Why do Western European handicapped people always have tons of cash? Our welfare systems sure are generous.

Who knows. Maybe Ipswich will become the new Pattaya?

I wonder if you can call those BWM cops to report that your mother-in-law has overstayed her welcome?

Maybe they should try Thai Airwhales next time.

Unbelievable choice of words. I think Thailand is heading for a meltdown.

I'm surprised she wasn't killed in a shoot-out with the RTP.

Hi, I am a bit confused regarding when it is necessary to do a TM30 report.
I am here in Thailand on a short three-week visit. The first week I am staying in a hotel, and before departing Thailand I will be staying a few days in a hotel again. So far, so good. But in between then, I will be staying at my wife's family home in Saraburi.
Do we need to do the TM30 thing, or is that not needed for this kind of visit where I do not intend to extend my stay? If we don't do it, could I get in trouble at Suvarnabhumi immigration when leaving or next time I want to enter Thailand?
Thanks a lot!

In any case, it's just not the same anymore, I think. He doesn't live in Thailand, and the nightlife he writes about is in obvious decline, which he himself acknowledges.

I moved back to Northern Europe three years ago after 11 years in Thailand. I am still trying to figure out whether to stay here or move back to Thailand.
I moved back mainly to try to find a real job, but now I work online, so that is not really a factor anymore.
I tried to make a list of pros and cons of Thailand and my home country and the result was 6-6! So it really is a difficult decision in my case.
While I do appreciate the more civil life here, I still hate the grey weather and high cost of living. I also miss the more simple life in Thailand. People in my country seem to complain about such small issues that pale in comparison with the real problems of this world.
But I certainly don't miss the visa hassle and dirty streets. At least here I can stay forever.
The jury is still out in my case...

The type of job is also a major factor. It would have to be something that is considered as contributing to Thailand in a very positive way.
I wonder how they define that ?

There is a category to apply for permanent residency but all information to apply for it contradicts what is required to apply for an extension of stay for investment under clause 2.5 of the police order.
From clause 2.5 of Police Order 327/2557 basis for extension of stay.
From the criteria and condition for applying for permanent residency. https://www.immigration.go.th/pdf/26122546_regulation_notice_en.pdf
If you did the investment through the Board of Investment (BOI) it might be possible to do it,
Thanks, @ubonjoe. It seems getting a job is the better option ?

I don't know the details, but it is, or was, possible to get a residency permit via investment. I beleive the min is 10m and it must be invested in an approved way. You would need to hold a non immigrant visa and have extended your stay for 3 consecutive years.
Thanks. Yes, this is the option I would like to know if is still available. But I am not sure if it is wise to place such a large amount of money in a Thai bank...
-
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I could not find anything.
If you get an extension of stay based on an investment of 10 million baht (if this option indeed still exists?), can this make you eligible to apply for permanent residence after three years? Or it there no other way than to have work a permit and a certain salary for at least three years in a row?
Thanks.

Yes, it was in the Thai newspapers yesterday. The American is a property developer from San Francisco. They have known each other for 10 years, so it does seem like it is true love

Is it even clear if Sean McAnna is still in Thailand or back home? The last thing I read was that the Thai authorities requested him to stay in Thailand, but I'm not sure if they actually forbid him leaving.
By the way, the Thai press is reporting that another foreigner - a Caucasian male - has been murdered and found in the water near Koh Samet.
-
Now a leading English-language newspaper in Thailand seems to indicate that McAnna is French...
I also find it difficult to believe that these two guys would convey in perfect English that they wanted to see McAnna hanged. Unless he speaks Thai, of course.

Kinda guessing your shouting at the wrong guys.
Its the postal service not the journals fault for certain.

In Bangkok where I live, the magazine is hand delivered by The Economist's chosen distributor, so it is not Thailand Post's fault.
Actually, I begged The Economist to have my magazine delivered by Thailand Post since I have much more confidence in them...

Yes, experienced the same earlier this year. During "good" weeks, it would arrive on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. But mostly it wouldn't arrive at all. And I live in downtown Bangkok. A complete joke.
