  1. Looking at the news this morning it seems Mr T & some of the reds want to back off from this weekend's protests in repsect for HM & birthday celebrations. I suspect they would not have had a good turnout for exactly that reason. The assets court case will not conclude until sometime next month so do not expect a decision until the new year which leaves the reds plenty of time to regroup although I sense they have lost a lot of ground & support with the recent actions in Cambodia etc. The word traitor is cropping up more & more.

Like many my feeling is if the ill gotten gains are not returned to Mr T then I really hope they will be put to good use for the majority of the people & provide good benefits for the country as a whole.

  2. That's the thing with different people comparing pizza, Valentine, it's a qualitative results process. It's not an empirical science.

My own view is that the chain franchises like Piss-a Co make food that is edible only when drunk, or when suffering from a hangover. It's not somewhere i'd make a sober choice about eating at.

If you're in Phuket town, there are plenty of better choices. In fact, if you're just about anywhere on the island there are better choices................

As they say "different strokes for different folks" although I tend to agree with you. Parking in Phuket Town is often not easy especially around Salvatores but my sojourns into the town are generally for taking kids to school. I am a frequent visitor to the shopping centres so when hungry it is a choice of Thai fast food (which I often have at Big C) or one of the chain restaurants. I was curious about the chessy max & so tried it. I also like their onion rings. I plan to make an effort to try Salvatores but not sure if he is open for lunch which would be my preferred time to go there.

Have you tried pizza at the Italian in RPM? I did last year & it was OK (certainly better than Pizza Co) but did not rate compared with M & Ms which is my yardstick at present.

  3. Forget about trolling larb burgers & back to pizzas. Brand me as a heretic if you must but a couple of days ago I tried a mediterranean seafood cheesy max pizza at the Pizza Company & found it to be OK. I have not tried Salvatores for many years so M & Ms remains my number one choice. Although I thought the chessy max was OK it is still a big step down from M & Ms.

  4. Wishfull thinking and what the propaganda would have you believe. This is not only about Thaksin. Its about the people that he used to rise to power. They are still there and the issues that he could play on to gain populist support is still there.

Not wishdul thinking at all but based on conversations with people from the NE. Mr T's red shirts are so fearful "populist support" will swing away from them which is why they vigorously oppose any visits by government reps.

  5. Over time the "red" faction of the millitary will get more numbers. Simply because the military statistically will recruit more people from the red powerbase. The powerbase that Thaksin built his rise on is still growing faster, just look at the demographics of thailand. Of course there is a chance that officers only get recruited from certain circles of society, but that is also a dual edged sword. Talent dont follow social status.

I dont see how the elite junta can keep to their absolute power without moving toward a less democratic and more oppressive society. Its a power change you see in any country with a rapid growing population.

This so called powerbase is rapidly eroding after Mr T's Cambodian debacle. Those who were ready to forgive his indiscretions in the past have taken to calling him a traitor.

  6. Many years ago when I lived & played in Patong Pizzeria Hut was the place for me where I would go & create my own pizza. The last time I saw the owner around town he said he had opened up a seafood place in Kalim although I believe he still owns Pizzeria Hut(s).

I agree with markg about Patak Villa, pizzas are OK but the thin & crispy base is not really to my liking so I am happy to go the extra distance to M & Ms.

  7. I too arrived back from BKK on Tuesday night. The flight was late as nearly all the passengers in a full 747 had to sit on the plane for 30 to 40 minutes, before takeoff, waiting on 5 people to board. Parking time was 36 1/2 hours & paid 400 Baht. I wonder how much it would have been had the flight arrived on time & it would have been just under 36 hours. Either way it is still far more convenient for me to use my own vehicle on a short trip away.

AOT in BKK wanted to charge 1,100 Baht for limo service to Wireless Rd. As I only had a small backpack I took the airport bus for 150 Baht which dropped me off at the top of Wireless & I walked the remaining short distance to the NZ Embassy. The hotel I stayed at on Sukhumvit Soi 19 wanted 2,000 for a limo to the airport. I took a taxi.

  8. I flew from Bangkok last night on a full 747. A couple of other airline filght numbers (ANA & OZ)were also listed on the same flight. There were quite a few Indians although when I got to Phuket I saw a sign for an Indian wedding group. There also quite afew Indians on my flight to Bangkok on Tuesday. This begs the question - why do many Indian guys have this perculiar shake of the head when talking?

  9. The major general has supposedly admitted committing an unlawful act. Surely charges should be laid against him possibly including treason. If this guy is still tolerated in the army ut begs the question of who's side the army is really on.

I notice one report as saying Mr T offered to help with the "spy" case which could be why it was engineered in the first place so he could claim credit. The government refused his offer.

This whole sad & sorry charade is reminscent of the intrigues in medieval courts as much of the country still seems rooted in a feudal type system no matter how much it is glossed over.

Resorting to violence such as the recent "grenade" attack is despicable & highlights the unwillingness by all participants not to come up with a creative solution to truly benefit the Thai people.

  10. Would you advise how to register car ex-BKK? Could BKK dealers arrange it by themselves for Phuket residents?

It should be easy enough to change the registration to Phuket by yourself. It has to be inspected at the registration office & relevant forms filled ou Not sure how much but surely not too expensive.

To hackerthai may I suggest Sure Motors for a 2nd hand car. With cash you should be able to bargain down on the asking price. For your budget I imagine it will be a few years old.

  11. Hi

Your right about Toyota in Phuket, i bought mine from BKK as well saved me a lot of money and got a lot thrown in as well. I saved around 75.000 going to BKK and its a nice drive back in a new car.

Do you mind saying which model you bought & the price it would have cost in Phuket as it sounds like an interesting proposition to buy in Bangkok. I always throught it was slightly cheaper in BKK but not enough to warrant the cost of going there & bringing it back. Service is not an issue as with the main dealers you can get service anywhere in Thailand.

  12. the will probably make him pay for the damage to the truck, this being patong

What a completely ludicrous & callous thing to say. The OP put it up with a genuine desire to inform as the guy could be seriously injured & considered to be missing by family or friends. Why try to turn it into a Thai bashing exercise?

  13. Toyota's new or used are the number 1 car in Thailand. All other do not count with the Thais.

Toyota is without doubt the number one in terms of sales but to say all other do not count is erroneous to say the least. I know many who much prefer to buy Honda when it comes to sedans, for pickups you can probably find an equal spread between Toyota & Isuzu. I believe Homda may have surpassed Toyota in some sedan sales

  14. The heading for this post is not true given that cabinet has not given approval yet.

Like the proposed tunnel this road should connect to a 4 lane road that runs north & south through Patong which I suppose would be the road that runs behind Jungceylon & which needs a lot more work. To work properly this road would need a lot more feeder roads than it currently has. Hwoever, given the scarcity of land in Patong & the fact most buildings are almost right on the road edge there is very little chance of any other wide avenue being built in Patong.

  15. Recently went through the motions on buying a new Honda City here in Phuket. Impeccable service & the salesman never tried to sell any extras & went out of his way to get the best finance package & insurance deal (it pays to thoroughly check out all the available options on both).

Buy Toyota or Honda as other brands are hard to resell at a fair price. Prices offered to buy our Chevrolet Optra were ridiculously low even though it is a really good car to drive.

  16. Last night I dined out at the new M & Ms in Nai Harn. Off street parking, nice decor, high ceiling, open air. They should do very well there. The difference between it & the old place is chalk & cheese.

I don't know if the Facebook pizza club can come up with a better pizza but I have yet to find one.

  17. It could be a while before it is reopened as although the frontage is finished the whole inside has been gutted. They must have sold out to Twin Palms & I believe the husband has been wanting to return home. I miss the ham & egg sandwich.

  18. The next IBAP monthly meeting will be held on Friday the 13th, 6.15pm at Phuket Brewery, opposite Tesco Lotus. Speakers from various schools have been invited to particiapte in an open discussion on the outlook for education in Phuket. If you have children who are or will be attending school then this meeting should answer some of your questions. There is also the opportunity to network & make business connections.

IBAP has taken on the task to assist the Ban Banthong school in Kathu & is asking for attendees to bring along any items such as pens, pencils, notebooks or even a monetary donation to help the kids who are from a poorer section of society. Much of the school furniture is in a state of disrepair & IBAP is planning to build new desks for the classrooms.

Attendance fee includes drinks & snacks. Guests are welcome & do not need to be accompanied by a member. Please visit http://ibap-phuket.org for information.

  19. So why don't the BIB or Highway Patrol enforce speed limits in Phuket? Answer: Every Thai in Phuket that owns a car either is or has connections to "someone influential".

Don't think that is the reason, otherwise tourists would be stopped and "fined".

It would also mean having a BiB on site to see it.

Nope....speeding just isn't a priority. License, helmets and tax discs are.

I agree. They either don't have the manpower or the will to go after speeding &/or dangerous drivers. Standing on the side of the road & flagging down motorbikes & the occasional car is a much easier way to get fines.

The Chalong Kata road is dangerous as are many others but usually the cause of accidents is the inept, callous, rude, dangerous, drivers who traverse our roads, & there are plenty of them. Also the many unsafe vehicles.

  20. Who amongst us would turn down a great paying job like this? There are many complainers but you would all run to the trough if it was available to you. If you could ever get over your hatred for Thaksin for just a few moments you would at least give him credit for being one of the best, if not the the best economic mind in the Far East.

It would be interesting to know what you base this on.
