  1. Everyone has their own taste in water. For me, however, there is only one company in Chiangmai with EXCELLENT water. Patcharee 053 471538. They deliver their big bottles to me every week for 20 baht for what seems to be 15 liters. Courteous service and great water....Ive tasted the other ones, most of which have they metallic taste. Get a Thai friend to arrange for a drop off.

  3. If you saw the set-up (needing to get through an entire house and then breaking into a separate structure, steel cages, etc), I think you might change your opinion. It's not Fort Knox, but the security is pretty good. Four cages in the entire place will not attract any thieves. In addition, the mooban guard would start wondering why someone is standing in front of the house for days. Remember, also that this mooban has only one entrance....no thru traffic. Finally, there are a lot bigger and prettier houses around to rob.

I would be worried about break ins, since its in a residential area. Even though there are tenants, the thieves would just have to watch them for a few days to suss out their coming and goings. I would much prefer to store my goods in a commercial location that has proper security.
  4. The storage cages are all finished, and we have done what we can to alleviate any possibility of flooding. In general, though, our mooban doesn't flood. The four cages are each 1.5 cubic meters, and we will be renting them for 1000 baht a month. Everything is ventilated and clean, and there is access to parking, water, space to pack and repack. Contact me if you are interested. Thanks for all the helpful comments.

  5. Just to answer some concerns expressed. The mooban where house is located is a safe one, and very central. We live in the same mooban, about one minute's walk away. In order to get to the rental room, you have to go through a townhouse, and no one else has access. While I would be opening and closing, I would not have access to anyone's cubicle, and they would put the lock on themselves. As to flooding, as far as I know, the mooban doesnt get affected by that.....but all the cubicles will have shelves as well. The security is better than if things are kept in an untenanted apartment for months. And yes, I will have people sign a statement that there are no drugs, etc. being stored.

  6. We moved my elderly parents from New York to Chiangmai, and bought five large suitcases with wheels and plenty of compartments. Their dimensions are the maximum permissible ones according to US International airlines rules. They are really high quality and have only been used once. Would anyone be interested in buying one or more of them for 1000 baht each? We live in the center of the city, in the Nimmanhaemin area. Feel free to reply to me with your phone number or email.

  7. Have you tried the international schools here? This is the time when they often hire for the autumn.

    Hi,

I am an English teacher with about 1 and 3/4 years experience (1 1/2 years of informal experience as a volunteer teacher and a few months of formal experience working in Bangkok), a TEFL certificate and bachelor's degree. I've been applying at schools in Chiang Mai ever since January this year. Recently I decided to come here so that I could fill out applications in person. I've been here for about three days and have been visiting the schools and submitting applications.

Still, I'm not having luck finding a job or even getting an interview. I was wondering if anyone has any advice for me.

    I appreciate the help.

  8. With all the people coming and going in Chiangmai, I was wondering whether there is a need for safe, reasonably-priced storage space in a central location in town, as an alternative to renting a whole room for a few things. I have a place in mind that would even allow safes to be bolted in. If there is anyone interested, please contact me.

  9. You can buy ZayHi at www.zayhi.com, register your card number to your phone (so you don't have to redial the card number each time) and enjoy very good connections to the US, Canada and most of Europe for 85 satang a minute, with a local access number in CM....from ANY PHONE.

  10. Hang out in the Nimmanhaemin area. Lots of art galleries, restaurants, pretty sois and nice people. Very little water throwing, and mostly the traditional type. If you are in Mooban Nanatawan, you will stay dry. I know. My wife and I live here.

  11. There were three major and a host of minor candidates. The victory was decisive and clear. Again.....frustrating the will of the people for a disputed paper is sickening.

but she won a landslide victory

    Not exactly a landslide:

"She defeated the incumbent who was a member of the now defunct Thai Rak Thai party. She didn't actually win 59.66% of the vote, she won just over 40% of the vote (when you exclude spoiled ballots and no votes which is even less of course if you don't exclude such votes). This was far from a landslide, it was a solid victory no doubt, but no landslide. 59.66% was the percentage of eligible voters who turned up to vote." (Bangkok Pundit)

  12. Unbelievable!

This is a de minimus infraction. One look at our mayor's last name (Royal Family of Lanna) should tell you where she's from. Using relatively small infractions and irregularities to disqualify parties, public officials, etc simply politicizes the courts even more and invites abuse of the law by the powers that be. Yes, she's from the Democratic party in Red Shirt Chiangmai, but she won a landslide victory, and worked tirelessly on behalf of ALL Chiangmai residents. The fact that a minor irregularity can disqualify a mayor TWO YEARS after the election is nothing short of criminal!

  13. Pesach (passover) is getting closer. We will be having a seder at our house on Wednesday, March 8, and those who wish to attend can contact me here

This seder will be partly in Thai, so if you have a Thai significant other or kids it may be more enjoyable for them too. We need to know in the next couple of days who will be coming. Whether you come or not.......Chag Sameach....Happy Holiday.

  14. The Nimmanhaemin area is a very good choice. You have many educated farang and Thai, lots of cultural activities, etc. As for parking, the Monkey Club on soi 9 has a huge parking lot virtually unused during the day. I am sure they would be amenable to allowing Walen to use it during the day for a small fee. These kind of arrangements are not uncommon. One other possibility in mooban Nantawan off of Nimmanhaemin, directly across from the parking lot of the Amari Rincome. There are a few large houses for rent there.

  15. Dr Suripon at Dr. Darede (Prof. of Periodontics) Clinic across the street from Ruam Paet Hospital, near the Chiangmai Gate Hotel. He's great, as is she, does not charge differential prices and will not make you go through unnecessary treatments. The number is 053 271832. The dentists there all speak excellent English, but the receptionist doesn't, so have a Thai friend call for an appointment. BTW, Dr Darede saved my teeth nine years ago, and I wouldnt consider going anywhere else. All her people are first rate.
