  1. I am in the need of several books. I prefer second-hand for buying these particular books outright is quite expensive. Would you possibly know where I could locally find the following books?

    1. Writer's Reference with Resources for Multilingual Writers and ESL

    2. Grammar for Teachers: A Guide to American English for Native and Non-Native Speakers

    3. The Empowered Writer: An Essential Guide to Writing and Research

    Thank you for your effort....

  2. Greetings. I am a Health Sciences professor with a local university. I am in need of First-Aid / CPR training materials in English. Almost one month ago I contacted several Red Cross organizations such as the British Red Cross, the American Red Cross and the Australian Red Cross. Still no answer from any of the Red Cross groups. I even searched nearly every English book store in Bangkok. Nothing so far.

Does anyone have any advice or guidance on locating First-Aid and/or CPR information in Englsih? I need brochures, posters, and training manuals, Thank you.....

  3. There is a slow process of discovery going in the country. They are finding out that in many areas, the Thai education system just isn't keeping up with international standards. Thai Students from fairly early on are not doing as well as could be expected.

Thailand will have to wake from it's nightmare of education, shake off it's fear of the Western-oriented ghosts and then move forward.

Your ideas will be easier to swallow once this happens.

You deserve my fellow foreign teachers and I to buy you dinner for your supporting response clap2.gif
  4. Well here is an update………….. I have presented the originally posted observations along with simple remedies well over 100 times to parents, teachers, and school associations. The majority of my explanations have been rejected on the grounds that I am not Thai, I do not understand the Thai mindset, Western people and Thai people view honesty and integrity differently, and, the best for last, the parents object to their children becoming more confident in themselves for the fear of disrespect. I have not found much merit in the received responses as well as I have not been able to validate the unreasonable connections.

I am continuing to be hopeful in reaching the hearts and minds of those that ask for help to become globalized citizens… hit-the-fan.gif

  5. I would like to share with you some suggestions that I feel will create more honest and open communication between Thai teachers and Foreign teachers in order to build a better English or Foreign Language Program for both students and teachers.

    1. Challenge Negative Thoughts. We should teach students to recognize and confront negative thoughts that challenge their belief in their ability to do something.
    2. Teach Goal Setting. We should understand how to help the students create a goal and keep them motivated while pursuing the goal.
    3. Notice and Analyze Behavior. Parents along with teachers, both Thai and Foreign, have to work together as a team to identify behavioral strategies that will bring about a better outcome with the students.
    4. Use Sincere Praise. We should praise the students who use integrity to bring about success.
    5. Provide Opportunities for Improvement. We should give students new and challenging opportunities to increase their skills, and help them try different ways to achieve their goals.

  6. I am applying for employment at a new school. They want some type of Employment Certification Letter stating that, in fact, I have been legally teaching in Thailand for 3 years as stated in my resume. I offered copies of my contracts but they want an official document. What special document should I ask the secretary for at my current school?

  7. I have known for all my life that the Good Ole USA is the greatest country in the world. Judging by the constant influx of immigrants this must also be the world’s view. It is time for Americans to grow up… The up and coming Presidential Election is reducing most Americans to the level of ill-mannered children. Realize not everyone in the world has the same opinion of US President Barack Hussein Obama. We should be allowed to express our viewpoint of whom we choose to represent our country..................

  8. I am an evangelical Christian, I do share my faith with others but only those who show an interest, I do not force anybody to listen nor do I drone on when no-one is listening, I do not like many of the tv evangrlists who give a ten minute sermon and a fifty minute sales pitch. As a christian I cannot force anybody to believe what I believe, that would be counter productive. If I talk to someone and the subject about what I believe comes up and I can see there is no interest outside of polite attention, then I will stop talking about my beliefs and let the conversation go in a different direction. The best evangelistic tool I have is the way I live my life, I cannot justify telling others to live righteously while living unrighteously myself, if you do not do as you say, you cannot expect others to do what you say without seeing what you do first. Christians are persecuted and killed in parts of the world where there is religious intollerance, in Northern India it is at the hands of zealous Hindus, in the Middle East and Northern Africa it is at the hands of Muslims, China often has regular raids on underground churches which can often lead to lengthy prison terms without trial, in the West it is the athiestic interest groups that want to silence the church in countries that were founded on Christian principles. Here in Thailand there is religious tollerance and all religious groups have the right to promote their brliefs, which is as it should be.

I must say this is the most well thought out response I have ever seen on TV............. clap2.gif
  9. Point to note - The constitution of Thailand (+ the history and culture of Thailand) allow and encourage religious tolerance - The OP might learn from this.

So does the American constitution but it doesn't seem to have sunk in with the Tea Party and their friends.

"We the people in order to form a more perfect I don't have to be responsible for my own actions society......."
  10. We came to Thailand to escape religious and political persecution. Now the extreme religious converters follow us. Where and when does it stop........ angry.png

They were here long before you were. Most hurt no one and are doing what they think is right.. Live and let live I say. wai.gif

  11. Where do American's get together in Bangkok to discuss the condition of their country? We are looking for some stimulating political, religious, economic, or general conversation. Please, we are not interested in any emotional heated juvenile debates. We just simply need an exchange of ideas and opinions about the country's current and future situation. wai.gif

  12. Just read the latest info from the excise dept. website, and it doesn't appear that anything has changed:

    http://www.excise.go...dex.php?id=1015

As before, you have to sign a form that waives your right to transfer ownership for 5 years (which DLT needs to stamp), and another form that proclaims your intention to claim the rebate in a year's time.

Then, in a year's time it's up to you to lodge the final claim form.

Do you know which forms you had with you when you went to the excise dept? Did you have the transfer of ownership waiver, notorised by the DLT with you? Or perhaps you tried to submit the actual claim (which would be premature)?

Just trying to look for a logical explanation... wink.png

Mr. MoonRiverOasis, thank you for your objective reasoning. Could you please PM............. I have a question about the Tax Rebate that I would rather not post.
  13. Just went to our local excise tax office in Chiang Rai to ask what documents were needed to claim the rebate and nothing had changed since we asked a few months ago when this was first confirmed. As soon as the blue book is issued we can submit all documents, then 3 months later we can check that we have been approved and then 1yr after the application is first registered the rebate will be deposited into a bank account of our choice.

My wife asked whether there was any truth in a rumour that is circulating on a popular farang forum that the Govt has postponed the rebate or stopped receiving applications and they'd heard nothing about it, one lady even rang BKK to check they hadn't missed an update but they also confirmed everything is still the same.

I am sorry this is being considered a rumor. Simply just asking for guidance.............. I understand the same process as mentioned above. We tried to follow the instructions as set forth. We had our documents verified at the previous Excise Tax office. Our car is financed with a major Thai bank so we tried to get them to do their part. Maybe our bank finance manager was misinformed about the Excise Tax Rebate as well as the officer on what is the next step. We will try another Excise Tax location. Thank you for the reassurance that this program has not changed
