  1. Thank you so much ! Yes, quite cheap, but I might never drive this car again with these projectors ! hahahaha......

Is there any other solution as adding HID on the front lower part of the car (Don't know how are these small round shape lights called ) ?

Thanks you so much again !

No-one makes drop-in replacement projectors for the foglamps, and given the shape of foglamps used on the Corolla, it's not going to be easy to fabricate them in.

Perhaps you should look into getting the headlamp plastic reconditioned (it will have oxidized and lost clarity), and adding in a pair of the higher-brightness halogens?

Have a look at these guys for better halogen bulb options: www.powerbulbs.co.uk

I have seen led foglights and xenon also

I custom fitted projector foglamps with xenon's to my wife's old PJS.. Pics/info here: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/421377-pimp-my-ride/page__st__75__p__4076473#entry4076473

  2. as Toyota and BMW got engaged a few months back, I wonder if IMV2 will get BMW 3,0 diesel and ZFauto in 2014, or if this is to soon and expensive. Toyotas main reason for wanting BMW was diesel tech, BMW wanted hybridtech and inexpensive manufactoring techs from Toyota

Highly unlikley I'm afraid. The deal with BMW is for the supply of lower-capacity (1.4L - 2.0L) diesel engines for some selected EU models only. As you're aware, Toyota have fairly low market share in EU, and they don't have any competitive low capacity diesels, so it's difficult to make a business case... The BMW deal fills a gap.

BMW are great at making awesome high capacity diesels, but they're just too expensive for what Toyota needs. Toyota on the other hand, do a great job of making a low-cost higher capacity diesel, and a massive IP investment they can now build upon cheaply.

I expect we'll see the 'uprated' 1KD-FTV (i.e. the 190HP/410Nm version) used in the IMV2 Hilux for the first year or two after it's release - then we'll see Toyota's next-gen diesels in a 'major minor change' sometime around 2015-2016. Either that, or Toyota have a secret engine in dev that we'll see sometime in the next 18 months ;)

  3. I've only driven the Ranger, not the BT-50 yet, so can't comment on ride quality or handling from personal experience I'm afraid. According to most reviews, the BT-50 rides a little firmer. On interior styling, I like them both in different ways. On exterior styilng, I've liked the BT-50 since I first saw it in the flesh back in August 2011 (before that I hated what I'd seen in photos - it's not at all photogenic), but I still prefer the Ranger.

    Thanks for your impressions

Sorry I can't be more detailed, but don't want to sit here reciting words of others.. Will surely make some more candid comparisons between the two once I've had a chance to drive both back-to-back.

  4. My factory lights are really good, even with my own biological failing lamps. wai.gif

That's what I always thought too, but after owning 3 cars with factory projectors/xenon's, I'm hooked.

In fact, one of the reasons I haven't gone and made a booking for the new Ranger is because no models are available with projectors (hopefully a minor change will rectify that).

But before anyone suggests it, no, I won't by an Isuzu just to get projectors, and no, I won't buy a Chev, ever again wink.png

  5. Hi,

Do you kknow how much to add some Xenon lights to a Toyota car and if the lights sold are as good as they are on a brand new cars ?

Where in Bangkok or Pattaya can they install these lights ?

    Thanks.

However, in most cases that's not the only thing you'll need to acheive a true "factory" equivelant setup. Most factory HID system use projectors (the only exception that springs to mind is the 2nd gen Yaris [NCP91], which was available with factory HID's using only reflectors in the Taiwan domestic market).

ad Th spec Honda Accord 2008 and later

    Ahh yes, thanks :)

Note that in both cases, the reflectors used with HID/Xenon are very different to the reflectors used by models with halogen bulbs though (i.e. a totally different part with different beam pattern).

You should never retrofit HID/Xenon into a reflector housing designed for halogens - the light pattern will be wrong, and it will blind oncoming traffic.

On the same token though, if your car comes with OEM projectors but halogen bulbs, retrofitting HID/Xenon is fine, so long as you adjust the beam height correctly, and re-adjust it again as necessary when the vehicle is loaded.

  6. Yep, only differences between the new BT-50 and the Ranger are interior/exterior styling, suspension tuning, and packaging (model variants)

May I ask in your opinion which has the better of the things you pointed out?

Exterior styling aside as I know many don't like the like of the front grill on the Mazda. Here in the US we do not have the truck but when the cars came out with that grill many did not like it. Now that the cars are on the road they do not look too bad. Especially with a darker color exterior, the grill kind of disappears.

I've only driven the Ranger, not the BT-50 yet, so can't comment on ride quality or handling from personal experience I'm afraid. According to most reviews, the BT-50 rides a little firmer. 7. Well, so long as it has 300KM or more real range, I won't need it to be a range-extender - pure EV is fine. It's never going to replace any of my SUV's for long trip uses.

I also don't care where the electricity comes from, nor whether it ends up carbon neutral, positive or negative. In fact I don't give a crap about carbon, nor how many rare animal species I might end up inadvertantly saving in someone else's lifetime (or not). If I wanted to be some type of save the planet environmentalist, I'd make my family walk or cycle wink.png

All I want is a cheap, reliable car that can do the daily running about (avg. 200KM/day) with low running costs and decent comfort and safety. Deliver that for 1M Baht and I'm in. Push it to 2M Baht and I'm not intrested though, as the economics just wouldn't stack up anymore.

Anyway, I'm sure I'm not the only potential customer who'd be interested in an EV for purely selfish reasons - so no need to play the "save the environment" card - so long as you get the product right wink.png

  8. I don't want to be one of these ass...

Toyota is 1995 Corolla, I'm ok to change complete projector if possible and doesn't look too good on this old car (don't want to look like one of these axxholes with a very old car that they try to improve!) but it's ok, this car is used few months a year only and mostly not by me :-)

1995 is right on the cusp of a major model change, so hard to know if it's an AE100 or AE111...

The good news is that projector housings for these models are cheap, the bad news is you will look like "one of these axxholes with a very old car that they try to improve" :)

  9. Thanks, I want it cheap for an old Toyota Corolla that we only use sometimes (not a main car).

So to got cheap what should I buy ? 10000k is a maximum.

As noted, you can do a simple bulb upgrade for as little as 3500 Baht, but if using the existing reflector housings you will be one of those "<deleted>" who blinds oncoming traffic even on low beam, due to light bleed wink.png

There are some cheap-ish aftermarket projector housings for some Corolla's (Projectors won't blind oncoming traffic with HID/Xenon fitted), but you'd need to know the model before I could recommend a vendor/price.

  10. I would gladly pay 5k Baht for a DVD copy of working sat nav in the Evoque. smile.png

MB, BMW, Audi, Porsche and LR have been using HDD based systems rather than DVD for quite some time now and unless there is sufficient volume in the local market, in the case of Audi, Porsche and LR you won't been getting much help anytime soon. As for MB and BMW, it has been a very simple coding of software for the grey imports ever since the cars from MB TH and BMW TH have had Nav installed.

However you may care to check the following link which is a half way measure as the mapping maybe not the best, although not exactly for an Evoque, Audi, Porsche and VW owners might be happy. It certainly is worth the call to them.

When I saw you'd replied to this thread, I jumped out of my chair screaming "Woodsie to the rescue!".

    jing jing!

But I've had a couple of beers too :)

Will check the link, thanks! :D

  11. Christ, will stick to my candles or stay at home after dark eh. cowboy.gif

Yep. If you're going to do it correctly, you're definitely best off buying a model variant that already has them - doing it aftermarket (properly) is never going to make financial sense.

Says me who fitted xenon foglamps with projectors to my wife's old PJS, LOL ;)

  12. In Chaingmai I'd recommend either Khuangsingha (up near the Huay Kaew rd end of the 11) or Amnuay (head office on the 11 not far from Charoen Muang Rd [look for the big Alpine billboard]).

Note that there's a few vendors of these types of products in TH, so you might save some shipping delay by buying locally...

Thanks for the info. Was thinking of buying on a trip back to the UK. No rush, as a new truck isn't even on order yet ;-)

Would there be any effect on truck warranty, fitting something like this?

No arbitrary effect on warranty, no. If you were to have an electrical fault that could be blamed on the device or the way it was fitted, then yes. The two fitters I've recommended have always done top-notch work for me, but as always, YMMV.

  13. Hi,

Do you kknow how much to add some Xenon lights to a Toyota car and if the lights sold are as good as they are on a brand new cars ?

Where in Bangkok or Pattaya can they install these lights ?

    Thanks.

    What Toyota?

Most OEM HID/Xenon setups use 35W Ballasts and 4000 Kelvin bulbs. These are available in the aftermarket for anything from about 3,500 Baht (for no-name) up to ~15,000 Baht for name brands like Bosch, PIAA etc.

Then in most cases again, the full setup also includes headlamp washers and auto-levelling, as these are required for HID/Xenon to be road legal in most Western markets.

How far and how safe did you want to take it?

    15000 bht. ohmy.png for <deleted> head lights.

That's just for the bulbs and the ballasts (ballast = the "transformer" that runs them).

The projector housings that most HID/Xenon setups use (which is additional to the bulbs & ballasts) run around 30,000-60,000 Baht/pair as a genuine spare part (or 6K-20K/pr for aftermarket copies).

    1st time I have bought a new car, too. I can't wait!

Woohoo! there's nothing else quite like your first new car :)

The good news is, the excitement/anticipation of a new car never gets old either - even after 20 of them, you'll still be finding silly excuses to drive your new car ;)

  16. MBK is the place to buy.

I thought that too, but when i went there a few weeks ago with Sat Nav purchase in mind, all i could find was mobile phone outlets by the thousand! Would you have shop in mind you could direct me to?

Try calling this number - this is where i bought my last Garmin from: 080 627 5231

Cheers very much. English or Thai speaking?

Don't remember - It's hard for me to tell the difference these days :( But that's just because I tend to speak in hybrid, LOL :)

Pretty sure they'd be able to speak at least basic English though. The units they sell appear to be ex-Taiwan, and they obviously know a thing or three about their inner-workings, and have good connections for updates etc ;)

  17. Thanks, I guesslaugh.png

Though I won't find out until tomorrow if it is accepted. I'm not over the moon paying 820k ish for a car priced at 699, but it is the way it has got to be at the moment.

Sorry, was trying to be constructive and congratulatory, I tend to cut things a bit short sometimes smile.png

No apology necessary, I didn't mean for that to sound sarcastic; though reading it back it kinda did, sorry. The finance was approved today, so I will be picking the car up in 3 weeks hopefully. Thanks for the advice.

    Congrats! partytime2.gif

  18. Yeah I have my doubts too. But not having sat nav is not really a deal killer for me as I like that car. smile.png

The wife's car normally has at least 2 or 3 people with ipads (with at least one cellphone acting as a hotspot), so in-car navi and entertainment is a lot less useful than it was a few years ago, but yes, it's pretty crappy have a non-functional feature in a car, especially when you've given the gov't all those taxes to own it.

Unfortunately It's par for course at this level of the market in TH though - still waiting for working factory GPS in my Cayenne too (approaching a year now).
