  1. Thank you but I live in Chiang Mai, so I need at least web sites, telephone numbers etc.

This took me 5 seconds to find. This is the catholic school I mentioned earlier.

    <H2 class=h-line>Dowroong Wittaya School</H2>

Description: Private kindergarten, primary & secondary school just outside Phuket Town on Chaofa RoadAddress: 31 Chao Fah Rd.,

    A. Muang, Phuket,

    83000 Telephone: 076 212 266

  2. In september/october my son comes to Thailand to celebrate both our birthdays and to get married.

    They need a RC priest

They want to get married on the beach

They found a wedding planner who asks 1.200 euro for the ceremony, I think that is far too much.

    Can anybody advise us?

    Thanks in advance..

There is a catholic church in Phuket Town or alternatively visit Dowroong Withaya School & speak with the headmaster, it is a catholic school.

  3. i didnt say anything about concrete pool.

i said we bought a IP Liner pool.

    check here:

    http://www.jdpools.com/ip_eng/index.php

i am not a pro. but i think its somethign different.

but thanks for the info with the different concrete you can use. i will ask them and take a close look.

    tobi

They will most likely use 9mm steel with possibly a 15cm layer of concrete with the plastic liner going on top of that. Normally they install a white box at the one end of the pool which contains the pump & bag type filter (these have to be hand cleaned on a regular basis).

  4. There are 2 shows on TV featuring Bondi beach in Australia & Piha in New Zealand. During the summer weekends in NZ volunteer lifeguards patrol the popular swimming beaches & the show on TV last night saw the lifeguards (8 were on patrol that day although there were certainly others at the club) perform 50 rescues on Piha beach with no drownings. The thing that stands out from the Piha & Bondi shows is the fact people mainly get into difficulty because they ignore the warning signs. Both shows have featured drownings despite the presence of well equipped & well trained lifeguards.

Phuket did have a lifeguard system but not sure how it operated although I often saw a top of the range pick up in Phuket Town with a Phuket Lifeguard sign on the vehicle so one can only hazard a guess as to where their funds were going, it certainly was not going towards effective training & equipment.

There is a fledgling surf lifesaving association in Phuket & can see some news about it on http://phuketwan.com/tourism/phuket-surf-l...ick-up-the-bum/ With enough funding to provide proper training & equipment hopefully this will grow into a fully fledged group of lifeguards that can man the beaches, possibly a mix of paid & volunteers.

  5. This coming Friday 12th June IBAP (International Business Association of Phuket) will hold their monthly meeting in the ballroom at the Phuket Country Club in Kathu, doors open at 6.45pm. Theme is the very popular Legal Eagles with a panel of legal experts from leading law firms who will answer questions & raise discussion about living & doing business in Thailand.

When you visit a lawyer you normally get charged for his time so here is a chance to receive free legal advice.

Guests are welcome & do not need to be accompanied by a member. Some food & drink is provided as part of the entrance fee. Details can be found on the IBAP website http://ibap-phuket.org

IBAP is a non profit group run by volunteers which provides good networking opportunities both business & social. Each month the group strives to provide speaker(s) on topical subjects which are of interest to local business people & residents. The group also assists & provides funds for community projects.

  6. Years ago the garden shop just past Wat Chalong, on the left heading towards the circle, claimed they were a major distributor of grass to the smaller shops. At the time I even got some of the thick bladed grass for free which is the one to use if the are is shaded.

  7. Before it got stolen I had a Fujitsu from the shop in Central which is next to Power Buy. Very good service & the owner is the same guy who owns X-Net in Phuket Town opposite Royal Phuket City Hotel. They also sell Toshiba.

  8. thanks.

i know that there can happen many unexpected things. but i am getting a little worried.

The piles have been put in there for a purpose (who knows what but could conceiveably been for a pool), possibly because of ground water. Why bother taking out the piles, you should incorporate them into your pool structure. Cut them back to the depth of your pool but leave enough of the steel sticking out to join with the floor steel.

If they are going to pour the floor first & the walls later make sure they include water stop & ensure that waterproof concrete is used.

  9. I use TOT on Chao Fa West & pay 590 per month. I just checked the speed & got 1652 download & 259 upload. It will probably slow down later in the day but does not bother me as I am mostly connected in the mornings. There has been negligible down time in the two years I have been using it & if there is a problem you get better results by going upstairs at the TOT office on Chao Fa.

  10. [

Use the link that I inserted in my previous post, it will give you the programme schedules for any given day. Don't forget, UBC ceases to broadcast BBC Entertainment from Monday 1st June anyway.

Here is also the link for all DSTV programming: http://www.dstv.com/dstvsa/content/en/sa/listings_guide

Will have to adjust for the time difference. I just checked BBC E for Asia & for my taste this looks better than the feed to SA. However, we cannot have it all our own way & must make do with what is available as UBC/True certainly do not seem to take into account the wishes of their customers. I visited their office yesterday & they were not very happy about all the cancellations.

I too would like a demonstration of the system & what can be shown & no doubt K. Lek is getting many requests lately.

  11. Had the new system installed yesterday, and it's working very well. Picture quality of Multichoice is fractionally better than UBC, but both good. It is BBC Entertainment rather than BBC Prime in Multichoice, and the programming is slightly different (see this link: http://southafrica.bbcentertainment.com/). I also seem to have a couple more UBC channels than I did with the True Platinum package which I've discontinued. Total for installation and 1 year subscription for both Multichoice and UBC, 22,400 baht, thereafter 9,000/year subscription for both.

I am interested to know at what time the prime time shows air on BBC E considering it will be on African time e.g Waking the Dead, Spooks, Torchwood.

  12. This price seems a bit low for a self cleaning model & I recommend anyone buying a saltwater chlorinator to make sure it is self cleaning otherwise calcium deposits build up on the cells & have to cleaned off regularly with acid.

I will also repeat from my previous post that when the manufacturer states it is for a particular sized pool they are assuming the use of pool stabilizer which in my mind detracts from the naturalness of having a saltwater pool.

Yes it's self cleaning, here is the web site http://www.compupool.com.au/product/salt_w...f_cleaning.html

I could have choose the INTELLICHLOR SALT CHLORINATOR cell and power centre that was going for 30,000 baht

I checked the website this morning but could not find anything which shows how many grams per hour of 100% chlorine it produces. For an 80,000 litre pool you will need to produce 320 grams per day, to allow for depletion by UVs, if not using pool stabiliser.

  13. If any of you have followed the story of the Canadian in Pattaya allegedly murdered by his Thai wife for the insurance money or she allegedly payed someone to do it. I guess if guilty she is as much as a murderer as the one who actually committed the deed. Anyway, reading the threads on this topic many seem to agree that the only way to get any semblance of justice when the police lose interest, or find it in their best interests to have the whole thing forgotten, the only way is to continue to exert pressure from all areas e.g. keep it in the news, foreign governments pressure on Thai authorities, etc.

In defence of the police, if this can be considered a defence, is that they are woefully understaffed & lacking resources for the population of Phuket which I reckon is close to one million compared to the official figures of about 350,000 (I think there are about twice that number of vehicles registered here). All funds whether it be for police or infrastructure must come from Bangkok & disbursements are based upon the offical population figures, never mind how much tax revenue is generated from Phuket.

  14. I am trying to find the Government Savings Bank and AEON bank in Chalong area?

Need to use their teller machine as I heard they are the last Thai banks to not charge 150 baht fee.

Anyone know where they are in the south of Phuket or on Phuket at all?

    Thank you in advance

I believe the closest you will find one of their machines is in Central Festival or Big C.

  15. I went to The Lighthouse meeting the other night where everyone I spoke with were reporting downturn in business. More to do with external factors rather than "summer" although all were enjoying the camaraderie along with a few beverages & chipping in to help support some kids at school.

I reported earlier I had to cancel the concrete pour, due to continuous overnight rain, but was too late to do so. However, as the concrete trucks pulled up the rain eased off & then stayed away all day which made this chappy rather happy considering the mostly gloomy economic days.

  16. It is quite astonishing to learn that people have to be taught how to wash their hands properly although there must be many public toilets that do not have soap which does not help.

I thought I read somewhere that there are 30,000 confirmed cases of chikungunya in the south so I assume we can expect to see quite a rise in the number of cases here.

I have not seen any written reports but heard on BBC radio news that Cambodia has managed to allow (through incorrect treatments or self treatments) the rise of a malaria strain which is resistant to the latest malaria medications. The previous drug resistant malaria strain also came from this part of the world. International health authorities, rightly so, were urging strict controls to prevent this from spreading but I seriously doubt this will work considering the greedy & exploitive use of illegal labour in this country.

  17. A Compupool CPSC Chlorinator (Oz Brand) comes in at about 46,000 baht for a 60,000 litre model supplied in Phuket. Very easy to retrofit into a normal pool as previous poster says, an hour or two max.

Just got the same make, model CPS 24 , 80,000 litres 29,000 baht, from a small pool shop just past Naklua near the flyover, tried the shops in Pattaya and found their prices way over the top.

My last chlorinator got zapped by lightning hitting the ground, then it traveled up the grounding rod, 2nd time, this one will not be hard wired, just plugged in.

  18. HI

No company setup, no 30 years lease, what DO you guys recommend to do when people buy a house

Company, co ltd, 1 mill baht, 6 equal thai shareholders pluss your shares. Lease from company, paying annual rent to company, giving company revenue, small though :) . A good lease gives you all the rights you need. Like if you sell 3 years from now, the new owner starts with a new lease, not taking over 27 years leftovers. Could write 5 pages about good lease, shortform here.

A Co., Ltd. only needs two Thai shareholders although I suppose it is OK to have as many as you like. A new owner starting with a new lease but it seems to me you need to have agreement with the land owner on how much the new lease is going to cost so you can factor it in the selling price.

  19. We have tried a number of different air cons as we built rental units over the past 10+ years. Have to say that the Sharps we installed 10+ years ago were very good, but expensive. Then we tried Amena units, ugggg horrible, no end of trouble. Then Fujitsu, not much better. Our latest building we installed Dakin, and 2+ years later have had almost nothing to complain about.

I would say that the installation & maintenance company has a big part to play in future serviceability of air cons. In my opinion the best installation company is Suawantanee in Phuket Twon.

I too have used this same company when I bought the Sharps & found them to be very reliable although later on Kee Hin did a much better job at cleaning the unit after I had been using Suwantawee.

As an aside which has nothing to do with air con I find myself having to log in twice everytime. Any ideas why?

  20. I have purchased several air cons here in Phuket over the years & never thought much about it, except I thought Sharp was a good brand, & as I may be in the market for a new one I went in search of pricing & recommendations over the last couple of days.

Wishing to be economical, I am not only looking at price but the enregy label which shows how much it will cost to run for one year. One salseman said this is the cost for running 24 hours a day which I find hard to believe & another said it was based on 8 hours at 25deg C. Does anyone know the true story on this?

Would also appreciate comments or recommendations on different brands, quality, etc for a split type unit. I now see some have plastic casing for the compressor which could be OK as I have seen the metal ones get rusty after a while but the salesman said the plastic ones are not UV protected.

I was told inverter units are good if running 12 or more hours per day as they are much more energy efficient & the energy label confirms this but they are much more expensive. Apparently an inverter fridge gets similar energy saving results which I could also be in the market for.
