  1. thank you all for the feedback and information. greatly appreciated.  im a vietnam veteran, with 100percent rating and made arrangements with bangkok hospital chiang mai where they will send the bill to veterans administration usa. going into this i was a little naive but during the last 3 weeks with all your help i greatly educated myself.   again thank you all have a good day

  2. had sinet in sansai, good; had si net in sarapii, good; but expensive 1290b per month fiber optic and they always have the sad tale about having to run the line into the mooban from 5,000baht up. Moving to doi saket in october, and true move gave me a promotion deal platinum all the channels 2584b and 50mb download cable internet for a combined package of 2990b per month including a free 450mb sim card my wife used for ipad. ture move no more dish only cable now.

  3. This age thing people need to get over it and think of any marriage as what it is two people who at the point of marriage love each other age does not enter into it. A state of mind if your fit enough and healthy what is the problem. Yes sure there are those who will always say bah humbug and it's only for your money. Money now there's a point I wonder if I bought one of these people who say for your money drinks all day every day he would say he is only drinking with you for your money?????? Anyway I'm a ferang married to a lovely Issan lady with 21 years age difference we are happy we are in love with each other and we respect each others values and cultures. I would say that is as good a marriage as anything in the so called normal range

well it is most likely that's it's your opinion. You can never be sure that she truly loves you. You should know Thai women well enough to know that they lie for many reasons. Lol

dont project your experiences onto everyone else, just because you got screwed doesn't mean everyone else is going to get screwed,

  4. why the focus on the old guys, 95 percent of the men who travel to thailand are 40 years and below, the thing is with the 40 and below unless they inherited the old mom and dad inheritance they dont have no money or only enough for a 2 week sex junket, or they have to get a teaching job for 10,000baht per month, and all the thai girls dont trust young men because they only want boom boom and they butterfly. So if you are posting on here and you are a young man dont be jealous of the old men who got it going on, focus on your own cheeeeep charlie (kenow) selves. ha ha have a good day kenow farang.

  5. I'm a 56 years old foreigner living in the middle of Isaan with my 21 years old Thai lady. She doesn't ask for money. Her mother and father don't ask for money. She has NEVER been a prostitute. I have NOT bought land and built a house og given the lady a ton of gold. Actually no gold at all. Not even an IPhone. What other people say about that I just give a sh.....

Good for you. Who pays for the rent and food ? Who pays electricity bills and phone ? Medical bills ? Etc etc etc ?

Who pays all those things in a EU/USA household out in the sticks?

Who pays for the rent and food ? Who pays electricity bills and phone ? Medical bills ? Etc etc etc ?

Who pays for the rent and food ? Who pays electricity bills and phone ? Medical bills ? Etc etc etc , for the fat, old wife that you left behind in your home country? or are you a superstud, macho man that all the women kissed your ass and paid to be in your company?

  6. Expatitis in Thailand, Is Your Glass Half Empty or Half Full..

Many of the Westerners who come to Thailand to live and work come here with unrealistic expectations. Many have been here on holiday and expect that life in Thailand will be totally free of frowns. Most often they are in for a rude awakening and that awakening often turns them into cynical, bitter, angry whiners who see themselves as victims. They are miserable and they frequently make others miserable. The reason for this is that they acquired a disease I will call Expatitis and any depression or problems they tried to escape are exacerbated.

The primary symptom of this problem is unhappiness, which usually manifests itself in extreme and irrational anger and often depression. In addition to the very frequent use of swear words in association with Thailand or Thai people, the person uses the following kinds of words very frequently: cheat, lie, steal, irresponsible, stupid, backward, lazy and corrupt. Sarcasm is an often-used tool as is mocking Thais as well as expats who like Thailand.

Finally, these bitter, sad expats rejoice in problems or difficulties that Thailand or Thai people experience. They actually want Thailand to be corrupt or in an economic downturn or experience other problems. Then the expat can laugh a bitter angry laugh and say, “See, just what I told you.”

If you haven’t moved to Thailand yet, understand quite clearly that Thailand is a place and like any place it has its share of problems. Those problems and the solutions to them are usually different to the problems and solutions in their home country.

If you are already here, try to hang out with positive people; those who are happy and enjoy living in Thailand. Good supportive, non-negative, non-Thai bashing friends can make a big difference.

The mind-body connection can help you too. Smile and walk in a happy way and you can lift yourself up. Think positively and your face and body will reflect that happiness. Fake it until you make it.

Avoid negative people. Negativity is a contagious disease. Also avoid druggies, drunks and people who are always broke. Most often those kinds of people are fellow expats. Be extremely careful with them – whether they are the professional type or the barfly. Most of the problems people have experienced in Thailand came from expats – not Thais.

Find people you can talk with about assorted problems without whining. Joking about problems is not the same thing as bitterly accusing an entire country of something bad. I’ve got friends at work – both Thai and expat – who I joke with about students being late, Thai road etiquette, corruption or whatever else is on my mind. That’s a far cry from saying “They’re all a bunch of liars and cheaters.”

If you already suffer from the idea that Thailand and Thai people have victimized you and you are a whining machine, there is only one possible cure. Go back where you came from. Maybe then you will realize what a great place Thailand is and be able to come back and be happy. On the other hand, maybe you were an unhappy person burdened by one problem after another in your own country before you came to Thailand. In that case, seek counseling.

  7. Well somewhat of a no brainer, it is not rocket science, more like a business arrangement. Myself I like shiny cars and 60 inch TV's and of course they are not free so I duh, I have to pay money for these things. Of course out of 5 marriages wives 2 and 3 had money but since I got into my 60,s no women want to support me anymore, ha ha. I love these deep intellectual posts about why old man and young girl hook up in Thailand. Hoorah for you geniuses!!!!

  8. Thank David, Nancy, VFW, Ex Pats, Rotary, and everyone that dedicated their time and energy to make this 4th July a success, hope everyone has a good time. Even the negative TV septuagenarians that wont leave their room because they cannot stay away from complaining on TV.

  9. An old man, a boy and a donkey and the 4th of July celebration,

An old man, a boy and a donkey were going to town. The boy rode on the donkey and the old man walked.

As they went along they passed some people who remarked: "What a shame, the old man is walking and the boy is riding."

The man and boy thought maybe the critics were right, so they changed positions.

Later they passed some people who remarked: "What a shame, he makes that little boy walk." So they then decided they'd both walk!

Soon they passed some more people who remarked "They're really stupid to walk when they have a decent donkey to ride."

So, they both rode the donkey.

Now they passed some people who shamed them by saying: "How awful to put such a load on a poor donkey."

The boy and the man figured they were probably right, so they decide to carry the donkey.

As they crossed the bridge, they lost their grip on the donkey and he fell into the river and drowned.

    The moral of the story?

If you try to please everyone, you might as well kiss your ass goodbye!

    Have A Nice Day!

Did you not see that I said “not make a business rivalry”?? Anyway I am not in business here, have any interest to nor have I ever suggested I want to be.

“With your background in the industry and economics does it not make a difference when you give a 1,000 baht seat away for nothing?”

If in fact there is limited seating a 3 yr old can share a seat with a parent if their discount stipulates but as there is a large garden area it probably won't be necessary.

“With all due respect where are these other events. I may be wrong but if they are put on by a business would not making money be there first concern before making it a family affair.”

Since the hosts states “I might get tired of subsidizing this event “ according to him it’s not a venture for making money so no that is not.

Also it is advertised as “A destination for friends and family to get together and share”.

Along with what I already mentioned.

    “Do the math here”

Don’t have to do the math as others have already pointed out some of the flaws in your arithmetic such as costs should be figured in real costs.

For example, evenstevens asked (which you didn’t answer) “god stone the crows, 2 amercian craft beers at 200 baht a pop, say it is your wholesale price , as it is in your costs breakdown”

As for the service fee, I figure it was 30,000 bht so without even knowing how many staff or if it’s in addition to the wages, that’s extremely generous.

Security 15,0000 bht, not disputing the figure but would be interested to know how it breaks down too.

northernjohn mentions me in this post “Or better still don't attack the host because he is going to make a profit. Ask JC he is an expert in the field how much is a fair profit and how much will Dave make after all the freebees.”

As for fair profit it all depends on what your goal is, maximize profits or do something to support your home away from home local community and customers? I’d like to point out that previously Dave said “I'd love to not lose money for 1 year” so the answer might be he will be making nothing. As for “after all the freebies” that adults are paying 1200 bht ea. (the Free dictionary by Farlex on the internet (see what I did there smile.png ) defines Freebie as “something provided without charge”)

I do want to conclude that I did enjoy the 4th of July party I went to at The River Market (even it I’m not exactly sure what year it was) and planned on coming again to this years.

My OP in this thread (post #4)

“Anybody know if they are charging for very young kids, kindergarten age?” which I was referring to my just turned 3 yrs. old kindergarten boy was just a simple question that I thought not only of myself but other’s might be interested in knowing.

Appleton: As the flyer on the first page states, kids' tickets are 1/2 price.

Yes but it doesn’t say what is considered a kid, would a mother with twin 3 mnt olds pay 1200 for them alone?

Maybe even more parents would attend if they knew too depending on the answer. Meant to be harmless, wasn’t any reflection on the ticket price or implication that it was too expensive for what was listed on the ad you get for it.

My Mother taught me “It never hurts to ask”.

After reading this crap for numerous days, and yes thank you for all the experts, complainers and whiners I have only concluded that you have a sense of entitlement and ego's that no one satisfy, and all you great talkers what are you doing, yes. I see you still just talking and not doing nothing, that is why a lot of good folks think that this forum is for the secluded and frustrated many individuals that post on here and you sit at your little computers all day and just talk and talk and talk and not do nothing. Is thaivisa the only place that you have a captive audience? Will other people give you the time of day to listen to your whining?

Yes when you do have one of these events I will support you by buying at 1200baht ticket to set at your VIP table, put up or shut up all you geniuses and leave the people alone who are trying to so something here in chiang mai other than running their mouths and doing zilch. Lets put it this way, if I put this on I would charge 1200-1500baht to keep out the rifraff and compensate me for having to listen to whiners and complainers and geniuses that all they do is talk, talk, talk, talk, etc.. Have a nice day and git away from your secluded little room and go out and get some sun and get a life and let David live his.

I want to apologize for saying: "that is why a lot of good folks think that this forum is for the secluded and frustrated many individuals that post on here and you sit at your little computers all day and just talk and talk and talk and not do nothing. I can see from the number of posts next to your TV NAME that this is the only life you have, I really feel a lot of you would be lost without thaivisa, sorry if I offended anyone!!!!!!!

Saying all this once didn't embarrass you enough, so you had to say it twice?

When I stated that I didn't feel like spending 2,400 baht for two hamburgers, a couple of soft drinks, and perhaps a hot dog, it wasn't a whine. It wasn't a complaint. It was a statement. I was not complaining about the cost, but simply stating that we didn't feel it was of value to us as a family. David recognized that several people were making such statements and apologized for mistaking them for complaints, realizing that we weren't attacking him, nor attacking the party. We just didn't want to spend our money that way. So why are you so defensive that you need to call people names, and denigrate them TWICE with your posts?

wow, really set you off, who is getting defensive?

  13. Anyone who seriously thinks this event can be done for 300 baht, should have been at the 300 baht event at the Sports Stadium. Doesn't anyone remember it? It was an absolute disaster! The place was flooded with every cheap charlie of all nationalities who came for an all-you-can-eat Duke's buffet, W-A-Y more people than expected, difficult to find a wobbly chair at dirty tables in hot tents. Then everyone complained because they had to wait in line for over an hour for food and another long line for beer, much of which was warm. The band was too loud and bad. The games pathetic and don't get me started about the toilets!

To seriously think that this type of event can be done for 300 baht is pure fantasy.

If you've enjoyed similar civic events at a public park in the U.S. with fireworks and community bands, then remember your local government is footing the bill for both. That's not happening here.

I've been to every July 4th event at River Market and found them to be well-organized, great fun. Good bands and other entertainment, games for the entire family, amazing food, beer from the U.S., beautiful setting along the river, watching the kids having fun, comfortable tables in the shade with fans, good toilets. Fun from 3 pm until late. One of my favorite days of the year. Overall a very good value. Especially for members of CM Expats Club and VFW who can purchase discounted tickets in advance.

thanks nancy are you the only one that can speak common sense

  14. Personally I'm tired of the whole event and would be glad to be able to take the day off.

    Dave

If that is the way you feel, I will give it a pass in a small effort to lighten your load.

Come on folks give Dave a break and do not go.

Dave you do a good job and a lot of people have a lot of fun, don't pay attention to the jealous whiners and complainers, they just want someone to feel sorry for them and they like being victims. Out of all the complainers on here count them, maybe ten out of all the people in chiang mai we get 10 habitual complainers, but then they do complain about everything in chiang mai, ha ha

  15. As difficult as it may seem for some of you good folks, one of the ways a place like the RIVER MARKET keeps its doors open is that it has to charge for its services since they "RIVER MARKET" have to buy the food, pay the employees, the electric, the water, the band, the cost of fireworks, etc...,

If you good folks attended this event in your home country, especially the USA, would you get an event that included all you can eat, a live band all day, kids games, fireworks and the ambience of a venue like the ping river for about less than $30 dollars, i dont think so?

Yes I know, too bad we just can't do these for free. I have been involved in the 4th July events for the 6+ years I have lived here and not one time did any of the whiners and complainers ever offer up an alternative event that was for free, and yes in 2010 we did do it almost for free, (300b for all the above and they still whined and complained) about that venue.

So all you economic refugees out there be advised this is the only party in town unless you want to start your own, and yes if you do fireworks you do have to get permits which is a lot more than you would spend at this year's event. You all have a nice day, hope to see you on the 4th July. Stay steady, get a grip on reality, and maybe take some economic courses on how not to bankrupt a business by doing things for free.

My bosses will probably fire me but I feel better that I said this!!!!!! ha ha

As for the economics, wages, rent, food costs, liquor licenses (which can easily go for $1,000,000 in the USA) etc etc are not the same as here so your example is invalid.

I hold a degrees in Economics and the Culinary Arts both from respected institutions in America and owned successful restaurants for 25 yrs so thanks for your ill informed advice with a side of sarcasm.

But what I wanted to mention as I feel this post might be pointed towards me is that I was talking about 2 and 3 yrs old, as I said in post #5, not 5 and 6 yr old's but the response might be the same which I'm fine with which I also previously mentioned.

I enjoyed the 2010 event more then one at River Market as I found it more casual and family oriented and didn't spend half the time waiting at a crowed bar with no bartender to get my pre-paid for drinks.

btw There has been alternative events offered up but with the limited number of Americans and I feel that community on the whole wanted to spend the day celebrating together (not make it a business rivalry) so it is a shame that it's not really possible for many families anymore to attend, that's more the point.

dam, with your knowledge you could put everyone out of business, i cant wait to come to your event, can i sit in the vip section????

My bosses will probably fire me but I feel better that I said this!!!!!! ha ha
