  1. McDonalds, Burger King, Subway, KFC, Pizza Hut, Dominoes et al....welcome to the Western world and obesity courtesy of the good ole U.S of A and those ex-pats who come here , (Thailand), for a change of culture but cannot do without that processed crap thay ram down their fat guts everyday. USA, saviours of the world promoters of the gastric band!

    No offence intended.

  2. dont really know what the fuss is about personally

its only Fish n chips

Crikey, it's like the Cod wars all over again, all of this is giving me a bleeding Haddock....

Sheesh, what I would do for a nice piece of lightly battered Grimsby Haddock right now, with mushy peas, scraps, salt and of course, has to be a drop of sarsons, (other brands are available), malt vinegar from Steeles chippy in Cleethorpes, bread and butter on the side and a good Northern brew to wash it all down with...bloody lush man!!!

  3. Not sure if about the same incident but I read of a woman, grandmother of course - got to go for the sympathy vote, who covered her house in England flags and draped a string of them across the street. The only flags taken down were the ones across the road as they were on public property.

But it's much more fun to read and believe what's in the gutter press.

Anyway, why should English people who've turned their back on the country and, to a large extent, miss no chance to slag it off worry about what's going down there? If you were that bothered you'd be back there leading the "troops".

For some i'm sure Phillip, it's ridiculousness like the subject of this Thread which plays a part in why some Emigrated from the Country in the first place so <deleted> are you to tell people that they shouldn't be that bothered about what goes on there ??

    Are you English ??

Do you have experience of England & many of the pathetic " Politically Correct " policies implemented on the Country by the recently ousted Goverment ??

This Thread is gonna go one way quickly mainly because of people like you who don't seem to have any interest in Football ( as you barely comment in this Forum ), yet you comment & have a dig at the Country where i'm from & generations of my Family are from & who both of my Grandad's fought World War's for, whenever you get the chance...

I personally don't give a <deleted> whether people can or can not wear England Shirts if i'm honest, i find it pathetic that they can't as much as i find pathetic a multitude of other things in the Country & this can just be added to the list but to give it the old " if you're so bothered why aren't you back there rallying the troops " is utter nonsense as you haven't the first clue of people's circumstances & situations. :)

But that's the beauty of a Public Forum i guess & opinions, which are like <deleted>, because everyone has one.. :D

Whoah man, very succinctly said. I'm English and this sort of b**lox is a main catlyst for me moving to Thailand. It now even seems to be getting worse, could you imagine this happening in any other country? Upsetting those that are not English, what about those that are English for <deleted>'s sake?

  4. I wasn't trying to scare. Just in my experience immigration seem to consider overstay as 'all bets are off- you need to get a new visa'. Mind you, my experience has been with people with b's not o's- I had missed that the OP has an 'O'- apologies to all. Anyway, I don't really see what's so scary about popping to a neighbouring country for a couple of days?

I think it's the getting back into Thailand that he's more worried about.

  5. ^^ What would worry me about that, is once you are on overstay, I think that your visa is automatically cancelled for future entries. So you might have to do a Laos/ Cambodia run anyway.

He has a Non-imm O multi so I think this will not be the case. Stop trying to scare the guy, he's worried enough.... He'll get it sorted, it happens all of the time, hence them having a desk dedicated to the rectification of wrong stamps.

  6. Agree with Lite Beer. Same thing happened to me when I came into Suvarnabhumi first time, luckily I noticed about a week later and although it was a pain I got the stamp rectified at immigration in Wattana BKK. I was in BKK at time so it cost me taxi fares and about 3 hours of my time to get it changed. I would advise definately rectifying it before you do your first border run as it is the actual stamp that is taken into consideration not the visa, I asked this question at the time. I think you will have to go to the main office in BKK, I hope for your sake this is not the case and it can be sorted in Ubon. Remember to take a photocopy of your passport with you as immigration will charge you 30BHT for the privilage. You may also have to pay them fee for overstay, my advice would be to stay sweet and calm and they 'may' let you off this. Don't queue, just go straight to the desk which is in a small room on the far right of the main office and do not go when they have their lunch, it can take forever waiting.

Needless to say I always check and double check my new stamp now when doing my border runs.

  7. Well I love Udon and so does the girlfriend, but then again I'm not into the bar and girl scene so haven't noticed, (couldn't get away with that I guess). I do notice that the ex-pat community here is older though, (I'm early forties), so this pace of life obviously suits them to the ground.

I do notice on drive-by's that there are always bars up for sale in the ex-pat stomping grounds and also in the local classifieds. I think it would take a lot of patience and something special for this type of business to sustain itself in Udon, particularly now. Nevertheless, I find Udon a joy, have heaps of Thai friends and it has all to offer. Just wish I could source somewhere for some team sports here, i.e football (soccer), Rugby, cricket etc...seems that with the age of the expats here, (no offence), they are all into golf and I left my clubs back in the UK.

  8. They, (the Reds), have so hurt the people they were supposed to be protesting for. The 'elite' will always prosper and their businesses can be built again very quickly as they have the money to do so. It is the poor that will suffer the most, but in their bloody minded battle the Reds did not consider this. Now burning down town halls and disrupting business in the Northern provinces only affects the poor working people who need their wage to just get by. Once again, shows the Thais lack of common sense and mob mentality.

Agree, I think the govt will help and also agree that they should use Thaksins seized money to help the situation. He and his followers who have participated in this destruction, (not the peaceful protestors), should hang their heads in shame but they wont, they are proud of their clandestine activities....

  9. Angry people, keep calm

Ask yourself, why are the posters angry? Because of this tyrannical 'terrorist' and his thugs holding the country to ransom, all for his personal gains, imo. We have every right to be angry, this would NEVER happen in the Western democratic world, i.e US/Europe etc. He is an egomaniac with his 'bleating' sheep-like followers who are painting Thailand in the worst possible light and doing damage that will take years to correct. The 'genuine' initial Seh daeng are even now against this and the thug-like escapades being portrayed.

As always, it is a few spoiling it for the majority. Please consider that there are 61M+ population in Thailand, these scum are are just a small minority and may they all get their just rewards in time. We have every right to be angry, we chose to live here, we are treated like sh*t by all Thai governments regardless, we have to jump through hoops to stay here, but we love the country and hate what it is becoming. Personally, I am seething, but what can I do? Voice my opinion that's all!!

  10. Well I wouldn't stay somewhere I really hated to be, which is what comes across from many posters here. I hated living in my home country and despite having a family, a beautiful home, great job, nice car, all the creature comforts of Western living this still wasn't enough to make me move away, so what in heavens name is so important to keep you somewhere you absolutely detest. You only live once, this is not a rehearsal it's the real deal so enjoy it and if you're not enjoying it, change it....

  11. If he is dead or not, regardless, he is seriously injured. This type of behaviour is abhorrent, inexcusable and animalistic as the soldier was peaceful in his actions and wanted no trouble whatsoever. He seemed prepared to step from his vehicle without restraint and I bet there is a fair chance that he is conscripted and he or his family are from the poor Isaan region of Thailand.

  12. I dare the Red Shirts to come after me. I will take on the entire mob myself, with these two guns I call biceps.

Then the world can sleep well tonight, call back the UN, it's OK we have Chunky on hand here, problem solved. Send your CV to Abhisit, he sure could use you now my friend!

  13. I for one do not need to make any plans apart from book a plane ticket, pack my bags and regrettably kiss the g/f goodbye, however I hope to God it doesn't come to this. Yes I have brought a car and have a business here, but if my life depended upon it, these would be the last things that kept me here. I know it is not the same with everyone, however I did not burn all of my bridges when moving to Thailand and still have investments back in the UK and Europe, (for what they're worth now). I am one of the expats who really does not think it will come to this though, surely the Thai population will not allow a civil war, granted they are not as progressed as the Western world regards a democratic society but neither are they as regressed a culture as some African states i.e Somhalia. This is of course only an opinion and I am more than aware it will have no bearing on any outcome whatsoever...

  14. Yes.

I like Thailand..i don't love it, I certainly prefer living here than I do back in the UK, and unless kicked out or driven out I don't think I will be going anywhere else.

If Thaksin comes back he may well kick us Brits out as we kicked his ass out of the UK...we'll just have to wait and see

Valid point - he is of that mindset that he would probably bare such a grudge. I loathe the man for his rants and raves and the way he stirs up his supporters.

Do you really think if the Reds get what they want, he would once again rule the country or would another high ranking red be appointed the post? His health (Thakin's), and his mental fitness surely cannot bode well for the Kingdom, and being as what has been said by them about the Royal family and the Thai peoples love of them, surely this is a paradox in itself?

  15. On an additional note, it also may be worth you applying for an International driving license just in case you wish to purchase or rent a car whilst here. I got mine from Green Flag, (application form also available to download from their website). It only costs £5 for 12 months and is worth having just for the police checks alone if you're driving. It was invaluable when I purchased my car here to get it refistered and insured in my name. Just a thought!
