Anybody know the general price for un-split and split bamboo in various sizes, diameters and lengths?
-
No I do not have a Thai Wife.
I am here on a NON-O Retirement Visa.
-
It's been quite some time but I recall reading somewhere that Personal Household Good etc can be imported into Thailand with little or no tax or duties.
Is this true?
Can you point in the direction of any additional information on this subject?
Thanks

I just received my 2 year car license after showing my USA license. Went in the afternoon and was done in less than an hour. Needed the Medical Certificate and Residency Statement and had to take the color test.
All easy and painless. About an hour of my afternoon time.
Less painless is getting my motorcycle license after its being long expired.
Needed to sit through that painful 4 hour presentation, read the book and take the test.
Unfortunately I FAILED the test because, to me at least, so many of the question were so stupid, or poorly asked, or not covered in the book/reading materials. For instance: Which is it illegal to drive? A military tank or car without windshield. I said Military Tank. Wrong. Apparently it is legal to own and drive a Tank but not a car without a windshield.......I ride motorcycle, I do not always ride with my visor down. Whats the difference? Furthermore, this question was on my test twice, the exact same question.
Another: U Turn in intersection or on a bridge. Definitely a bridge......NOPE. Intersection. So its OK to U-Turn on a bridge? <deleted>?
There were a few other equally inane questions.
While I am generally please the DLT people are trying to strengthen the understanding of the rules of the road, until there is real law enforcement, Thailand will continue to have one of the worst death rates.
Perhaps the moderators could/should start a 'pinned' topic of the correct answers to some of these questions, especially those not covered in the written handouts.

Some years ago this link was posted to a weather radar site: http://www2.tmd.go.th/radar/lmpLoop.php
However, it seems now to show NO DATA.
Is this site no longer valid?
Is there another site showing real time weather data?
Thanks

I'm looking for an electronics manufacture who can produce an initial small run of 50, 12v to 7v regulators.
They are only 4 common, inexpensive components potted in a small box. I have the schematic and an example piece.
Any suggestion on who or where might undertake this project is appreciated.
Thanks

I looked through about 3 pages here but did not see anyone asking.
So who is showing the Super Bowl this year?
Thanks

I am looking for a good, experienced, no BS shop in Chiang Mai to possibly rebuild my engine. Specifically the main Crankshaft (ground and balanced) and bearings. This would be on an '82 HONDA GL400 bike.
As for general maintenance, I typically do my own as I have a deep distrust of most Thai mechanics. If they don't have a functional torque wrench in the shop, I move on.
Suggestions and personal experience statements appreciated.
Regards,

I know this, or something similar, could be built in Thailand, but would the Thai authorities License it?
Something like these: http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/pictures/262/JZR+Restoration_JZR
Would it be car? or a motorcycle? and what specifics would be required to get a proper, legal plate on it?
Thanks, your insight and knowledge is appreciated.

My young cat (5 months) has severe anemia and requires a transfusion and need a donor cat with the correct blood type.
If you are able to help I would greatly appreciate it.
I live in the Bo Sang/San Kampaeng area.
The donor cat needs to be greater than 4.5 kilo in weight, male or female.
I do not have a car (motorcycle only).
Thanks
PM me if you can help.

I am told by my dentist that Thailand has now approved a domestically manufactured titanium post and thus we should be seeing costs decline as they are more widely utilized.
Still........not cheap.

Just a reminder: I saw this Monitor Lizard near my house in Bo Sang near San Kampaeng. I am a bit isolated with lots of undeveloped land around me.

Returning from lunch today my cats were quite interested in something. Hmmm.....I saw a long tail and thought it might be a huge snake or something, Turns out on closer inspection it was one of these: http://www.pbase.com/cokesmith/image/121230867. About 1 meter and quite beautiful.
Probably make a quick meal of my cats and kittens.
Are these common up here?
Thanks

I need to properly store and catalog literally thousands of stamps currently being displayed behind two very large picture frames for shipment overseas.
Is/are there any specialty stores/hobby shops which carry stamp collecting supplies?
Names/Addresses/ GPS coordinates appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks Richard,
The Rep in BKK was of no real help. They have no re-sellers in Thailand except Yamaha or Honda branded units, the Yamaha one is 5750baht without the wiring harness. Sellers in the US have them for 139 with a complete harness as well: http://roadstercycle.com/index.htm.
Stupid money here.

Shidengen manufactures these highly acclaimed MosFET voltage Regulator/Rectifiers in Thailand. But I cannot find any re-sellers.
Yamaha uses this part on the R1 and FZ1 but charges nearly double what Shidengen sells for in the US.
Are there any know re-sellers of the Shidengen FH020AA in Thailand at a reasonable price?
I have an urgent need......
Thanks

I can't speak directly to LED type replacements for motorcycle headlights.
I can, however, speak from experience using HID Bi-Xenon replacements.
I replaced my 55 watt Halogen H4 with a 35 watt unit from this company last December: http://www.ddmtuning.com/Product-Categories/Motorcycle-HID-Kits-Lighting.
The results were absolutely stunning. I see and certainly am seen, 300% more light and more efficient than with the Halogen unit.
I absolutely love it. EXTREMELY SATISFIED.
I have only occasionally been flashed by other drivers thinking I had my HI Beams on. Other motorcyclists have stopped me and asked what they are.
The best replacement option I have found at a reasonable cost.
Regards...........

I've got a few friends coming into town very soon and they like to golf.
They'd like to rent clubs at one place or shop and use them on all the courses they play. U know..........
Is there a place that rents clubs other than at the courses for the round?
They also like the older courses with mature trees, like the Gymkana. Are there other older courses around with mature trees?
Thanks

I enrolled at San Kampaeng today with very little problem.
In and Out in 30 minuted WITH my official enrollment card.
Blood Pressure, Heart rate, X-Ray and done. No blood work.....that's only for the Burmese, she said.
She, BTW, was a pleasant lady who spoke english reasonably and had traveled Asia quite a bit.
All in all a good experience.........now, just have to hope I never need anything intensive.
Bamboo Prices
in Chiang Mai
Posted
When it comes to bamboo, I guess I just showed my ignorance.......
What I am looking for is a construction grade bamboo of approximately 3" (8cm) diameter x 104" 264cm, 30pcs.
And 3" (8cm) x 9'1 (277cm),15pc.
General pricing is OK, I just don't want to get gouged.
Thanks
