  1. I was in Shenzhen, China and met several scammers like this. This young guy/girl told me they were stranded in Shenzhen and didn't have the money to eat or go home. I was suspicious and opened up the guy's bag and what do you know he had food in there. :) I took some pictures of the two scamming <deleted> and told them to buzz off. Maybe I'll post their pics. :D

The problem here was that they were scamming in the same area as Harris Black (aka:runner) and he hates competition. The only time Harris lies is when he speaks or types. I'd like to know how he opened up the guys bag without getting the shit kicked out of him. If he tried to look into your bag, what would you have done to the little squirt?

  2. If you live in Thailand your main source of savings will be housing(studio apartments are very cheap here), eating out, and women.

I live pretty well here, but I have to content myself with staying in a luxury studio apartment. I'm able to eat out everyday here. I could never afford do that at home.

  4. BTW, what is 'pay for play' or P4P as described earlier. Been here a long time but you guys have lost me on that (or are we not allowed to discuss that?)

some guys just have 'issues' regarding the whole financial/love thing. it's beyond me. what confuses me is where do they get to play for free? after all, they are implying that in some cases they need to pay for it while in other cases no. I don't think it's possible to make love for free. unless you cheat a woman out of financial support.

  5. I don't know why. Maybe it's just one of those things. People tend to group with other people like themselves. For example, the arabs have their little area on Walking Street. I've never seen any arabs venture to Central/North Pattaya and mix with falang.

  6. Some simple rules:

Rent, don't buy property - not ever, not even if ALL your australian friends are raving about their houses.

Hi Harmonica, over the longer term I am considering a house purchase in Thailand, may I ask, what is the reasoning for you not buying property in Thailand.

    Regards

    Arran.

I would never buy here. marriage + buy house = big no no. also, the prices of some of these condos seem a little on the high side. I'm not paying 2 million for a small studio. :o I can get much cheaper in the US!

  7. I'm 28 and live in Pattaya. There are not very many young men here, let alone ones who live here year around. So, it will be lonely from that standpoint, there are not many from your agegroup here. I don't know why, maybe young guys just don't travel/have money to come here. But I did it, and live off the money I make from my website. So, I don't know what the excuse is. :o

  8. Thanks....Any city names?

    WW.

On the coast itself in the west, the places I have stayed-in are Anyer, Carita and Labuan. And just in-land a bit are the small-ish towns of Cilegon and Pandeglang. But there are loads of villages, either on the beach or inland a mile or two. We would spend the week-ends on bikes (MTB and road) in this area and its a lovely part of the world. but its pretty quiet, more so even that rural Isan.

There are restrictions on owning land in Indonesia, I think I will rent when I end up there.

But generally speaking, western currencies go a bit further in Java than Bali / Thailand / Malaysia. I guess when I'm in my 60's / 70's I'll be happy to sit on the verandah, watching the sun go down and keeping an eye out for the family. The fishing from the beaches is pretty good there from all reports. The capital Jakarta is about 1.5 hrs away by car, on a usually quiet toll road, and its a great place to live the high-life for a few days.

    londo

but two things you will have to get used to in Indonesia is the pollution and the terrible food. so I still think Thailand has an edge over Indonesia as a place for foreigners to live.

  9. came accross a personal ad on line which i found amusing from a BKK freelancer at the end of the ad was "no arabs no thais and no teachers"

glad i am not half arab/thai teacher as i have no chance of a shag (jk, married, newborn... oh, that does mean NO chance)

    Ernest
