  1. I am considered disabled by the VA due to chemical exposure..  I have both legs, both arms, and can walk.  But  sometimes have a balance problem.  Been driving a car in Thailand 10+ years .

Failed the motorbike riding test twice.  Problem is keeping the bike balanced.  I asked the licence office about qualifying as disabled and she quickly said no wthout giving me the chance to explain.  She said I did not look disabled.

Anyon̈e know the disability qualifications and if not being able to maintain balance is one of them?

Quite normal in Thailand to sell stock models for campaign prices if there where a new updated mdel, if not, might not be any price difference. Often they separate the year's with just adding an new colour option. Bought both car and big bike on campaign packet prices for earlier years.

Many models is updated on a 3 year cycle.

Still you got a new bike straight out of the box right?

On display in the front window of the showroom.  Only one they had unless some in back warehouse.  Loaded on truck and delivered.

  3. Bought new Honda Grom ABS a few weeks ago.  Talk to salesman about many things.  Never thought about asking the model year.

Assumed it was a 2025.  Roughly a week later looked at the sales paper for the year.  Nothing.

New a little about VIN's, so did a little looking on the internet and found the position of the year.  It was 2R.  Looked up

the code 2R and it said the 2 was the month, Feb, and the R was 2023.  Feb, 2023 was when the bike was produced at the factory.

So I paid the price of a 2025 model for a 2023?  Haven't talked to the dealer yet.  Wanted to be sure had my facts straight first.

    Would appreciate your thoughts

    Thanks.

Reading between the lines, you have pissed them off and this is their way of getting back at you-and maybe even trying to extract some coin from you.

Insinuating that they dont know what they are doing, getting mad at them and the cardinal sin of bringing your wife, suspect she may also have said something sarcastically to them in Thai.

I just dont understand why people bring their wife with them to do retirement visa, the officers speak good English and I know for a fact, it pisses them right off too.

Just be careful, they may try stitch you up, make sure your ducks are in a row.

My wife goes everywhere with me.  Basically, for translation purposes and she knows her way around both geographically and people wise.  I have never been aware that they did not like wifes to attend.  Maybe they can't say the things they would like to say if the wife is there.  I will talk to her about that.

Is your extension under consideration? at what IO.

I got my extension.  They only had a problem with one document.  My SS I usually give them a copy of the 1099.  This year I had difficulty in finding it, so gave them a letter from SS stating what my monthly amount would be for the new year.  It matched what was on my bank statement.  She seemed to be irritated and ask for the same I gave last year.  She said it was very important.  She was going to give me the extension anyway and let me bring later.  I thought I would try to find it one more time and did find it on my phone.  She was happy, but the damage had already been done.

Samut Songkhram is the office.   Always been a pleasant office.  The previous manager retired.  She always treated us well.  New manager this year maybe will to.  Just need to give her a chance.   The thing that got me upset was the home visit.  Never had one before except when I first came to Thailand.  Plus, basically saying some foreigners seemed to lie and scam.  I felt that statement was directed at me and I did not take it well.

Cannot get over the number of responses this subject has gotten.  Maybe I will be famous and can take my act on the road.  ???? ????

OP: The following statement confused me a bit:

Based on reports by others doing retirement extensions, Immo looks for evidence that funds in excess of 65K baht (equivalent) was depposited into your Thai bank account from overseas each month for the past 12 months.

They simply verify this by looking at your bankbook, which should have the code for foreign cash transfer for each amount.

I haven't seen anything about reconciling with the bank in the US.

Frankly, Immo doesn't care where the funds come from -- just as long as you have 12 consecutive transfers into your account from outside Thailand.

So, what was the confusion at the office you went to. And it would help to know which province you did your extension at.

    Thanks.

    Samut Songkhram.

Wife went to their office.  She said they stated they would start visiting every year.  She asks why.  Response was some foreigners lie about where they live.  Basically, calling me a liar.

On my 10th extension, I was in and out in 10 minutes.  There were two people in the office.  They looked at my record online.  Saw that I had no lates on 90 day and no lates on annual extensions in 10 years.  Briefly looked at the paperwork I submitted.  Approved and out the door in 10 minutes.  That is the only time that it happened like that.

As far as income verification, this office wants a copy of my U.S. bank transactions for the year.  They want to see the source of the money going into my U.S. bank.  Then they want to see the Wise transactions transferring the money to Thailand matched up to the deposits in my Thai bank.  Also want an updated bank book and a bank letter of certification.   They also want either 1099's or a certification of income for each income source.  This is what I have been doing since the income letter was done away with.  As you said, Thai bank statement should suffice.  Seems like they want to make it as hard as they can.

The employees are fine with money in bank.  When it comes to income, they have not received sufficient training.

Now I have to do four 90-day reporting's, annual extension, and a home visit every year.

  7. Bought a new car and it has a USB port next to what I call the cigarette lighter plug in.  The dealer installed an android head unit.  It worked pretty good at first using my android phone as a router.  Now it connects, but when you try to play a song on Youtube,  it plays for maybe 5 to 10 seconds and stops.  Hit the play button again and it does the same thing.

Been looking at USB router dongles that take a sims card, but there are so many I have no idea what will work.  I see a lot of 4G LTE usb dongles.  Will they work in my car usb port?  If not, can you recommend something else?

    Thanks in advance

  8. I need to get signatures notarized on a deed.  I have always gotten notary services done at the embassy in Bangkok.  I made an appointment, but it is a month away.  Thought there might be quicker way.  Thai lawyers provide notary services.  Would a document notarized by a Thai lawyer be valid in the states?

    Thanks in advanced.

  9. Have a friend back in the states who is retired Navy.  From talking to some of his friends who have done it, he claims it is possible to get the vaccine from the Navy here in Thailand if you are retired military or VA connected.  But, you have to go through the American Embassy first.

I've looked at the Embassy website and could not find anything.  Anyone aware if such a program exists and how to access it?

    Thanks in advance.

  10. Need to replace my Philips CPAP.  Philips is too expensive at least in Thailand.  Was looking at Ventmed auto CPAP DS6 on Lazada.  Anyone have an opinion on this machine?  Or, can recommend another.

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in 2008.  Given a machine, but was not able to adapt.  People said important to use, so I would try again with no luck.  I would say I have actually used  CPAP 20% of the time, but keep on trying.  I now have a doctor that is constantly on my case about using it to the point they become angry if I don't.  So, my machine is now shutting off and going into alarm mode every night.  It is about 12 years old, but then had very little use.  Decided to replace than repair.

    Thanks in advance.

  11. Thanks for the info.  I am on a retirement visa going on 11 years.  The marriage is 11 years.

There is a man involved and I cannot figure out if there is anything going on.  There are other issues to.  I am actually ready for it to be over, but at my point in life change is not easy.

    Thanks again.

  12. May need to get a divorce, but not sure where it is best to get.  I would like to stay in Thailand.  I've read a few stories of guys packing a bag and leaving same day.  They want to avoid problems with the legal system, wife, and her family.

Get divorced in Thailand or U.S.  Which is best?

    Thanks in advance.

  13. Need to check to see if a Thai citizen that I knew years ago has passed away.  All I have is a name.  Most likely it would have occurred in or around Bangkok. Is there a central database that contains the records and every province can access it or do you need to know what province and go to that province?

    Thanks.

  14. I am trying to locate someone in a Bangkok district, but the district office will not give me her name and address.  You have to be in their yellow book.  I have a name and address, but they are 50 years old.  Most likely they do not live there anymore or even alive, but thought I would confirm.  The address I have split with the original district office, then split again.  It is my understanding by splitting the new district office changes the address and is no longer the address I have from 50 years ago.  I need to get the new address from the current district office and they will not give.

Can I go to the police and get some kind of authorization to have the current district office give me the information I need.  I am making some changes to my will and would like to put this person in it.

    Thanks.

  15. Where can I buy ink compatible with a Canon Pro 100 in Bangkok?

Refill kits are available in the US and UK, but surely with all the ink choices in Bangkok there has to be ink that is compatible with the Pro 100.  I don't want to get the wrong ink and ruin my print head.  Want to refill OEM cartridges.

    Thanks

  16. I'm going to try the photo shop route and see how that goes.  Can anyone recommend a shop?  I checked on the internet and found some shops, but only one that had a price list that I can find.  I'm looking for basically 8 x 10's and the one shop wanted 25 baht.  Not sure how that price compares.

As far as the photos lasting, I've seen sold UV sprays that are suppose to protect the photo and make them last longer.  Problem is even if the spray does protect, the picture looks better without the spray at least what youtube videos test results I saw.   However, I purchased a clear can of varnish from B2S they recommended and it has seemed to work real well.  In fact I tried it on a couple of pictures I have the trouble with the pizza wheel marks and the scuffs and it cleared them up.  I was pleasantly surprised.  Too early to tell 100%, but it has promise.  It may be varnish will crack and yellow over time.  Small can was only 50 baht.  A can of protectant made specifically for protecting photos is 750 baht.  Question is will varnish make the pictures last longer.
