  1. Whilst we all need to be aware of bad service, we don't want to knock down someone's hard earned company name. For that reason I've edited the OP's post a little. Please PM him if you require his full story.

They did my visa for me with no problems.

  2. I detest the drinking ban during elections. I always feel it's bloody rude of the government not to trust its own people. It's not even like it's been working out.

Please note this is a "Bah Humbug" post

  3. Oops, nearly forgot.

Have any of you seen Google books

Still in beta testing but looks cool. You'll need a gmail account. FAQ's are here, obviously you'll not find the full Harry Potter books on there but once you get into 'full book' mode there's some great stuff available.

One tip though, you'll have to do your search first, then click 'advance options' and select 'Complete books only' by hiting return, else it automatically gives you all books.

  4. My brothers lent me Iian Banks - The Alchemist which he says is very good, and he's always trying to get me into Sci Fi stuff, but it's not my thing really. Still, might give it a go. :o

Not the best Sci-fi to start yourself off with - I like sci-fi and Iian Banks and found this book a bit of a chugger, some smart sequences but mostly it left me feeling there were missed opportunities - nearly a great book.

  5. He can't expect to just show up and have a job the next day, especially with only one language skill.

He'll have to be a bit more patient and keep checking as many shops as possible every day untill he gets a break and can prove himself. If he does a decent job he might be asked back and the ball may start rolling.

He doesn't expect miracles limbos, I just thought I'd ask on his behalf. He's been doing everything you reccomend.

  6. The last thing the dive industry in Phuket needs is another monolingual "helll of a character ". There must be something wrong with him if he is not getting work. Its super busy here.

Yes, there is something wrong with him, he's just arrived in Phuket and knows no-one or nowhere on the island. Hence I was asking if anyone had any inside track information.

But thanks for your, insightful, pleasant, and non judgmental help. Be sure to send my thanks to the people that helped you get yourself set up.

  7. Heh, I used to live in Patong, practically every morning as I walked to my car the same tailor asked me if I "wanted suit?" I ran through every emotional response over the months, but nothing could stop him. One time I was on on a bike waiting for the traffic to clear and the guy leaned off the pavement and whispered his mantra in my ear.

You could run out of the sexy show with a miss placed balloon dart in your head, trip over the guy with the 'you want massagey' postcards, get be hit by 3 tuk tuks and in your dying, bleeding vision you'd have a tailor guy offering you a suit whilst a another fella places a dirty great lizard around your neck and takes a photo.

Thats part of the charm of Patong.

And foxxy, it's no bloody different in Pattaya so don't act all innocent :o

  8. Don't get me wrong, I agree that overstaying your visa is bad for your health, I definately made sure it never happened to me although I would argue against it showing arrogance and contest that not all people who overstay are stupid.

But what abouth the fine system? The one thats been in place for a while now? You know the one, it's ran by the immigration department at every point of entry around the country. We just forget about that?

I'm not trying to win an argument, I just think that the treatment these guys got was harsh, indeed, that was what I was thinking when I first read the story.

If you don't think it was harsh would you have been saying 'fair enough' when you'd overstayed your visas and got put in jail for 12 days? I know I would. Lets even say you knew 12 days in a Thai prison was the accepted punishment for an overstay, would you be so casual with the expiry date?

Anyway, Don't mind me, I'm just be contrary, carry on :o

  9. Hi mate,

As far as I'm aware it's only Penang and Singapore that are closest and do the 3 month visa. Having gone to both places to do it I preferred Singapore, twice I got a good deal with Silk Air who sometimes run a 3 day/2 nights hotel package that works out very well, you can check if they're doing a promo now at any travel agency - although being February maybe not.

Penang was ok, but Singapore had better extras.

Oh, one thing - if there is a package deal you might have to extend it by one night - I think you arive in Singapore 20 minutes after the Thai embassy closes it's doors for the day.

  10. I agree with Thaiquila.

As the boy grows up and leaves his mothers bosom he has to make certain clothing sacrifices during his travels throughout life.

Only 3 days ago I sacrificed 2 decent white T-shirts to the gods of angry laundry (poured the conditioner onto the T-shirts before I started the wash cycle)

I was in a funk for a few days, but I went out and bought more, the beauty is that here replacements wont cost you 80 pounds.

I also believe that it is through laundry sacrificing that we start to dress like our dads the older we get. As we start to realise that 80 pounds on a shirt is a lot of beer.

I feel your pain Hutch, but rest assured in a few years we'll look back and laugh, in our 12 for a dollar white socks, nasty knock off Nike sandals and beer singh vests.

  11. I think they were harshly treated, I don't think anyone can argue with that.

If we're talking about breaking rules, what about the police breaking with the 'pay 200 baht a day' rule? It's been the rule that has been enforced day in for the last 5 years as far as I'm aware.

I know it's their country and they can do what they want and we are guests, I agree with those sentiments, however I once pointed an elderly Canadian gentleman to a visa run service as he was a day late before his return home - I would have been mortified if he'd been detained for 12 days in a Ranong cell on my reccomendation.

  12. Your free speedos have been mailed to you, check your inbox. :o

Seriously, there are many mods on TV, but only 2 dedicated gay forum mods. Granted there are also mods that are supposed to float around checking all the sub forums, but a lot of us are a little intimidated to do any modding in here as we don't want to offend sensibilities we know little about, I'm not wishing to sound condescending to you guys, it runs exactly the same for the ladies forum, the buddhist forum, helll even the IT forum.

If there's an obvious nutter posting retarded rubbish in here we'll sort it out, otherwise we'll leave it for PB or Chris. I think you should be a bit more forgiving Dumpster.

  13. Um, I think the mods do have private lives.... give it 24 hours or so.

IMO that's not good enough. Moderating on, at least 2 forums that I know of, must be time consuming. If you want to do the job, do it properly. If that was the case then the flamers would have been bannned long ago but some are still here going on and on and on and on.

It is time consuming. There isn't a manual. We do it for the free speedos. Talking of flammers going on and on and on....
