Thanks Joe for your quick response, and for supplying the necessary form - much appreciated.

I understand from your answer Joe, that I can also do this on a visa exemption, its just a different TM form, correct?

I also wonder if I have to go to the Bangkok immigration, or it they do this service in Jomtien/Pattaya also?

  2. This is easy.

Your prepaid SIM validity is maximum 365 days.

If it is still valid you can extend the validity with 30/90/180 days.

(I think the price for extending is in the area of 3-7 baht for every 30 days.)

Turn on the phone wherever you are in the world. (I do this from my Telenor network in Norway. Telenor is the majority owner of DTac, so I cant guarantee that this works all over the world)

call: *113*180# (the 180 is for 180 days extention)

To check the validity of your SIM you call: *101*9#

If you run out of credit to pay for the extention you must log in to MyDtac on dtac.co.th.

(you must have your phone on to recieve the login code on SMS.)

There you can Top Up your SIM using a credit card.

    What banks do that?

In my experience Kasikorn does the aggregation, but I don't think Bangkok Bank or SCB does.

    But maybe that's changed.

Immigration may be correct that they need to see more documentation if the book you show them doesn't show definitively that your balance was properly seasoned for every single day in the seasoning period.

My bank (3 pages aggregate) is Kasikorn. My friends (statement "mirror" of bankbook) is Bangkok bank. I can understand the request in my case, since I was "balancing" on the 800.000 mark, but my friend was never below 1.100.000, but he had no transactions  for 3 weeks when he went home for Christmas. We visited immigration 1 day apart, and had different officers handling the papers.

  4. This is now ridiculous. Because of the banks aggregation of deposits/withdrawals into 1 printed line in your bankbook the immigration at Jomtien now demands a separate attested statement from the bank, showing every movement the last 3 months. According to the bank the only way to avoid this aggregation is to update your bankbook once a week.

We were 2 people that experienced this the last week. My statement was 3 full pages, but my friend’s statement was a “mirror” of what was printed in his bankbook.

The bank letter only states the balance of the account at the time the letter is printed, with no info about balance the last 3 months.

Please, Thai immigration, modernize the rules. Ask for a statement for 3 months attested by the bank, and skip the “Bank letter”, and the copy of the pages in the bankbook. This will make everything easier for everyone. The bank letter costs 100 baht, and the bank statement costs 100 baht. Go for the one that gives the best information (the bank statement).

The reason why this now is a problem is probably because the banks are modernizing, and want to save on bankbooks by reducing the printing. (Until they remove the bankbooks completely, which happened in my country in the early 1980’s.)

  5. We will see more of this.

With the sharp drop in the norwegian currency, will the ones that live on minimum benefits/pension from Norway, now only receive 65.500,- baht a month from the Norwegian goverment. Since they also introduced a flat tax of 15% for norwegians living abroad many are struggeling.

More norwegians now have to marry thai women, and adopt their kids to get additions to the minimum pension.

Their other option is to lend from their friends, and get stabbed in the head. wink.png

  6. I am really disappointed with Doksets father.

He used to be the Norwegian phone company, Telenors Asia manager. Based in Thailand, with DTAC as their biggest investment. You should think he would have enough connections to get his useless son off this with a few million baht payout.

He is old now, so that must e the reason he cant help his useless son.

  7. typical of what we can expect here, save face, they beat the crap out of the child or allow it to happen and then do not want anyone to know how pathetic and low down they are when they are caught. How in the hell can we expect this country to become part of the 20th century when they continually do this sort of crap, name them and shame them, they deserve it in spades and remove the little girl from the mothers custody as she is obviously unfit to be a mother

...well I think the problem is they still live in the 20th century. You should hope they would join the rest of us in the 21th century.

  8. I did my 90 days reporting this week.

I went to immigration, got a number, and the form at the desk at the entrance.

I filled out the form, and went up to the 90-days reporting desk to check if it was my turn.

I was asked to sit down, and the officer took my passport and the form that I had in my hand.

As I was going to take out my document copies from my bag, the officer stopped me and said no need for more documents.

The officer did the work, and handed me back my passport. That was it.

Don't you need documentation any more? Do you just have to show up with passport and form, or was it just a friendly/(lazy) officer that took a shortcut?

  9. I want to know this too, I believe if you show tickets in and out of Thailand they will give you one.

I need to know how many tickets are required and what time period?

I have done this twice, but not since early 2012.

1.st time I had my return ticket to Thailand, and my next return ticket out of, and in to Thailand again. Got the 2 entries without any questions asked.

2.nd time I had my return ticket, but for next trip just a ticket BKK - Naratiwat, and return Hat Yai - BKK. But I also had a hotel booking in Kota Bahru. At first the refused 2.nd entry, but after a short explanation from me about the easiest way to travel Bangkok - Kota Bahru, they gave me the 2 entries.

I would guess the way to do it is to have your return ticket, and your next roundtrip ticket to be safe.

Both times the application was back to back of a triple entry Tourist Visa from my home country securing the last 4 months of a 9 months total stay in Thailand.

  10. Shocking..He wants to receive the university education that he denied his young victims...He is just gloating...

I don't believe this, first u must have a abiture or collage degree to go to university or not, this guy should be but down the same as he killed this 77 people on that day,..... Just get reed of this evil being

He has already taken exams in prison to improve his score for application to the university.

Would think he have made sure to have the necessary credits needed to get accepted.

They are probably searching everything to try to stop him, but the politicians might have to intervene if they want to stop his plans.

  11. I had arrived Thailand on a 30 days Visa exempt, and I am over 50 years old. I wanted to convert to a Non-Immigrant 90 days Visa, and get a retirement extention for 1 year. I also wanted 2 residency certificates for getting Thai driver licenses for car and motorbike.

I went by the week before to pick up the forms (TM 8.7, TM 7, and form for residency certificate). I was told that it would be a 2 step process, first the Visa, and retirement extention, and after that the residency certificates.

I started the day at 09:00 at my bank, and got the bank letter confirming the 800.000 THB in the bank, and I also updated my bank passbook.

Then I stopped at a copy shop. 3 copies of the passport picture page, and of the TM 6 and entry stamp. Also 3 copies of my receipt from my hotel for rent paid (for 3 months). 2 copies of the bank passbook name and account information page, and the same of the transactions for the last 3 months.

Also a copy of the bank letter. I had of course already filled out all the forms at home, and I had the 5 pictures needed.

I arrived about 10:15, and since it was the day before the Kings birthday it was really crowded, with the office closed the next day.

At the information/numbers counter it was chaos, and I heard people that had a lot of questions being told to come back in 2 days, or a week later. They also checked the applications before the handed out the numbers.

I just hold up the 2 prefilled applications forms, with a lot of copies behind, and asked for a number to non/imm./retirement. I got my number without any further questions.

A short hour later my number was up. I handed in the forms (TM 8.7 and TM 7), and 2 copies of all the copies mentioned earlier (1 being the original bank letter).

They checked all the documents, and collected 1900 + 2000 baht, and I was told to move to the next row to wait for the imm. Officer there. When my turn came up I asked if it would be possible to apply for the residency certificates the same day, since I was told that pick-up time for the Visa (and retirement extention) was 15:00.

He smiled, gave me my passport, and told me to get a number for the residency cert. queue, and take a copy of the visa, and then come back to him with the passport.

To my surprise the Visa, and retirement extention already was stamped in my passport. I did as I was told, but here I maybe did a small error. I probably should not have given back my passport to the visa officer before I had actually visited the residency cert. desk, because at the residency cert. desk they wanted my passport, not just the copies, and told me to come back after 15:00 when I had my passport back.

They gave me a "no queue" ticket, so I would not have to wait again.

I then had a 3 hour break from the office.

Back at 15:00, I got my passport with the Visa, and I jumped the queue at the residency cert. desk. Handed in application form, 3 pictures, and 1 of each passport copy + receipt from hotel, and paid 200 + 200 baht.

I was told to return 2 days later since the next day, as I told earlier, was a holiday. I asked them if it was OK that I returned 9 days later, since I would be very busy the next days.

They then asked me if it would be OK to return in 30 minutes instead, which I of course confirmed would be just perfect. At 15:30 I collected the 2 residency certificates, and left wishing everybody a good holiday.

Out the door with a Visa until March 4, 2014.

My experience was that everybody was very efficient, and very pleasant to deal with. I am especially impressed that the people working at the information/numbers counter could remain so calm and pleasant as they were at a day with such a pressure from numerous customers.

    In whole a positive experience.

  12. DMK - BKK - Pattaya.

The plane landed, and opened the door at DMK 10:58.

Longest immigration lines for ASEAN passports. Foreigner and Thai about the same lines (all short), but Thai of course quicker.

No luggage, entered the bus (free airport shuttle) 11:13. 18 passengers, no ticket shown, bus left 11:22.

    Arrived at BKK 12:08.

Extra Jomtien bus 12:30, 134 baht. Exit bus Pattaya Klang 13:58.

3 hours from exit plane plane to Pattaya with 2 buses, but I guess a taxi would have saved me almost an hour (but of course 1000 bath more)

  13. Another possible version of the story:

Fell in love and got a child.

Met the family, and wanted a better life also for them.

Knew that the money would not last for ever, so made this plan.

    1) Set up MIL for a nice life in Thailand.

    2) Live with family until money runs out.

    3) Move back to Germany with family.

    4) Work for him and wife, and education for son.

    5) When they retire move back to house in Thailand.

...well plan failed, but may not have sounded to stupid to him initially.

  14. Thanks guys for your info.

Indeed my question was about converting a tourist visa into Retirement, here in Chiang Mai.

As I understand from your posts no medical certificate is needed.

I plan to apply in 2-3 weeks. Will keep you posted.

    Yossi

You will be doing a "two-step" process.

Step 1 is change of visa status from tourist to O visa.

Step 2 is application for annual extension based on retirement.

These are often done the same day if prepared and qualified.

You will not be receiving a retirement visa, technically speaking, but the REASON you are qualified for the change of visa status to O is your qualification for the annual extension based on retirement.

    Again, no medical form needed.

Is the same process possible if I don't have a tourist visa in "Step 1", but just a 30 days visa exempt?

  15. It looks like he will be sentenced to 21 years, of which he has to serve a minimum of 10 before he can apply for a early release.

But if he still is concidered dangerous the 21 years sentence can be extended.

He currently serve the sentence in a 3 room cell. A bedroom, a workroom with computer, and a excersise room. Pictures here: http://www.ba.no/nyh...icle6203546.ece

But the plans are ready for building a new high security cell at US$ 4.200.000,- if he get sentenced.
