I would also be looking to attend a recognised safety course on how to hold and store the arm etc.
-
I am a reasonably affluent man married to a Thai, whos extended Thai family say i need to think about purchasing a fire arm for protection, due to the fact i have several new motor bikes and a top of the range Hilux and which hasnt gone unoticed ( what does ) when travelling around the Pattaya and Sakeo areas. My home is on a secure comunal estate so it would be for traveling around with, especially in the car. Ive been told it is really easy to purchase said item, any advice as i feel this is not really my cup of tea..
Regardless of any advice offered from locals in the forum ( I am not local so can not comment on the aspect of this within Thailand or from a 'thai' aspect) I would strongly advise you to stay well away from firearms.
You appear to have little or no background in such items and as such, getting any sort of firearm is likely to get you into far more trouble than not getting one would.
Wide berth recommended on getting a firearm.
Your right i have never had need for one,
Thanks for your comment much appreciated.

Does it not concern you that your child will be born of thai nationality and will therefore have difficulty in later life traveling the world needing visas to so much as cough! My wife and i are flying back to England so the child will be born English even tho the child will have a dual passport this is going to be benificial later in life.

Hmmmmmmmmmm Not really seeing this as a problem no thanks or yes please ought to do the trick!!
-
Hmmmm a Thai family member taking the piss didnt see that one coming!!

Becarefull!!!!!
The holograms are very poor so if you give one to the thai police and he checks it, ( most dont ) you will be causing yourself a costly bit of aggro. I have a 12 month international permit which costs 7 quid and used it regularly without any problems

Was there 7 weeks ago and all the lounges have now put password blocks on them. The cafes will give you a password for theres but you will need to buy some food or drink which is not to bad i guess.

-

Songkram gets worse every year with farangs taking all the fun out of it. Pattay is pure chaos for one whole week so after 3 days of getting soaked even if your sat in a restaraunt in smart clothes drunken idiots still douse you it really is tiresome. Nearly everyone i know who lives there leaves town as it really is too much to bear. The pump action guns are being confiscated by the police this year due to people being knocked off mopeds due to the brute force of the things, trust me when you get one in the face it knocks you for six!! It should be limmited to a max of two days, it is elsewhere

Import Taxes are sky high thats why used cars keep there rediculous prices

Somethings never change more fresh loonies in pattaya everyweek!!!

In my bones I feel the 2 yr old may well be hers rather than lazy ole mum
Your the next punter on the magic rounabout
If you want to know how much you each feel visi an ATM and be ready for dishappointment
THe child will be hers no doubt ive seen it at close hand, my wifes ''cousins'' Have new motor bikes new clothes parents not working and all have several ferang boyfriends to keep them in luxury children are just a thing that goes with the territory
-
Hmmm Been there done that.
As a ferang in Thailand the family will treat you as second to any family member an intrude on any thing and everything but only if you let them. I lasted about three months after i was married untill i hit the roof infront of a large group of family members who were basically taking the piss! No need for explietives and my broken thai was enought to tell them i was having no more. The family is more tham acomodating with my european way of life infact they are learning very fast that not all thai ways are the right way. You must hold youre own in youre home and surroundings any weakness will be exploited by anyone you let, not just the family.
Stand up and be a man you will be pleasantly suprised how things will change.
Oh Thais scream at everything its how they basically comunicate just tell them not to do it when youre around as its seen as being pathetic all over the world that generaly does the trick.

It will end up a Karaoke session all Thai gatherings do!

Which ever way you go and ive done them all its an awfull ndrag especially when you get stuck behind the 1940s wagons and believe me you will so prepare ya self accordingly

Hmmm How many times have i heard this story. Crappy salaries of 6000 bht are not much less than bar girls and small gogo bar salaries. The family will not give a monkey about there daughters well fare as long as the cash rolls in to pay for them to drink and sleep all day.
well, I expect there will be plenty of flippant, facetious, sanctimonious replies to this but here we go.I know a young lady who is NOT a bar girl. She is from a slum in Lad Prao, her stepfather is a drunk, her mother has a two year old baby as well as this daughter who is 21. Her name is "J".
J's mother wants her to go work in a go go bar to support the family. The mother does not work and has J wrapped around her little finger. The stepfather is violent and abusive.
The go go bar is attractive for J because....
1. She thinks she can help her mother/baby sister.
2. She can live by herself away from the abusive (physically, he has threatened sexually before too) stepfather.
3. She is from a slum and likes the idea of having money and the power and perceived worth that that brings.
4. She thinks she can find a farang "boyfriend" at the bars (she hates Thai guys)
J is uneducated and left school at 14. It is true she will make money and help her family. However, she has no other idea of what to do and seems to me to be unduly controlled by her mother and, understandably, greedy for money beyong the poverty she has grown up with.
Please help me.....does she have any options bearing in mind she needs to get away from the stepfather and help her (blo#dy selfish) mother and she has no education so will only be able to get a crappy 6000 bhat a month job. She speaks good English, is pretty but other than that has no other "qualifications".
Thanks for any caring and positive ideas. I am not expecting much. I want to talk her out of the go go bar but.......I cannot find anything better.
what a sad world we still be live in.
How little we have progressed.
My heart goes out to this young lady and her situation, which sadly is all too common in the land of smiles.
I wish I had an instant answer, she is lucky to have found someone like you who seems to geninely care for her.
There are several charity's set up to help educate the poor, but they must attend the classes and will not pay whilst doing the study.
Network with these sorts and see what comes up.
Persuade her that money and a farang boyfriend are not the lasting key to happiness, although I do see how they would fall for this
good luck and thanks for being a caring person
