is fine absolut joy to ride totally different from what i have ridden before; puts smile on my face every time i ride. Its a S4R btw.

If you seriously thinking about a 848 i would go for a new one (if i had the money) just 928k HAHA.

    thats mine.

  8. Thanks. One last question: Is it possible to get the plates made in a different province than the one your address in located in?

Then you have to go the DLT of the desired province. But some DLT may refuse as they will check your certificate of residence and will refer you to the DLT according to your residence.. but as awalys nothing is impossible if the sprockets are well greased :D

  9. You have to inquire at the DLT office that will issue your plate to see if the number you want is available.

If it is you pay less than 1000 baht and it's yours, but often you will have to wait a few weeks for them to make the plate.

Really popular numbers such as 9, 99 , 1, etc are usually offered at auction and can go for big money.

Some DLTs do have fix prices for special numbers the more special the number the more the price. 99 for 3500 @ SamutPrakan DLT.

  10. Coming back to the noise topic. I would say in Thailand it counts if you are louder you will get more attention on the road/ in traffic means other making space or getting out of your way. I expierienced that many times, but this counts mostly here not in other countries specially not in Europe. Which doesnt mean the exhuast have to scream like mad; there are many nice aftermarket exhausts which are loud but in a nice way...

  11. I do not trust one of the dealer anymore, that would be the one after Thaksin Bridge, just not to name it.

I was told that mechanics at the dealers are actually trained by those from Rama 9. Make your own conclusion. Mine is done and I am sending the bike at Rama 9. Their insistence on repairing my bike and me being satisfy gives me much more confidence than the dealer's mechanics.

I wounder. I always serviced my bike there and was always satfisfied with their job.

  12. a ride on songkran....

Nice ride out. Some of the kids near me were a little insane, running out to the 3rd lane to throw a bucket of water at me, crazy and at 50kmh+ it bloody hurt biggrin.png

But with exception of a few little psychos it loved every minuet of Songkran on my new bike this year smile.png

P.S. What the hell is it with that cat and durian? biggrin.png

Yeah i know what u mean but for this ride i was prepared to get wet so i was driving ambient, quite fun enjoyed the empty streets.

    my cat likes durian :D

  13. Yes 250r is cheaper, but I think is very slow, i saw some videos on youtube and 250r seems twice as slow as 650r

I saw on youtube how fast 650r is, enough for me.

I dont have experiece riding big bikes, i have small bike for many years as a kid, than bought a car and ditched the bike because in europe the weather is so cold.

Here you can ride all year and that is why i love to buy one.

I think 250 is very slow and it does not have that sound that I want. I think 600r is a beast and too dangerous for me.

    I am also tall guy,

the main problem is that i like the design of 250r more than 650r, the front part of 650r is like a enduro, at least a bit, and that is what I dont like.

And 250r is super cheap, I would buy one for 100k easily.

Is there a place I can test this in pattaya? 250r?

I dont have a license yet, only for car, but that is not enough for 250r i guess.

Where about in Thailand do you live? You would be better renting a 250 for a week or so and see how you feel on it as you might just get to use to it and may wish you bought the 650.

I nearly bought a Ninja 250 but just went for a 600cc instead and I am glad I did as I use it out around SaKaeo but if I stayed in town I would probably had gone for the 250.

Of course a 600cc bike is normaly the better choice but for someone who doesnt have expirience riding "big bikes" dont think its a good idea here in Thailand. Due Secondhand value remains well get a 250 get used to it and after step up.
