  1. Is that something you really want to burden the poor kid with.....what on earth would the benefit be....surely if you are European/Aus/U.S the kid would be far better off with these nationalities....dont forget..Thais need visas to travel almost everywhere....the above nationalities fortunatly dont.....

  2. Not been on the island a while but have noticed that some of the agent websites have removed "company profile" etc.....just wandering, does that mean that everyone has been sacked.....doubt that anything is selling or even renting....still see houses for sale on websites now that were for sale 3 - 4 years ago....what is the market like???....

  3. My, how times have changed....I dont frequent the girlie bars but I remember thats what it was in Samui 2 or 3 years ago......Thai style....less customers, put the price up to compensate.....just thinking what you said...that could be 2,500 short time...thats 50 quid for a not so good s@*g.....cheaper at home innit

  4. The nightlife in Hua Hin now challenges Samui/Phuket and definatly puts Krabi to shame. The amount of bars and clubs especially those that are open to the very early hours are definatly more than Samui and as good as Phuket. The days of Hua Hin being a sleepy golfing/retirement/fishing town are long gone. Dont think anyone needs to get away south for the nightlife anymore :o

I have to disagree, I find Hua Hin nightlife boring in the extreme while Samui is quite the opposite, but I guess the term horses for courses might well apply. I would love them to resume flights to the south, especially after a six hour boat crossing where everyone spent the time being sick!

I have lived in Phuket Samui and Hua Hin, I tend to agree with Pothai....Samui has a few places to go...Solo Green Mango...same old same old....not much else on offer....Phuket, OK but too expensive...Hua Hin however seems to be open 24 hours.....no trouble getting latenight/very early hours drinking unlike the above places...Hua Hin has a good selection restaurants/clubs/girlie bars and straight bars....Hua Hin definatly gets my vote way above Samui or Phuket....and it is so cheap, quick and easy to get to compared to the South......also great beaches etc etc etc

  5. Price of buffalo now in Isaan, general but Nong Ki area in particular :o

Thought it was the same everywhere...200 baht bar and 500 baht for the buffalo :D

  6. Any foreigner that buys/leases any property in Thailand needs their head testing. You will never own it and the Thai government will change laws at will.......Ok, if property was 5K or 6K Sterling then maybe think about it but to pay 5,6,7,10,15, Million Baht for something that will NEVER be your own is ludicrous...just dont understand the mentality of people, do they leave their brains in a dustbin at the airport or what

  7. Forget the Air Asia KL - Stanstead, by the time you pay the extras for any luggage, food or entertainment....which you will need on a 13 hour flight and then getting to KL it is more expensive than a flight from BKK.

I had the same problem a month or so ago....booked with Thai air direct at 39,000 but with U.K credit card so was almost 800 quid....same flight from LDN - BKK was just over 400, so almost double....Sri Lanka are normally cheap at about 28,000 inclusive but via coloumbo and they always seem to get delayed because cant fly there at night, so not so good.

  8. Its a nightmare and I am sleeping in the office for a few days with microwave meals as I cant bear the though of sitting in stinking wet clothes all day.BAN IT....I DAY ONLY PLEASE

  9. The wording of your work permit shows what you can do. From memory, the wording is usually vague and can be quite extensive to cover most eventualities. Thus, someone who had a hotel, might not legally be able to take money but he would be able to manage the taking of money and thus would be allowed to train someone who was to handle money meaning that, in the course of training, he would actually have to do the job he was not allowed to do. His work permit might have to state his capacity as a trainer and manager.

It is a minefield and I believe that even the best worded permits are void if the authorities want to make a problem for you. The law is an ass in this area.

I don't think gardening and the like are a problem but they could technically fall foul of the labour laws. As could giving your missus a massage, cutting your own toe nails and washing your own hair as there are Thai people who could do this for you and therefore you are presumably denying them an income by doing it yourself.

Any work on the house...including building of...car washing gardening is all OK...so go ahead and be a house husband....

  10. Index linked and spouse pensions are not worth it,especially at 70. If you are married get a guarantee for 5 or better 10 years so the annuity is guarenteed to be paid for that term even in the event of your death. Linked to the RPI you will loose a considerable monthly amount and will take years to gain back with the minimal increases/max 5%....look at the RIP at the moment especially. Single life/level/10 year guarentee is what I always recommended and for my past customers this has stood them well. Take a look at the annuity tables and excercise your right to the open market option......shop around, most annuity providers have 0800 numbers so wont cost anything. Annuity rates are at an all time low, will they increase, who knows???
