  2. Can anyone confirm whether the Spurs and Liverpool cup ties being played this sunday 27th are being shown on true

Oldham's 4th round FA Cup tie will be shown on Channel 7. Kick off is at 11:00pm

  3. I'm a lifelong football fan who runs an independent website for my local team, Chonburi FC. I am looking for someone who has attended a Thai League match and didn't enjoy it and who is willing to be interviewed about their experiences for my site.

The questions are fairly straightforward and would only take a few minutes to answer, via e mail.

If you're interested, please can you send me a PM and I'll get back to you asap.

    Thanks.

  4. The opening round of TPL fixtures have already been announced. They are scheduled to be played over the weekend of 2nd & 3rd of March. You can see them here: http://www.clubwebsite.co.uk/chonburifc/113109/News/view/732222?archive=true

The rest of the fixtures will be revealed later this month. The TPL and FAT appear to be learning from past mistakes of releasing the dates early, only for there to be numerous changes made before the season starts - and, frequently, once the season has begun. It is also my understanding that Thailand coach Winfried Schaeffer is having some input into the 2013 fixture list, in order to assist the national team.

Previously, the Thai leagues have completely ignored FIFA sanctioned breaks but they are likely to adhere to them from now on.

    Hope that helps.

  5. The two legged final will be between Thailand and Singapore.

The first leg will be played in Singapore on Wednesday night. The return leg in Bangkok is scheduled for 7:00pm on Saturday. Both games will be televised on ESPN/Star. Thai TV will certainly show the home game but I haven't heard anything about their plans to broadcast the away fixture.

All tickets for the match in Singapore have been sold and the return is also expected sell out - Thailand's semi final against Malaysia at Supachalasai last Thursday attracted a full house.

  6. There's a couple of hardcore farang fans of Muang Thong United who have blogs. At least one is American, think the other may be as well? Can't remember.

Anyway, I exchanged comments with one of them after negative posts about Robbie Fowler. They weren't fond of him at all and took great offense to his tweeting during games, which if that was true was pretty poor professionalism from Fowler, it has to be said. Not sure if he was injured at that time, though, or on the bench.

The one I talked to didn't have any idea of Fowler's former life as a Liverpool legend and wondered who he was when he came to Thailand and if he was any good. Ha ha. He really only started following the sport at all by being a fan of Muang Thong United.

So there are some expats who are into the Thai league, even more than any other league as it's the only football league this guy follows!

I just checked one of those blogs. Looks like Muang Thong United are Thai Premier League champs again.

They walked it, and i think they are undefeated with 1 game to go, maybe they can take the mantle off Arsenal and be the new invincable's.

Yes, they won the league at a canter and are still undefeated with one match remaining. However, they will play BEC Tero away on Sunday and the home side need a win to secure third place. So it should be a fascinating game.

TPL runners-up Chonburi fell at the semi final stage of the AFC Cup but it was still quite an achievement for us to get that far. Although, I felt that the 8-2 aggregate scoreline was harsh and Arbil didn't really impress me.

Still, upwards and onwards. We play our penultimate league match tomorrow (Thursday) before finishing our season against already relegated Thai Port on Sunday.

  7. I've been supporting and watching Chonburi since 2002. It's been great to see the club grow so much in the last ten years. And I feel really proud to have been a part of it.

Maybe the standard in the TPL isn't as high as most of us are used to (even as a lifelong Oldham fan!) but going to the match is about much more than the football. I'd recommend it to anyone.

On the pitch the club has given me many highlights: Pro League champions in 2005; Singapore Cup runners up in 2006; TPL champions in 2007 (first provincial team to do so and the catalyst for the boom over the past couple of years); FA Cup winners in 2010 and now we're in the semi finals of the AFC Cup. Quite remarkable when you consider the first match I went to had about 50 people in attendance and the vast majority of people in Chonburi didn't even know the club existed.

Off the pitch I've made many friends who I also socialise with away from football. I wouldn't change it for the world.

  11. Sven Goran Eriksson

    by Jonathan Fairfield

It is normally the case that news from the Thai Premier League is reserved only for the back pages of Thai newspapers, hidden somewhere between a story on a Muay Thai championship fight and the latest goings on from English Premier League. However, this week saw all that change.

The appointment of Sven Goran Eriksson as technical director at BEC Tero not only made headlines in Thailand but also around the world as news of the arrival of the former England manager to the Land of smiles was featured in just about every sports news outlet going. There can’t have been many previous occasions when news from the Thai Premier League has gained such a global audience.

In England especially, news of Sven’s inaugural foray into Asian football was, it’s fair to say, met with a mixed reaction. Popular football websites and podcasts such as Guardian Sport and the Football Ramble all covered the appointment, with the latter suggesting that Sven was probably eager to work in Thailand more out of his love for beautiful women, rather than the beautiful game. They may have a point!
