All most of us wanted was quiet place to retire obey the laws of the country where we are and no stress or hassles for the the short time we have left.
But it seems that is not to be.
I am scratching my head as to what to do. Lol.

Be aware that it is only required when you extend your Non Imm OA Visa for reason of RETIREMENT.
When you are married, you can extend at the moment of application for reason of MARRIAGE. The requirements are different for such extension and do NOT require health-insurance.
Thank you very much Peter Denis.
Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year.

As thainet says you can do it in the last month of your retirement extension. I suggest that about 6 weeks before that date go to the Immi office that you will use, take your wife with you and get the IO to explain to your wife EXACTLY what they want to see. All offices (should) have the same requirements but some will want extra information as well.
A lot will also depend on how you are funding it, 400,000 baht in the bank or monthly income.
I have attached the tick box that I used and also a Word document that I ended up with which you may find of use to you.
If you need more help please PM me and I will do what I can.

Thank you very much for the info.
Income not a problem.
It not until August. I was hoping that I could have done it earlier
It is the type of insurance that they are pushing that the concern.
Particularly as I and many others don't need to buy it.
We are just giving money away.
I am far from wealthy.

Trying to gain some knowledge for future plans.
My retirement ext.
is August 2020.
Is there anyway I can change to a marriage before August 2020?
-
This is becoming a worry.
Many, many of us will not be accepted by insurance companies.
It is also a concern when those who have the ability to self fund are not accepted.
Is this the way the govt. is saying: Go from Thailand all foreigner.
We don't want you.
Creepy feeling.

Who are the insurance companies that are approved?

I have a disability and I find Thai people very kind and helpful.
The main thing that is starting to aggravate me here in Thai is the inconsistency of Thai immigration in there messy ways.
It must be a Immigration thing,
Immigration in my country are starting show how incompetent they are too.

Not sure how it would work. If you have a existing policy they may be able to adjust your policy date to fit your extension date. I can recall a report of one of the companies being able to that by crediting the last month to the new one.
I think that requirement was meant to be for applying for a new OA visat at a embassy.
I think the change was only meant for applying for visas at a embassy and entry to the country using one issued on or after October 31st. But some how many offices think it is for extensions.
That is what I have been trying to clarify.

Step 1, the known debacle just a from a first hand experience.
My mate walked in to Jomtien today trying to get his yearly extension based on retirement.
Entered on Non O-A in 2010, never left the country.
Just had a video talk with him.
All as expected. Non O-A: no retirement extension without one of these **** Thai health insurances.
He meets all other requirements for extension.
His existing insurance does not interest. No document for signing by insurance company offered (useless anyway).
When he asks what he can do: leave country and get a normal Non-O.
No surprise. All as expected.
Crazy as can be.
He will decide tomorrow whether he will use the offer of some "agent" or do the visa run (his extension ends mid January).
Thank you you very much for your post.
This is very important information.
Myself and others will be interested in how he gets on.
Like to know how he gets on with the agents as well.
I wonder what happened the only those applying for O-A after the 31-19-2019.
Please keep us up to date.

This a big, big worry for many.
Goodluck to everyone and me.
I hope only sensible post come on here because it is so important

PeterDenis,
I agree with you.
Another thing is why should anyone rush away and get married or go the border every 90 days.
I get the horrible feeling that they want us to go onto the Elite Visa.
Even that Visa is badly conceived.
-
Can anyone tell me where to find the information about health insurance for O-A Retirement applications?
-
saengd,
I understand where you are coming with some of the remarks that are made.
I like to think that we are here to help and support each other.
I am following your posts as like you and others I am in the same situation.
Stay with it.
Good luck.

I don't think insurance is required for for extensions of stay. But there some immigration offices that are saying it rs required.
We are still waiting for there to be a official clarification from the immigration bureau.
It has been clarified it is only required when entering the country with OA visa issued after on or after October 361st.
Thank you Joe,
That was my understanding too.

I’ve read a lot online about Canadian health insurance and I’ll pass. Any kind of socialized medicine is going to be lacking in wait times and quality of care. I’ll stick with my employer provided excellent private health insurance, thank you
Aren't you lucky. Not everyone has that choice.

Since Oct 31, 2019 when applying for a new OA Visa in your home-country, you need to meet the health-insurance requirement.
Entering/re-entering Thailand with a pre Oct 31 issued OA Visa of which the Visa validity date has not expired yet, will not require health-insurance.
Entering/re-entering Thailand with a re-entry permit for a non-expired permission to stay based on a pre Oct 31 issued OA Visa will not require health-insurance.
Applying for an extension of stay for reason of RETIREMENT based on an OA - retirement Visa (irrespective when issued) will require health-insurance.
Note: The required health-insurance should be thai-approved to be proved by a Certificate (issued by the insurance company) that it complies with the IO requirements.
If covered by Thai wife's teachers medical insurance, is that accepted?
-
That is what I am asking
-
I agree about having insurance.
But Thailand not owing anything.
Many expats who retire here, get married to a Thai, raise Thai children for there education, feed and cloth.
Build homes
All that money comes from there own countries.
A big win for Thailand.
Think about it
-
I thought health insurance was only required for new O-A retirement applications from one own country.
Not for existing O-A extensions
