  1. I just came back from there. I stayed in Batu Feringghi for about three weeks. Then went into Georgetown for 3 weeks. Easy to get around. Prices go up on the weekends and holidays. Batu Feringghi doesn't have much. Unless you like bird watching. The park is pretty nice.

Personally I liked Georgetown better. If I wanted to go to Batu I hopped a bus. GREAT Food.

Malaysia is not cheap IMO. I knocked around from Georgetown to Frasiers Hill, Cameron Highlands(great place to visit) all along the coast.

    Have fun.

  2. Pretty common on the lake. I took the boat ride two days, and both days got a shot of the KF.

Can't remember now( getting old) but I think that was with the 400mm.

Just noticed your icon. That is a killer shot! Was that at Phu Khiao?

  3. Lol yeah they're hyper.

I was with my walkabout 400mm without IS late afternoon.

That is a sharp lens. I use a 400 for BIF allot. So light and easy to use.

Nice shots from the north BTW. Haven't made it that way in a while.

  4. ^ Birdsthatfart, worth a look, great pics Gary!

    Than you so much.

Crazy name for a birding site I know. When I retired I decided to make birding and travel my hobby, and the name reminds me NOT to take my hobby seriously.

A very relaxing and stress free hobby that is way underrated IMO.

I update my flickr site regularly also: http://www.flickr.com/photos/avianphotos

    Great photos on your Flickr account ;

    Thank you biggrin.png

    Hey thanks.

I looked at your profile page. I am 3 days older than you.. He he..

Next time I run threw your area I will shoot you a mail. Maybe we can snap a few pics and chew the fat... As us southerners from Texas would say.

    Regards, Gary

  5. I am sure this has been talked about, can someone tell me the scoop.

I had a retirement visa here for years. I let it lapse and traveled some.

Now I want to get a new one.

The question is. Do I have to leave the country to get a non-0 visa?

Can I get one in Thailand?

I am currently here on a two month tourist visa.

    Thanks

  6. I totally believe that view. I just came from a month in Cambodia birding.

Take a lone trip and stay in that area for a few weeks. Travel around to the villages and just look around.

While birding there alone. I was treated very good by the local tribes people. Who helped me get my truck out of ruts many times.

The only time I felt threatened there was by the loggers.

They sent there guys to make sure I was not taking pics of the illegal logging. Which I wasn't. But, if I were. I can tell you now. I would of been disposed of promptly IMO.

Here is a blog on the birding in that area. I left out the bad parts. The birding and people there are really great.

The loggers? They keep the tourists away. It is pretty bad situation.

    Terrible situation.

Wow some great shots! Please throw in the rest of your shots on your site as soon as possible! I've never seen these birds before... I've booked marked it.

Hard to believe those birds are just a very few miles from the Thail border. They all used to be see in Thailand. But Thailand has deforested the lowlands almost totally. And the habitat is lost in Thailand.

Actually I don't know for sure? But, I bet Cambodia is no worse than Thailand was 50 or so years ago. Sad state for sure.

My flickr site has a few more birds from that area. http://www.flickr.com/photos/avianphotos

Starting from this shot: https://www.flickr.com/photos/avianphotos/16623184968/ there are fourteen pics from that area mostly.

    Cheers,
