Why yes, I think they could. They could for instance abandon their principles and turn their support to a political party committed to corruption, populism, and amnesty for convicted criminals hiding abroad with bundles of loot & delusions of grandeur ('that your definition of "democracy" BTW?).

What principals? They are all corrupt and yes, the vast majority has voted the current clowns in in landslides for the past 18 years. Yes, that is democracy. Work with it ;-)

I arrived BKK airport on Thursday 11am. There were only 6 or 8 immigration officers working and 2 to 3 people in each of the lines! These morons really know how to screw their economy during high season!

I always found it hard to believe this crap actually occurs. Sorry to see I was mistaken.

I totally agree with you. The taxis are supposed to take you to your requested destination. That said, in Thailand poking your head in and talking to the driver gives you the opportunity to asses the situation. I have had some frightening rides from drivers that appear to be high on methamphetamine or some other drug.

Do they have fire fighting equipped helicopters in Thailand? Seems like that would be the ticket.

Tip: use http://www.traveldocs.com/ for all your visa needs. They are terrific! I've used them for multiple visa's on short notice and they get the job done and the passport arrives back via FedEx. Never had a problem. Great service!

Little known fact, prostitution has been completely eradicated in the west. Its not like it's legal in Australia, Germany, Amsterdam, or technically legal in Canada & the UK. In the good moral US of A, its not like walking the strip in Vegas involves having to navigate around hundreds of men handing out "escort cards" or that every city of reasonable size has free magazines/newspapers that advertise "escorts" or offers "happy ending" massage parlors.

Even in Asia, you can't find "beer bars" outside Thailand. Such things don't exist in Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, or the Philippines.

Nope, Thailand and the Dominican Republic are the last places where prostitution is still available.

One word - Can the Thais spell EXPROPRIATE? I think they can. They did it in during the revolution of 1932, although that's being erased from history.

I've visited Thailand for extended periods on vacation many times over the past 6 years. Here's my tips on staying alive -

#1 - Demand seat belts in the taxis. Do not use a taxi without seat belts available. Simply waive them on and let them know why you're are refusing their service. They catch on eventually.

#2 - Find a reliable, regular driver that you can call and require them to go the speed limit, and if they don't fire them. I let our regular driver know that if he speeds or does anything stupid that he will be fired and no more future business. It works. He's an excellent, defense driver while we are in the car.

#3 - Do not ride a motor scooter or bicycle except in the quietest of locations without the idiot Thai drivers on the road.

the prisons in the USA are barbaric and not much different than they were 150 years ago. Really says something about how unenlightened America is compared to Europe. Further, anyone accused and tried in the USA is guilty until proven innocent. Only morons unfamiliar with the system are allowed on the jury so the prosecutors and politically dependent judges can convict most anyone whether they are guilty or not.
