Influenza is a virus .. antibiotics have no effect. They only work with bacterial infections such as food poisoning, blood poisoning and the clap! Don't waste your time trying to tell Thais that though .. they swallow the "red and black" antibiotics by the handfull everytime they get a sniffle.

What is it with the Discos??? .. First in Pattaya .. now in Phuket! Maybe the so called "Swine flu" should be renamed to the "Disco Flu" ... hel_l ! .. lets drag John Travolta out to to design a new "Flu Dance" to compliment it!

I have been traveling to Thailand for more than 25 years and have many Thai friends. Problems? I have never had problems in Thailand. My forefathers did emigrate from the U.S - Germany, Austria, Hungary, Ireland & Scotland - legally. They learned to speak English and assimilated into the American culture. I do intend to "give it a rest" now. I did not engage in calling you hateful words - someone I don't know. Smear words are easy. If you wish to debate subjects, I am willing to do that. Name calling is really a cheap shot.

Mexicans brought the swine flu to the U.S. and it spread throughout the world. What you just learned is that in your arrival card you need to write the visa number you want to use entering the country. When entered, check the stamps before leaving Immigration officer.

Thanks .. I learned that long ago .. I did write the visa number. Unfortunately I slacked off on the second bit .. "checking" .. however .. the Vientiane-Udon Bus was in a hurry ... sooooo.... bugger it !

Anyway .. I'll wait for a couple of more confirmations of "no problem" before I hop on a songtaew to the Cambo border. (I'm in Chanthaburi)

Well this is a strange one!

I recently went to Laos for a new Non Im B Visa for my new job. When I exited Thailand I had a double entry Tourist Visa .. with only 1 entry used. I was to reenter Thailand with the new Non B .. OK? I wasn't worried about losing the 2nd entry of the Tourist visa as I received it for free in Laos 2 months or so ago.

The Problem

This evening I was flicking through my passport to look up a date .. when I suddenly realised I had been stamped in to Thailand for only 60 days ! .. not 90!

A "little light came on" .. I looked at the old double entry Tourist Visa ans sure enough .. it was stamped with the date of my Laos exit with an additional couple of hand written slashes with the word "USED" on it !

The Non B Visa was untouched. The helpful immigration officer entered me into Thailand on the second entry of the Tourist Visa instead of the New Non B !!!!!

My school just submitted the papers for my work permit today! .. but I'm not on a Non B !

The Question (Finally)

Can I do a border hop to Cambodia and return with the unused Non B? .. even though I got it in Laos and have already made an entry into Thailand?

The Non B says " Enter before 20th August 2009" .. well I did .. but on the Tourist Visa .. do I get another chance to use it?????

So! .. what is it then? Tinglish or not? If you speak Tinglish/Thaiglish/Pidgin are you a knob head? Or is it quite OK? As in a previous post I said "as long as information is exchanged" the target is achieved.

I suppose it doesn't really matter unless you are in a situation where you have paying customers who want to learn English. (In a school for example)

No. It doesn't matter. You are 100% correct. If "information" is transfered between two people (language) .. and both parties understand .. then the target has been achieved. Worring about anything beyond that is just pedantics .. go to the "Teachers Forum" for 1000's of examples of analy retentive language/grammar superstars.

Erm .. it was "before" 'and'. Never mind .. as "after" 'and' is wrong too. I can understand why you hated teaching English. I'd hate doing something I was incompentant at too.

Sometimes i speak nid noi pidgeon englsih to thais who havent got good command of English,but not with my my thai gf of 4 years.She speaks good english,khmer and some chinese.

We farangs are just not that important. I looked at the Australian 7-11 site and they didn't have a "Thai toggle" .. funny that!

Basically .. if you couldn't care less about your spouse/gf or whoever improving their English .. then go ahead and speak "pidgin" and sound like a goose. It's not that important. For myself I just speak normally, clearly and depending on the Thai .. a little more slowly.

English is my native language .. why on Earth would I want to speak it as if I was retarded? .. but as I said above .. it's no big deal really .. it won't stop the Earth from revolving.

EXCEPT !! .. For the female South African English teacher in the last school I was working for in Korat .. who constantly spoke Tinglish to her Prathom 2 students. E.g .. "What your name nah?", "Why you no listen me nah?" etc etc .. SHE should be shot!
