  1. Hi..my father plans on visiting my brother and i, this coming December. I'm on a non-imm based on marriage and my brother has a non-imm B w/work permit. He'd like to stay for up to half a year, but with all the new messed up visa rules i'm not sure what his options are. Any ideas?

On a different note, i'm going to do my extension this wednesday, i have almost everything done, but not sure about this 'bank letter'. What exactly is it??? and How do i ask for it?

    Thanx

the letter from the bank is to show you have 400,000baht deposited for last 3 months or 2months if first application for marriage visa

  2. Like the man said, just wander back to the beer fridge and serve yourself.

sorry this is of topic mahatin i have been looking for a good photo for my avater and pinched your attach photo, it made me laugh so much, :):D:D hope your ok with it

  3. Am I being an old cynic here but in the last few months I have been reading some, in my opinion some very stupid stupid (meant to be repeated) threads.

    Examples:

What is the cheapet way to get from Swampyboom to the city?

Which is cheaper, Tesco, Big C, or Carrefour etc?

How much sinsot should I pay?

Is there a bus from Bangkok to HuaHin?

t seems to me that those asking those questions have made a very serious mistake by leaving their own villages/towns.

Has common sense gone out the window?

how does that old saying go "when love fly's in common sense goes out the window" but after all it is a forum

  4. down L K METRO on the right side is a very good indian restaurant, took some friends first time and well pleased not expensive and very good food

You are probably talking about Curries restaurant. However, sadly, they have been shut down for 2 and a half months and also their website is offline, so I reckon they are history.

hi jingthing sorry to hear that, i was looking forward to good currie on my next trip down to pattaya

  5. hi fred i think you will not be alone i am sure there are many farang's not happy with there situation albiet for different reasons than yours. i think you need to speak with your wife and tell her how you feel and what is bothering you. ps 5 years is to long get that sorted out. my pet hate with my wife (1 of many) is when we go to her parents home and i can sit there for 2 hours without someone asking me a single question. no i dont speak thai well enough for conversation but my wife can speak good english. best of luck fred it can be a lonely place at times :)

  6. Who knows?

But one thing is for sure, this post is BS.

Try getting 30,000 Baht in notes into an already

    very full wallet
    .

there never was another 30,000baht in the wallet, cant you see it was a scam

this is thai's at work!!! scamming 2 elderly tourists,, no one is out of bounds. see the boys in brown involved again. only because there embassy got involved were they spared

  7. The 'gone native' guy sitting at a cheap crappy noodle stall happily looking smugly up at other farang as they file past

Miserable, cynical female farangs giving 'that' look as you walk past with your Thai partner

Losers trying to pass themselves as English teachers (you know who you are)

The <deleted> shouting in awful bargirl Thai while I'm trying to play a game of pool

The same guy saying "dalling" and "I go with you" jokingly at regular Thai girls

The farang thug (increasingly getting common this) behaving in an aggressive friendly or friendly aggressive way towards other drinkers

The farang on the small nonaircon green bus...get a f**king life will you

The disillusioned sorry-arsed red leather faced sex tourist with no ticket home propping up a bar on Soi Cowboy or anywhere in Pattaya

The old queers who have retired in Pattaya trying to live a 'normal' life in and around Pattaya, who have nothing to do but cruise Sunni Plaza

Ditto sad straight losers above who strut around with their dog-faced ex-bargirls in tow

Anyone trying to live a 'normal' life in Pattaya

Expats who still believe that Pattaya is home to Thai culture, because they haven't been anywhere else but Isarn

The group of drunk good ol' boy tourists on the train trading obscene gogobar stories with each other as if nobody in hearing range could possibly understand what they're talking about (myself included). I'm sure a number of the Thais must also understand and be offended.

Koh Samui is the new Torremilinos by the look of things recently

you sound like a bundle of laughs for a night out so what do you like pat

  8. [www.[/]

Here's Howie again laying down the law, his own law that is and claiming to be the Police when he's just a voluntary dogsbody

<deleted>, where did HM claim to be the Police in the U Tube clip, and in the clip near the end Harrison who was filming said and quoted

"But you do need permission to tell you the truth"

Spare time at the moment so I'll type the full U Tubes film conversation....

Miller..... Why are you filming like that?.

Harrison..Sorry, why are you asking me?.

Miller......If your going to film like that then we ask you, if you ask to film then thats fine.

    Harrison..Film like what?.

Miller......If your filming covertly then I wanna no why.

    Harrison..Covertly?.

Miller......Is there any reason for it?.

    Harrison..No one can film here.

Miller.......You can film no problem at all, but if you film us you must ask us beforehand.

Harrison.. But you do need permission to tell you the truth.

Miller...... I'm sorry and who are you?.

    Harrison...I 'm tourist Police.

    Miller........Your not in uniform.

Harrison....No I'm not in uniform sir.

So there you have it, where did HM say he was the police ?, the only person who mentioned the police was Harrison who was filming.

Moral to the tale, engage brain before typing finger..

    :)

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

  9. There is no need for piles under a pool.

Except if you were building the pool on the side of a hill, or if you were building a

water-tower in the middle of the pool. :D

The pressures involved can be explained like this:

The total pressure on the floor for say 100,000 Litres would be 100 Tonnes!

    Wow that sounds a lot!

But when you divide that figure by the pool floor area alone (not counting the sides)

    say, 12 x 5 Metres = 60 square metres = 600,000 square cm = 0.1666 Kg per square cm

i.e. not very much pressure at all ..

So the floor of a swimming pool does not need any extra support underneath.

I know these figures are simplistic but it gives you a rough perspective of what

    forces are involved.

Most concrete pools are highly over-engineered.

They are designed to maintain their shape under all circumstances

i.e. any surrounding earth movement or water-table variations

(where the use of a hydrostatic valve is very important).

Concrete needs a lot of steel reinforcement just to hold it's own shape without cracking

    - especially when the pool is empty!

When the pool is full, the water simply balances the forces of the surrounding

earth pushing against the concrete. So the forces are balanced and minimal,

as long as the soil is stable.

Just think of the fibreglass alternative!

Fibreglass works well as a material for pool construction.

And yet it's only 1 cm thick on the walls and bottom!

Albeit they usually have some external "ribs" to reinforce the sides and bottom for transport.

What is notable is the upper reinforced ring that ensures the pool retains its shape.

The same design rules apply for the concrete - the upper ring has to be extra strong

to prevent the sides from being pushed inward by the surrounding soil when the pool is empty

    or partially filled.

i stand corrected :) good explanation xerostar

  10. Cheap lesson. He learnt his "lady" is not to be trusted and it only cost him 200 Baht :D

He also learnt she didn't feel comfortable asking for measly 200 baht for her phone!!!!...... :)

sorry i should have said ( lady from the bar)

  11. There are no piles in the ground under the concrete, just sand. as i understand it, the first layer of concrete is just a bed. a friend of mine from the homeland says this is ok, because there will be another layer of concrete over this. but he could be wrong of course, let me hear it if you think so and why.

    chr

hi chrgrims when i had my pool built by home and pools pattaya 4years ago they put 5 piles in the ground to take the load of the slab and water in the pool these piles were about 1metre by 1metre and filled with concrete then the slab was layed on top, never had a problem with the pool, there is a lot of presure goes on the slab

  12. a friend called me from pattaya to ask me if the girls could take credit from his phone. his "lady" was messing around with his phone for sometime which was ok but after she was gone he checked the phone and seen these numbers *112* and 200baht missing from his credit beware this is the BALANCE TRANSFER SERVICE and as we all know the girls never miss a trick. :)

  13. My wife telephoned the Immigration Officer at Kap Cheong this morning, 8th September, to confirm the situation with regards to visa extensions and 90-day reports.

Basically, they are closing the Kap Cheong Immigration Centre and the staff are moving to Korat with effect from 1 October 2009. All visa extensions and 90-day reports are to be done through the Korat Immigration Centre after the end of this month. Initially, 90-day reports are to be done in person. However, the Immigration Officer we spoke to did say that they recognised the long distance from Surin to Korat and that they would hope to offer 90-day reporting by post before too long.

As an explanation for the move, it is all to do with numbers of 'farangs' using the immigration services. Apparently, there are only 150 expats living within the Surin and Buriram provinces doing visa extensions and 90-day reports whereas there are over 400 expats living in the province of Korat.

This information is from the horse's mouth, so to speak, and was provided from an Immigration Officer at Kap Cheong. So there you have it - Immigration Services will be provided through the Korat Immigration Centre WEF 1st October 2009. :D:D:D

there must be a lot of expat's without visa's then :)
