  1. What gets me is the utter incredulity of the lies that are being spouted to try to justify not bringing the RedBull kid to court to face justice. It is one unbelievable lie after another and now we have forensic experts pronouncing that a road death is accidental. You cannot examine a body and come up with that conclusion. People who carry out autopsies are not police. The squirming caused by trying to get Boss off is contemtible and utterly disgusting. And yet we are supposed to respect the place. Jeez

  2. No one said anything If you are now allowed to own property for 100 years then once you want to sell it it goes to 0 years again for the new foreight buyer.

    Not a bad loophole.

So said that ther is no real way of owning property here in Thailand. And what is scary is lets say you are married to Thai and you are 65 and have been with your Thai wife for 30 years in the same house here in Thailand because it was in her name.

Then she dies You now have ony 1 years to vacate the house because you have no rights. This is so draconian so imature its laughable. Thailand must make progress in real estate for foreign ownership. They are afraid that if foreigners are allowed to own property that it will push out some Thais. This is not true

If you restrict foreigners to owning property then must live in then you stop speculation

So THAILAND what are you affraid of

The Thai Chinese are afraid of the competition for it is they who have colonised by stealth and now want to keep the spoils in true greedy style. That is the reason for the laws and the nationalism stuffed down everyones throat from the age of zero - brainwashing to keep the foreigners at bay in the fear that the indigenous Thai might actually see the benefits and kick the Chinese mob out.

  3. More obnoxious and disrespectful foreigners = more obnoxious and disrespectful Thais. WE did the damage and WE are paying for it. And the government wants more foreigners coming here ?

So a tiny minority of foreigners caused all the scamming lying cheating selfishness and corruption That is Thainess is what you are saying? Deranged.

I think he's suggesting the HUGE amount of visitors every year are causing damage like any other tourist destination in the world.

The opportunity for greed and scams is there because of tourism.

Not the few who live here.

That would be a bit like an excuse for an alcoholic being that the evils bars are stocked with liquor - no one forces them to lie, cheat, steal, rape and murder. They do that of their own accord supported by a Justice system that is wholly immersed in the acts as well as doing their very best not to tackle any of the issues if they happen not to be involved as well

  4. I meant a tiny minority of foreigners compared to the number of Thais not a tiny minority of foreigners. Foreigners did not make Thais who they are today but rather they did that to themselves by their greed and selfishness which is a somewhat Asian trait that Thailand has honed to perfection. Westerners have lost a lot of what was honour too and is changing greatly and partly through immigration which is far more far reaching than a few hundred thousand foreigners bugrudingly allowed to live here

  5. I live in Patong. If Patong is a "shit hole" - I suppose you could say I live in "the annals of Phuket." biggrin.png
It's a shithole. Overdeveloped, stinky drains (if they are unblocked), touts on every corner, beach is rubbish.

It's the Pattaya beach of Phuket.

I think you are exaggerating quite a bit HansGrubs, I agree Bangla and the closest surrounding and parts of Nanai are a shitholes, but not all of Patong, I wouldn't mind living in Patong if the mentioned areas wouldn't affect the rest so much, but that's more of a noise pollution than anything.

Beach is Ok on the north end, tell me where the sewers don't smell like shit here in Thailand, even unblocked, touts exists almost everywhere, bloody hell, they bug the crap out of me even in small towns in Isarn. laugh.png Personally, I prefer living outside the tourist areas for one reason, there are no tourists. xofftopic.gif.pagespeed.ic.ifZtFTWxj3ObH

No, it is a shit hole with the worst of Thai society in charge of the scams and the most corrupt police & lawyers in the land.

Sounds to me like you're talking about Asia in general?

Yes I guess Asia in General but Phuket in particular.

  6. Interesting thing in that vid is the moto boys (and one or two others) not intervening to help the lass who is 4 on one (bar the Westerner) but hovering around in case the Westerner gets fully involved so they can stick the boot in....they really are a gutless nation of people at times....

    At times?

  7. I have no sympathy for heroin users or people who run drugs factories where the penalty is known. However living in Thailand where frame ups are rife and corruption unbridled it does bother me that some innocent will end up dead and even one innocent life is too many. For that reason the punishment has serious consequences, the most serious for those now dead.

I know this was Indonesia but there are similarities with here.

  8. Well I think that he died from hanging is probably quite likely. Not all people who die from hanging commit suicide though.

There should be more to an investigation than to see his hands are tied behind his back, his arms bound to his sides and he is suspended from the ceiling with a note close by and simply determine it was s suicide especially given what recently occurred on that very island.

A more thorough investigation would be useful given the circumstances.

  9. Corruption is ingrained and expected here and everyone in power does it pretty much. The difference between Thailand and some other countries is that corruption is never seen to really be punished. Therefore Thais learn that it is s good thing to do and no one gets hurt. They think so one dimensionally that the effects of their corruption are never considered - it is Thai culture and has been left untouched by the governments of the day for the hast 80 years so no surprise really

  10. Now I am a bit worried... When I arrived in October after the 25+ hour flight, I didn't notice my departure card was not put in my passport. Before, in the past, they would staple it to the page where they stamp you into the Kingdom. I'm a pack-rat for paper and sure it wasn't given back... I have my ticket stubs, hotel receipt, etc... but no departure card... No staple or holes on the page where they stamped me into the Kingdom...

I am going to Immigration in a couple days, could/would this pose a serious problem? Any advice because I guess they are number coded...

I had mine stolen and yet it will cause a problem. Go to immigration before you need to and ask them to issue another as it was lost. I had no trouble in Cheangwattana but not sure if provincial immigration can do it or not

  11. Lots of judging on here of the mom. Do you have a two year old? Haven't you ever been driven crazy by them? The mom is trying to scare her son into being good without hitting him. Hell, even my wife does the "scary dookay (lizard) routine" with our child, not waving one at her of course, but just saying a dookay will get her if she's bad. It's harmless. I know a Thai woman studying for her PhD in linguistics and she recounts funny stories of her mom doing this to her when she was a child. "Eat your rice or the dookay will get you." She's grown up to be normal. It's just what they do, especially in the countryside.

So while all of you armchair psychologists are pounding away at the keyboard about how horrible this mother is and how she doesn't deserve children, and oh, that poor child....just think about what you are saying. Get angry at real violence like the man who while drunk beat and killed his 8 year old son who didn't do his homework. Get angry at the story in India of a mom who tossed her newborns in a bin. Get angry at the news of a child forced to live behind a secret wall in his own house. Get angry at REAL abuse, not this crap.

That woman does not need to apologize to us, and I'm glad she didn't.

Yes well most of us will be a whole lot angrier and upset about the people who do far worse. That first preclude one being disgusted by a mother terrorizing her child in an effort to make him eat his food. Perhaps she is a really lousy cook!

  12. Bitch mom, but sadly it's the typical Asian way of disciplining; through fear, intimidation & corporal punishment.

same in the Uk when I was a kid.only difference we didnt film eveything we did.

if we did Id bet most of the posters parents did similar things. All schools where I was brought up did a lot worse. Bloody hypocriticak thai hatrrs

What a moronic point. Firstly we are 40 years on from when you were a kid and times change - they used to burn witches, doesn't mean it is acceptable in this day and age.

Secondly being bullied at school by scumbags who you know are scumbags and expect to get some aggro is wholly and utterly different from being tormented by someone you trust and most especially your mother. If you don't know the difference then I feel sorry for you.

  13. Do the Thais have a media department that finds items of news vaguely related to some bull they want to peddle and then just use the headline to push their point?

No terrorists huh! What are they on about? Not only that but they exhibit their utter stupidity by missing the facts or the point of the news item they hijack. Maybe time for some new staff in that particular department.

  14. In an earlier post I Read that the FCO in the UK is being obtuse with regards to furnishing the Defence team with evidence that maybe at their disposal.

If this is indeed the case it is a national disgrace. Having had dealings with the FCO, I have little respect for them but it is sickening to think they will not lift a finger to help serve the cause of justice. This is not the UK I grew up in - what happened to honour in the world?
