Thanks for the replies everybody; looks like there are quite a few options available!

Hi,
I land at Suvarnabhumi at 6am and have a few hours to waste until my flight to Samui on the same evening.
I'm meeting a friend who lives on Lower Sukhumvit at about lunch time, and was hoping to pass the time by getting some breakfast and doing some shopping.
Does anybody know of anywhere, besides hotels, that will be open at about 7am for breakfast? Preferably an English breakfast, but don't really care. Most of the pubs don't open until 10am, I believe?
Sorry if this has been posted before. I've made the title pretty explicit, so need to open it if you don't want to

Hanrahans Soi 4 definitely showing the games

Not sure if it's the same one - but there is The Black Sheep (Il Pecora Nero ???? Apologies to Italians for my spelling).
Where is this place, Trop?
It's in Choengmon (NE end of the island).
If you drive from Big Buddha to Choengmon - just as you enter the village, on the right. Before a big restaurant called the Long Table. (Expensive - not great)
You cannot miss the Black Sheep - big pizza oven next to the pavement (sidewalk?)
The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, but my god... the food!
My mates have had to put up with my obsession with it for the past few weeks as the count down to Samui dwindles!
-
Yep - the really miserable guy who takes the orders
Haha, he was very amiable over December/January. Maybe he was just in the holiday spirit at the time!

It's basically a pizza place. Over 50 choices of pizza - thin base - very tasty and not expensive. Really interesting toppings
About a dozen or more calzone and a few pastas.
Decently priced beers and they sell large bottles of Singha/Chang
I was not impressed with the pasts dishes, but the rest are PDG. Most friends that we have eaten there with enjoy it too.
It is on my recommended list for the pizzas
That's the one mate. Sorry, I thought the name appeared in the title.
I'm a very big fan. Can't work out why nothing about it is to be found on the internet!
Very much looking forward to going there next month. Are the same staff there? The pizza chef with the shaved head and the Turkish waiter?

I discovered this restaurant during a trip to Samui in December/January and ended up going there every single night of my holiday. The restaurant had two Italian chefs and the food was literally the best Italian food I have had in my life (much better than the seemingly popular Prego). The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, though!
I haven't been able to find anything online about it, which I find utterly bizarre. Has anybody else been there? I'm praying it's still open when I return to Samui next month!

Have you looked in to the banyan tree ? Or even Niki beach/beach republic ?
Would love to stay at the Banyan Tree; unfortunately it's a bit beyond my means mate!
I'm actually staying a few nights at the Beach Republic after the stay at Le Meridien or Renaissance
My short list at the moment is actually just Renaissance/Le Meridien at the moment. I want to stay on Lamai beach because a couple of my friends are staying there at the same time as me so it'd be good to be close to them. I will check out Niki Beach though, thank you.

Hi all,
I've only ever been to Samui once before, staying @ Hansar (Bohput) and don't really have much knowledge of the island. I've narrowed down my shortlist of hotels to these two and I am hoping that somebody who lives on/frequents the island can advise on which is better (obviously subjective, but I'd appreciate any advice). For your information, I am a 23 year old Australian and travelling with two colleagues (Singaporean). We're just after somewhere to relax for 7 nights.. not too worried about proximity to bars/bringing girls back etc. It's just a break from work!
Thanks in advance,
Liam

Yeah a mate and I will be driving up from Pattaya... send me a message if you want

They are both top quality luxury hotels on the beach... so it depends on personal preference, i.e., if you want to be in the center of downtown within walking distance of most bars, restaurants, and shopping the Sofitel would be the better option as the Intercontinental is a couple of kilometers out of town center. The other main difference is style; the Intercontinental is brand new and modern (Thai design) and the Sofitel is the oldest hotel in Hua Hin, but it is maintained meticulously and has the charm and style of an old colonial hotel. I believe the Centara rooms you are referring to in the Sofitel are not in the main hotel though, but are private (or semi private?) bungalows on the adjacent property. Both properties should provide a great holiday and as I said it is personal preference, but I would choose the Sofitel simply because of the more convenient location.
Are you a single traveler, family, or couple and what are your interests in coming to Hua Hin? The answers to those questions may have bearing on your choice as well.
Thanks for the reply mate.
What you've said in terms of the style difference is the problem I've faced. It's like comparing apples with oranges! Both have received very good reviews from guests.
I didn't realise Intercontinental was further out than Sofitel.. thanks for that.
I'll likely be a single traveler, although my girlfriend will come if she can get time off work. I'm 22 years old and not particularly into the bar scene, if you mean the girlie bars. I do like to have a few beers though. Basically I'm going to Hua Hin to relax for a week.
By the way, the room I'd be booking at the Sofitel isn't one of the Villas (I wish). It's just part of the main wing but affords Lounge Access too.
After your advice I'm leaning towards Sofitel, cheers for that!

Hi Guys,
I am in the process of booking a week-long trip to Hua Hin in June. I've never been to Hua Hin and my only knowledge of the area and its hotels is from the internet.
Basically I've narrowed my choices down to these two hotels. I have the option of either a Luxury Club Room (W/ Lounge Access) at the Sofitel Centara or a Deluxe King room at the Intercontinental for approximately the same price.
Could anybody with knowledge of both hotels/the area please provide some guidance as to which they think would be the better option??
Thanks in advance!

Hi everybody,
Thanks for the replies.
Sasin looks like quite a good program. Quite expensive though.
To answer Benjie, I worked right out of High School (17) doing a cadetship for four years, which combined study and work. After that, I've spent the last 2 years studying the second degree (it only took two years because of recognition of prior learning).
The overwhelming consensus seems to be that it would be better to study/advance my career here first before worrying about working in Thailand. I think I will try to focus on that, and hopefully get an employer here to fund an MBA

Thanks for the replies guys.
I was hoping an MBA from a Thai University would lead to excellent job prospects over there, but that wouldn't appear to be the case.
By the way, the cost of the Mahidol MBA is ~370 000 thb.

Hi everybody,
Firstly, I'm not sure if the most appropriate forum to make this post, so sorry if I've missed a more suitable forum or sub-forum.
I am seeking advice on studying for an MBA in Thailand (particularly at Mahidol University, unless you guys can recommend another). Ultimately, I would like to work in Thailand, but this will be difficult given my age and qualifications. Will studying an MBA in Thailand help circumvent some of these difficulties? Also, how well would such a qualification be recognised outside of Thailand should I wish to leave Thailand?
I am 23 years old and my current qualifications are: Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) w/ Honours - University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Business (Management) from RMIT University.
I have ~ 6 years experience working for the Federal Government in Australia, mainly in fraud investigations (I did a cadetship straight out of High School). The last two years have been part-time, while I focussed on finishing my studies.
I have not yet undertaken any study towards the CA, though I would ultimately like to.
I would like to work in the Accounting/Finance industry. My previous work experience was used mainly to support my studies.
Sorry to bore you guys with such a long and dry post, I'm just hoping that somebody with previous experience, or inside knowledge might be able to assist.
Thanks in advance

Well yeah, my group bought drinks, but I was just trying to say I thought they were fairly reasonable when it came to not pressuring people into buying drinks etc (with the exception of the dancers)
I would be interested to know who owns the place though, as the girls gave off a little bit of a controlled by Russian Mafia vibe
-
Forgot to mention... some photographer there walks around taking photos of people with the ladies, then asks for 300 baht for the photo.
Being the tightass I am, I duly refused.
-
Both of my friends bought a Singha each, but I didn't buy anything. No chance I'm paying 280 baht for a beer that costs 35 at the 7-11 opposite..
-
I went there last month, and actually spoke to a couple of the girls. Very friendly, and don't seem to expect anything of you in terms of tipping, buying drinks etc (except the ones actually dancing). The two I spoke to were from Belarus & Moldova, very attractive, and even gave me a hug and kiss on the cheek when I left after 30 minutes without buying a single thing!
-
Tell them not to go!
The place is a disgrace, I got taken there once by a taxi driver when I was absolutely out of my mind drunk.
It's basically just full of prostitutes and drunken western tourists who don't know how they ended up there... unless you like that kind of thing!
-
Absolutely fantastic posts guys... Rest assured I will be getting sloshed at each and every one of these venues in the coming weeks
-
Can you elaborate on that CelticBhoy, ie prices and times.
Seeing as there seems to be no more beer buffets around, I think this thread should be modified to good happy hour reccomendations
It is a beer buffet. Jugs of draft Chang.
As much as you like. 1pm-5pm.
About 400 Baht.
Marry me, Sir

Went to Insomnia last friday, was packed, plenty of euros and even spoke to one girl from madagascar ! , ALL of them were on "the game "
I'm hoping for girls who aren't on "the game"
Very rare it seems... (fortunately, or unfortunately - depending on your perspective)

For pre-workout supplements, you can't go past mesomorph. It's absolutely brilliant. While not the cheapest, its effects are unparalleled. Be careful though, I have heard of it (and other pre-workouts) having adverse side effects for those with pre-disposition to anxiety, depression etc..
My paranoia re: these effects generally restricts to me a pre-workout banana, but I had a good couple of months on mesomorph
