  2. I have a bottle of the best whisky in the world, an Irish whisky called Black Bush from the oldest distillery in the world, Bushmills in Northern Ireland but being a teetotaler I haven't tasted it. You're welcome anytime to try it out and give your judgement.

  3. There are two tattooist at the night bazaar, one of them has been there for many years.

My son has had tattoos done there twice in the last four years ( in spite of strong objections from me) without any problems and highly praises his work.

The tattoo was left uncovered but he was strongly advised to keep it moist with vaseline.

This business premises is near the reggae bar on the way to the toilets in the night bazaar.

The place looks clean enough , he sterilises everything and he is a friendly guy to boot.

Maybe he had a bad day.................. sorry for your experience.

  4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loy_Krathong

β€œLoi” means β€œto float”. β€œKrathong” is a raft about a handspan in diameter traditionally made from a section of banana tree trunk (although modern-day versions often use styrofoam), decorated with elaborately-folded banana leaves, flowers, candles, incense sticks etc. During the night of the full moon, many people will release a small raft like this on a river. Governmental offices, corporations and other organizations also build much bigger and more elaborate rafts, and these are often judged in contests. In addition, fireworks and beauty contests take place during the festival.

The festival probably originated in India as a Hindu festival similar to Divali as thanksgiving to the deity of the Ganges with floating lanterns for giving life throughout the year.

  5. I haven't read every post herein, but read about half. I'm also a fan of Muslim food places. The place on the one-way side road alongside the Muslim temple with the green-topped spires. There's a newer place on Rim Kok which parallels the river on the north side, in Ban Mai. nice open air ambiance.

Ever notice how the only restaurants in town with bars of soap bigger than a slivered almond are either farang or Muslim owned? Oh, and the vege place on the east side of the Night Bazaar has soap, and the food is good and low-cost. Plus it's a quiet clean place to read a newspaper and chill - a rarity anywhere in Thailand.

Nice to see there are several very decent coffee shops popping up in C.Rai - some even have live unamplified string music. If you ever see an unamplified guitarist performing in Thailand - go up and give him a big thumbs up - as it's such a rarity. So nice to hear the subtle sound of strings coming from the body of a guitar - rather than the vibrations of a coil in a cardboard speaker powered by electric current.

At least a dozen times I've found a very cool restaurant in C.Rai, and within a few weeks it closes. Perhaps that's an indication that if something good comes along - to keep me from frequenting it. Same sort of pattern with women, but that's another story.

I ate at the Muslim restaurant just over the bridge and just past the Rimkok rd on the left yesterday. Everythink was really delicious. Friendly family runs the place and good lunchtime crowd, which is usually a good sign. Very clean.

They also have a good selection of cars for sale.

Police in the North were searching Thursday for a man accused of raping an Israeli tourist in the northern province of Chiang Rai.

Police Lieutenant Suphot Suwan of Chiang Rai city said an Israeli tourist aged 22 had filed a rape charge against a young Thai man who had befriended her at a discotheque.

The tourist, who had stayed behind at the Chiang Rai disco after her seven friends left early Thursday morning, was approached by a Thai man who offered to drive her to her guest house.

"The man allegedly took the tourist outside the city and raped her in his car," said Suphot in a telephone interview. "The woman managed to get out of the car and run away, getting assistance from nearby villagers.

Police were hunting for a young Thai man in his twenties who was known to frequent the disco. (dpa)

  7. I am not familiar with dentists in Chiang Mai so difficult to compare.

I can compare them with dentists in Ireland and England and can state that they are just as professional as their foreign colleagues.

I think you will find dentist prices in Chiang Rai much cheaper than C'Mai.

    Keep smiling.

  8. From here: http://www.tourismthailand.org/about/about...px?ParentID=213

Price will be increased by 50% (suprise, suprise)

    Routes will be:

    AE1 Suvarnabhumi-Silom (by expressway)

    AE2 Suvarnabhumi-Bang Lamphu (by expressway)

    AE3 Suvarnabhumi-Sukhumwit 3 or North Nana

    AE4 Suvarnabhumi-Hua Lamphong (by expressway)

Does that mean that AE3 won't use expressway and will instead go along Sukhumwit all the way? In that case 150B airport bus will probably be even slower option for reaching lower Sukhumwit than 35B public bus + 25B skytrain combination.

Since this bus is already 150 baht (btw 100 baht to the airport) and it's increasing by 50%, does that mean it's now going to be 225 baht?????????

Thai death woman was Dublin nurse

The name of the young Irish woman who drowned on a Thai island on Tuesday has been released.

She was Linda Crossan, a 28-year-old Dublin-based nurse from Greaghdermotitt, Carrickmacross, County Monaghan.

Friends who were travelling with Linda tired in vain to rescue the only girl in a family of five children.

In a statement the Crossan family said they did not know when her remains would be brought home.

Still strange that it wasn't reported in Thailand, as most deaths of foreigners are.

    R.I.P
