  1. I use TOT in Banglamung and run at full speed most of the time.

Always FIRST check your ADSL / telephone line and your connections, is it green because of water, how is the telephone line quality, cracks / noise etc etc

Make sure your line is as good as it can get!

DUmeter doesn't help you as this only shows you incoming / outgoing data.

If you want to see what goes in / out I recommend BitMeter as this is free http://codebox.org.uk/pages/home

  2. From Microsoft:

The most fundamental difference between the Professional edition and Home Edition is that only Professional can join a network domain. A computer running Home Edition can be a member of a workgroup (a home network), but not a domain. This distinction may sound trivial, but it's important if you need the features available to computers that can join a domain.

For example, many people travel as part of their work or need to work from home, whether on a regular basis or as the need arises. If that applies to you, connecting to your computer at the office becomes essential—to check email and work with documents. To make such a link, you can establish a virtual private network (VPN) connection or a regular dial–up connection. However, you'll need Windows XP Professional edition to achieve a secure logon and without a secure logon, you can't be an authenticated user.

What does this mean in real life? It means that with Home Edition, you can definitely connect to the network at your job, but it's a whole lot harder to make that connection actually useful. The network administrator will have to arrange a set of permissions to give you access to what you need. Even then, many little problems can emerge. For example, you may find that you can read your email and even send mail to others in your company, but may find it impossible to respond to email from people outside that network.

  3. Make sure your telephone / ADSL line is ok.

I had problems at home as well and found out that my ADSL connector was green because of water.

Changed the connector and now my line is working properly again - can't solve that with software!

Yes with software you can 'tweak' a few network settings but you won't see that back in speed

  4. World Inn, Sukhumvit Soi 7/1

Clean, free internet (network key = 9999999999) and Subway around the corner (open 24x7). Per night TB 800 and that is not expensive in my opinion!

    Bus Pattaya => Ekkemai = TB 113 / BTS => Ekkemai => Nana TB 25

  5. BB1950,

Thanks for your answer, but when I look at my own question I understand your answer and questions.

    Let me rephrase it:

As a member of the BHHB (Bangkok Hash House Bikers - see http://www.bangkokbikehash.org) I look for a resort / hotel with the following details:

    - located about 2-3 hours from Bangkok so in one of the following privinces : Cha Choeng Sao / Chonburi / Prachin Buri / Nakhon Nayok / Pathum Thani / Ayutthaya / Nakhom Pathom / Ratchaburi / Kanchanaburi / Suphan Buri

    - can handle groups up to 100 - 120 people, rooms about TB 1.500 max per night and about 50 or 60 rooms

    - located on the outskirts of a village / town so within a few minutes we are in the forest / pineapple fields / palm trees / rubber trees / palm oil trees / sand hills and mountains

    - want to book the rooms Friday and Saturday

    Any recommendations??

    Thanks for all your help.

    Cheers,

    M.

  6. Dear all,

I look for resorts in Thailand ( about 2-3 hours driving from Bangkok) who can handle more than 100 people at the same time.

Most resorts I found only have a few rooms but I look for resorts with about 50 - 60 rooms which I can book for a long weekend.

    Any ideas / recommendations?

    Thanks,

    M.

  7. Hello,

I want to move from electric cooking to gas to save on my electric bill.

Just went to a small shop who sells Starwel (Italian brand) but can't find any information about that on Internet.

I would like to have two burners, a small one and one big one.

    Any recommendations?

    Cheers,

    Marcel

PS after my purchase I will post it for future reference

  8. Dear all,

Last year (June 2009) I resigned from my job and went back to Europe for a Non-Immigrant-O visa (valid till July 6th 2010) with multiple re-entry as I have a Thai girlfriend and a two year old son. I did my visa run to Cambodia on September 30th 2009, December 23rd 2009, March 19th 2010 and the next visa run will be on June 16th 2010. I went to immigration in Pattaya and asked if it was possible to stay another year if I put TB 400.000 / TB 800.000 in my bank account (before May 16th 2010) so Sepetember 16th 2010 when my visa is expired I don't have to go back to Europe. I can show now that I have Tb 400.000 / TB 800.000 in my Thai bank account for more that 4 months. Immigration told me that I had to go back to Europe again to get a new Non-Immigrant-O visa as 1) I am not over 50 so no retirement visa 2) I am not married and 3) I have no work permit. Other people tell me to put TB 400.000 / TB 800.000 in my bank account to get a extension of one more year as I have a son so NOT necessary to go back to Europe again.

    Who is right?

Thanks for all your help / advise.
