  1. My feelings for Thailand are mixed..

    ..

The place is dirty/sleazy and rank, with thin veneers of opulence when you walk into the better hotels, restaurants and shopping malls, but that’s Asia for you.

I take it you won't be back then? Thank you!

    more room for estonians

Nah, not just for Estonians, more room for everybody who lives here, and likes it here.

i like it enough to stay here but not enough to blind me to the problems that spoil it

the problem is Thais do not see it as westerners see it and do not know what they are doing wrong

they think its ok and whilst they do, it will never change for the better

its a shame, for the cost of the totally unnecessary, politicians golden parachute, 150 million baht pattaya city sign so much could be done to improve it

  2. I understand its called the dark side because originally that side didn't have electricity but the other side did.

I can confirm that the dark side is over rated. I for one will not be stopping at any of the empty bars again.

The bars had advance warning you were coming.
Anyone who likes the Dark Side is living in the past when perhaps the bars had people in them. So over rated, just not worth going to.

you think the dark side is just bars and the people who live there's lives revolve around them?

many people who live on the darkside , do so to get away from people who lives are spent in bars

  4. I'd have figured the Bangkok refugees would have more than filled the gap.

This is exactly what is happening now so yes "tourism" is down but the Bangkokians are taking up the space.

The TAT wouldn't post such negative reports if it wasn't true.

No, most Hotels are booked solid but again, from Bangkokians.

    TAT paid by the reds

reds want to discredit the PDRC

TAT is told by reds to publish propaganda stating tourism is down due to protests by PDRC

Thais then have someone to blame for any shortfall in their pockets

same people blame PDRC for monetary losses

    people turn on PDRC

TAT are told exactly what to say by the current regime, whether it be negative, true or false

in the same vein i wonder how much tourism was down when the reds occupied the central area of Bangkok for 3 months ?

  6. After I suggested bahtsold.com I looked and saw a great deal for both rim and rubber for 1,200b but if that is to much of a hastle then yes go to Goodrich.

exactly how did you know what size of tyre or the size of wheel he wants and for which vehicle he wants it for ?

however if he has a Toyota tiger or sport rider that's 10 -20 years old then this might be for him

Toyota Sport Rider /Tiger/Sport Cruiser. Spare wheel and Tyre.

BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A Size 285/75/R16

  7. As I need both the wheel and the tyre I was thinking more of a place like a breaker's yard than a tyre shop. I've never had occasion to go to a breaker's yard here (in fact I dont think I've even noticed one when driving around) and I expect there are good ones and bad ones, so that was why I asked for advice about such places. And advice about likely prices for the same reason. Forewarned is forearmed.

For me classified ads tend to be a lot of hassle and wasted time and effort, but thanks for the suggestion.

    bridgestone on sukhumvit road

between pattaya Thai and pattaya klang

on the left side heading to pattaya klang about half a mile before the new macdonalds

almost immediately after a motorcycle dealers

its a family business , i have known them for many years and had many good deals

he has hundreds of used but good and sorted/tested tyres in the back

the son has just finished a year at Birmingham university in Uk and speaks pretty good English

expect to pay about 1000 for a used Tyre with lots of tread on it

an old steel wheel might be 500 more, maybe 2000 for a good alloy

price may vary depending on the vehicle tyre size and includes fitting testing balancing etc

guarantees are really by word of mouth but you can expect that if it deflates, or is problematical etc with no help from any nails or from you within a few days then they will change it for you for another used tyre

they are a good firm to work with and you might get a few hundred baht knocked off their initial asking price if you ask nicely

  8. If you DO find one, ask the renter for a shovel so that when you are trying to jet ski through the Pattaya Harbour sludge you might need to dig your way back to shore.

this photo was taken this morning

not quite the mess some folks believe it to be..........

  9. Who said the OP is riffraff ?

Most likely most of us were "riffraff" when we first came to Pattatya and the many who found wifes and lives here and became non-riffraff moved to the dark side or other surrounding areas.

    Seeing as the OP's next question will be "Why do they call it the dark side"? I will give my true theory;

In 2005 when they were cutting power off at first the "Cock Inn" and "Noi's" and a few other bars for not paying copyright fines week after week it became knows as The Dark Side.

I'm sure many will disagree but ......

i don't disagree with your ''true theory'' (whatever that is)

its just complete and utter nonsense

you say you never go to the beach, how would you know ?

  11. made an appointment based on recommendations on here

he was fully booked for more than two weeks

    he must be some dentist...

turned out he was some dentist!

    he is very highly recommended

i cannot speak to highly about him

thanks to all on TV who steered us to him

  12. Wow.

I have heard of this minor trend in the west, of some LARGE stores demanding a "looking fee" if no purchase (but CLEARLY warned about before you enter the store). This is because many people test out products at stores only to decide what product to buy ONLINE and cheaper. You can't blame those stores.

But it sounds like what you saw at Tukcom was indeed a scam.

You can't do that unless you clearly inform people beforehand, and then customers would just walk to ANOTHER booth.

Imagine if real estate agents start charging a " looking fee " ?ohmy.png

They do in some countries. I know they do in Ecuador, an hourly rate I recall. In Pattaya, I had a clerk who showed me a condo, put her hand out and say, you know, this is a SERVICE business ...

aah but what kind of service....?

  13. i told my story of an event that happened to me in a topic about Thai parking abuses

i do not care if you like my story or not

i did not give anyone advise about anything

how another person deals with abuse of parking regulations will be their decision

personally i would rather have a scratched car or a damaged tire than to have to consider selling my principles so cheap

i do not care to heed your advise on how to live my life:

''I would advise to listen and not park there, if a Thai tells you not to''

i dance to the beat of my own drum

I never asked you to like my story, and my advice in my earlier post

(my last post, where I quoted you, but using a mobile I accidentally typed inside the borders of your post, TV Android app crashed while was trying to post, it is now a mess, I have asked mod to fix or delete that post)

My intension was not tell you how to live your life, as you interpreted it. I simply posted that it is hazardous to ignore a Thai, who tells you not to park on a spot that Thai person thinks he owns.

Did you read last night news, firearm used to settle parking dispute, and 4 shots fired.

You dance to your drum, cool! I, as a mindless sheep, try to follow Thai rules. In my first year I spent some time in Memorial hospital, cos I wasnt aware of some Thai rules.

Maybe some readers here are not aware of Thai rules, and retribution from angry Thai may come as a surprise, my advice was intended to that reader.

i am aware of the hazards and relish opportunities to point out just how wrong they are

i realize that one day i may well be the subject of a news item on ThaiVisa but i would rather live one day as a tiger than a lifetime as a sheep

so keep your advise directed towards that other reader

maybe they will care to accept it more graciously than i

Black - You go against the grain of the majority of posters on these fair boards.

    I like you.

thank you, although it saddens me too

over 20 members have indicated they liked my original post and i do appreciate their support

but the truth is i was only standing up for my right to park legally on a publicly owned road

i mean this was not outside someones house in a narrow street

this was on second road near Isuzu

even as the much mooted on ThaiVisa 'guest in this country' who should supposedly kowtow to all and sundry to keep the peace

surely i am allowed to park my car so i can spend my money here without being intimidated and threatened?

  14. I don´t know how it is in other cities but in Pattaya ALL the shop owners seem to think the parking space in front of the shop belong to them and all the car owners seem to think they can park wherever they desire.

Someone mentioned you can not park at front of the shops of courtesy.

Where should people park? This is not US or Europe , they don´t have parking building every 500 meters here.

We maybe should do as thai drivers do, double park wherever we desire biggrin.png

Thai drivers don't double park, they abandon randomly

Cmon man, this is not about you! You have said in many posts that you have lived here for years, of course you know how it is here.

But there are people reading this forum, who dont know the Thai rules. They will learn, but maybe the hard way. Is it wrong to advise them, so that they know the game, if they chose to do things their way, fine, as long as they what may happen to them or their property.

Again, I am not trying to give advice to you. I am not telling you how to live your life, pls don't put words in my mouth, it bad form.

Do you really consider people in Pattaya who play by Thai rules sheep? Lifetime of sheep?

i did not deny knowing it happens here and have never said it didn't but it is not my duty to educate other people in how to deal with situations in their life

i told my story, in the telling of it, i did not advise anyone to do anything

no one has put words in your mouth now or then, despite your pathetic attempts to backtrack by blaming your app/phone, you did take it upon yourself to proffer advise to me on how to behave

that's simply the truth, not bad form

you said '' I would advise to listen and not park there, if a Thai tells you not to''

    sounds like advise to me........
