  1. Interesting, a Thai girlfriend was blown away when I insisted that the 2 kids and niece should come on holiday with us to the beach. Her deceased phalang husband had never invited them to go away with them. Not only was she blown away but the kids were so excited. I'm a solo dad with 2 grown up children that I brought up since they were 4 and 7, so it was no big deal but a 15 year old hugging me spontaneously and the look of amazement as they rode a horse for the first time or got dragged around behind a jet ski made the holiday so much more significant. Not to mention the endless happy photos. What was the cost. Probably $200 or 300 Oz extra and that included a niece and 2 20 something cousins. I estimated feeding 6 people cost me less than $15 to 20 Oz a meal. Christ I give my sons $100s to get through uni.

  2. Just a few thoughts. Just came back from a trip to Thailand where I contacted a girl I had met in a bar in HK. Now, she interested me cos she never charged me anything but used to take off occasionally. I assumed bar girl although she always denied it. Anyway, She drove 3 hours to pick me up and we had a great 10 days together with the family (kids etc). She had been married to a phalang who had died several years before, had a brand new car, a 3 or 4 million house, land, some limited income etc etc. The place was like a shrine. She wouldn't have anything to do with Thail guys as she reckoned they just wanted to live off her etc. So work that one out. I think she probably needs cash flow but god who doesn't. Another girl who told me she was working as a b/g lived nearby with a Thai Policeman who seemed to turn a blind eye assuming he knew - surely he must have. Go figure, mind you he was certainly living in style and she was stunning. I don't worry too much as all the Thai girls I have met have treated me well and been great. I don't really have that much anyway but it kind of puzzles me. There is a group of girls who make good money doing the rounds of Europe and Asia and wouldn't be seen dead turning tricks in Thailand. Often to supplement businesses, build houses, buy cars, jewels, support private education etc etc. Bit like the stories you hear of Ozzie and European students paying for their education on the game. And like she said, things have changed, girls just like Phalangs. Maybe the culture is adapting. Must admit I was carted around a fair bit like a prime piece of beef. I only go out with Thai girls 30 plus. I prefer that. I would feel stupid with a girl of 20 though I'm not knocking it!

  3. Hi

I'm in Hong Kong and I've seen her yakking to the locals. Can't swear she is fluent but it sounds pretty good and she says she is. I assume it's Cantonese cos that's what they talk here! Seriously, has a sister married to a Chinese in Macau. Also she isn't hanging out in Bangkok. ta ra

  4. Just wondered if anyone has any experience of this. I met a Thai Chinese girl who is charming and smart. Fluent Cantonese, Thai and English. She just seems a bit less flaky than pure Thai. Much as I love pure Thai. Just got a bit of an edge. Any thoughts.

  5. Doing nothing in Issan. Feeling I am busy doing nothing in Issan. Being draged around the village by the kids. Farong this... Farong that... Being dragged off to demonstrate my Thai dancing on every and any occasion. The endless neighbours. Laos whiskey at 6 am. Cheap beer. Sticky rice. All you can eat reastaurants for 70 baht. Sharing the back of a ute with 15 other people. Grandma. Buying whitegoods for the folks. Giving everything away cos I never really wanted them anyway. Thai Bar girls whose chatter keeps me sane and insane simultaneously. Knowing my girlfriend will cut my throat if i ever lie or take them home. Having zero interest in white women. Never being bored. Letting Buddha sort everything out. Fishing in the ponds. Thai Beer.....

  6. Just thought I would add something. I live in Hong Kong. There are hundreds of people here who would love to live in Thailand but don't! Maybe you should look more closely at Hong Kong, Singapore, Macau, etc etc. Its only $2000-3000 HK to get to the land of smiles and your living in a place that is designed for making money.as opposed to a place that is designed for spending dosh. You could invest your money and / or work (not that that is as easy as it used to be), educate your kids, be in the West and East - not to be underestimated! and go to Thailand, Vietnam, Loas, Cambodia etc as often as you want. ###### you haven't even seen Vietnam yet:) I'm a newbie but your almost virginal:) Take your time. You're not even married to a Thai - you'll get crucified!

  7. This could be clasified as my stupid tourist error! My Thai girlfriend and I (living in Hong Kong) bought her 17 year old son a 125 motorbike to get to school around Roi Et. Two weeks later he was killed in a head on collision with a car. I guess I just mention it to remind everyone how horribly dangerous Thailand is particularly on a motorbike. On returning to Bangkok following the funeral I walked on to the scene of another fatal motorbike accident. Just cos everyone has one doesn't make it smart.
