  1. Hello everyone! Can't tell: Is Suan Phlu really still open? I have to do 30 day extension..

so for non immigration o visa holders we still go to suan phlu?

Suan Plu will only remain open for visa issuing, visa extension and 90 days report for the special labor of 3 nationalities (Laos, Cambodia, Mynmar ). All other immigration matters will be handled at Chaeng Wattana from Monday 28th September.

  2. What a ridiculous story. Who honestly cares, the fact university students are made to wear uniforms is a joke in the first place. They're meant to be young adults discovering themselves, for fuc_k sake let them discover and do something about your massive traffic problem, the rampant dumbing of trash and the polluting of water ways... Its gonna benefit a lot more than stopping a few politicians from getting hard ons and upsetting their wives...

Here, here. Let them think for themselves for once.

  3. This isn't a troll, its a genuine question.

I've seen this on soap operas, and also a couple of the extended family are number 2s.  I know it is prevalent all around the world but here it is far more prevalent and part of the culture.

In on of the general topic threads, a guy has got his second g/f pregnant...

As I said, two of the extended family are mistresses, to thais actually. Many thais have mistresses it seems, well, the rich ones, lol.

It's not just a affair either, some of these relationships last years, one I know of 6 years. The guy pays for her upkeep, she doesn't go out or anything, just sits at home waiting for her thai "bf" to come round.

The girls invariably are in total love with the guy, but he will never leave the wife and kids, yet she waits in vain, and if she makes to much of a fuss, she gets dumped for another girl.

I have been living here for over a half a year. Let me tell you, I can't begin to tell you about the relationships I've heard about and seen over this short period of time. So many people lying to eachother and not commiting to one person. It's a trip. I have some close friends (females~thai) that have been with their partners for years even though they stray sometimes. They just tell me that it hurts, but in the end they love their men and will stay with them.

I couldn't do it personally. My view: If you want to play around, play around. If you get married. Make the effort. But this seems to be a culture where they don't really talk about it, but it's everywhere and there are random family members everywhere.

I have another close friend that's divorced. She found out her Thai husband took another lover and kicked him out. She worked for herself, cleaned, and cooked all of the food...she came home to him drunk all the time and when he found another she called it quits. I admire her courage.

All in all, I now know what I don't want. That's for sure.

  4. hello !

i was wondering if anyone had been to the Agama yoga retreat in koh Pangan?

i m here in Chiang Mai learning thai massage and was thinking to go for a couple of weeks for this yoga retreat but not sure what to expect.

I hear that the island was more like a party place with infamous full moon party and thats exactly the crowd i would like to avoid.

Also any one has recommendations about buddhist class and meditation in Chiang Mai ?

    Thanks

    Luca

I had a friend that lived in Chiang Mai and went to Koh Panang a few times for yoga/meditation retreats. He loved it! The party scene is huge, but that's all around Haad Rin where the full moon parties are. Go to the opposite side of the island. It's gorgeous. I'll try to get a hold of my friend, he's on holiday now. Good luck!

  5. I had the flu (regular flu) last week, and the doc told me she didn't know what exactly was wrong with me. She said I did not have H1N1, but she could test me for it for or give me a vaccine. Then she wanted to give me all kinds of pills and told me to stay home and rest for 5 days, avoid public areas, and wear a face mask. Jeesh.

  6. Who cares? This swine flu is one of the least harmful, and least dangerous flus that the world has seen in the last 100 years. So far

only a tiny fraction of people have been infected, and have died, as happens with the "normal" flus that are more common. There

is absolutely nothing to fear. This flu will subside within a couple more months, and alot of embarrassed people will be running around

wondering why they got so excited about nothing.

    200% agree...

I got H3N5 / name : PIG FLU (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) in THAILAND (Chiang Mai) last December... I went to hospital... and took Tamiflu pills...

Don't forget that more than 200 died only in Thailand last winter with this flu !!!

Something like this pops up every few years at least. It's something to blame something else on.

  7. Add one more to the long list of reasons why tourists will avoid Thailand. As if Phuket wasn't already in bad enough shape- what in the world were the coppers thinking?! :)

I agree, this is terrible! It's bad enough they stand around and do nothing all day, even during traffic jams all over Bangkok. Now this?!!!

  8. So Thailand is a place where you will be thrown into a filthy, small jail cell with 3 others if you so much as take a bar towel from a bar?

I though Singapore was bad. Time to visit somewhere else.

This story is really gathering a very high profile in Australia, The Australian Prime Minister has now publicly denounced the Thai justice system and vowed to do everything possible to secure her immediate release.

The radio talk back stations have been swamped by callers telling of their experiences with rip offs and corruption in Thailand.

So many people with negative stories on Thailand coming to the public's attention will see a dramatic drop of in Aussies holidaying in Thailand and Phuket in particular (the new Bali for Australians).

I have never heard so much negativity from tourists from any country regarding Thailand.

It will be most interesting to see the reaction from the Thai Authorities given the comments from the Farang Australian Prime Minister, I doubt they will be prepared to lose face over this matter, even although it is just a small towel placed on the bar to soak up the spillage.

That one story has already touched so many people. Thailand needs more tourists, this is not going to help at all.

  9. I remember a few Years ago on the news, a woman actualy cut it off and sent it up into the sky on a hot air balloon.

Does anyone else remember this? Was it in Thailand?

They actually did a piece on goolie reattachment in the Bangkok Post before, and included that story. Apparently Thai doctors lead the field in this particular procedure..........

Not surprising! Could have been a cheap way to go for a sex change for this guy

  10. I'd like to send 25,000THB to US.

Anyone know the best way to do it without a Thai bank account?

Western Union charges 1,600THB to do this but it's quick.

I checked Siam CB, but they said to come back before 3pm M-F,

Just thought I'd see if anyone has info on the best bank to go to.

    Thanks

  11. This will not be "another blow to tourism" as some have suggested. Street crime is rampant in most urban areas here. Bangkok continues to be one of the most dangerous places in the world. Either you accept the facts or bury your head in the sand and hope you do not become a victim.

Stress brought on by the well publicized problems unique to Thailand and the current global economic crisis will cause crime to continue to rise. This is simply one of hundreds of violent crimes that occur in Thailand everyday. This one could not be covered up because a foreigner was tragically brought into the story.

I disagree with that. In fact it is still one of the safest cities in the world. Compare Bangkok with Manila, Rio de Janeiro, Phnom Phen, Los Angeles... only to mention a few

    Agreed!~

    Rio is so dangerous...

Bangkok feels ok to me, especially for being such a huge city. I hear the crime in the UK is pretty bad.
