Can anyone tell me when your wife get to UKBA what they need to look at? Do I need to take my application folders with me?? my husband ask them yesterday (when he got back to UK at LHR), and they said just need TB certificate (original) and my husband contact detail, so I can leave my application at home in Thailand, right?, pls any more detail?? I'm going to travel tomorrow

Yes, all you will need is the TB certificate, you will have your husbands contact details anyway, they might want to speak to him but that is rare, they might just need to be satisfied that you are going to the place specified in the application.

You need to remember that the person who issued the visa was an ECO, an Entry Clearance Officer, and that's exactly what they did, clear you for entry on the evidence you provided, for that reason you do not need to have your applications readily available. The Immigration Officer at LHR will probably ask a few questions and if they think there has been a material change they can refuse entry but that is very rare indeed, and even then they have to convince a Chief Immigration Officer who will then check with Bangkok.

In short, nothing to worry about, just have the TB certificate, the contact details, enjoy your flight and look forward to your new life.

Just a quick question, when they say that the visa is ready to pick up will my son be able to pick it up for his wife...it is a 10hr train journey for him her & baby it would be much easier for him to collect it himself.

Yes, he, or anybody else, can collect the package.

As you say she needs to provide a letter, in Thai or English, giving permission for it to be picked up, together with the receipt and signed copy of the ID or passport of the person authorised to collect.

It actually advises how to do this on the receipt.

We're now at 12 weeks, my husband phoned the embassy today, and they said they're dealing with the middle of April applications, and mines gonna be next month, hopefully!!

My son spoke to someone this morning at Embassy and they said that they havn't even started on his application but they would this week...15 weeks on Wednesday

Unbelieveable to hear something like that, I did sent a fax to the embassy this morning. Do you have direct number to them?? I'd like to see did they get my fax or not

People I know on another Thai-site, who submited for non-settlement visas, they've got the visa already, like someone submited on 3/7 granted 15/7, 30/6 granted 6/7, especially in April, they got it and now they're already in the UK, what concerns me is it seems like they're only dealing with non settlement visas and have stopped settlement visas looking at the list, that's not fair :D 12 weeks for me next week

My name is Suzy and I'm very new to this forum. This year August we are going to Thailand For 9 nights. We decided to stay 5 in Bangkok at 4 in Phuket. If anyone finds a while would be very appreciated to hear about some good but not to expensive hotels in Bangkok of course in shopping center, I mean so that we don't have to use taxis so much... and don't have to walk like hours. Maybe you have checked out some hotels which you can recommend ?!

Oh... and maybe you do know some good web sites where we can book hotels, as far as I looked I found booking dott com as a very good site, is it?

Hi Suzy, Having looked at many hotels and areas in BKK I would recommend the Astera Sathorn on South Sathorn Road, www.asterasathorn.com, great location, cooler than most areas as is very close to river, very clean, friendly, nice swimming pool, gym, steam, sauna, room service with good thai food, down the street towards the Saphan Taksin BTS 2min walk it has good thai street food in a shop (she cooks on the street, but you sit inside, menu with english, you can also takeaway, each dish about 30-40Bht), hairdressers, barbers, laundry which is cheaper than the hotel.

Also 2 mins to the following: BTS Saphan Taksin (30 Bht each gets you to Siam, the centre of all shopping), at weekends get the BTS to Sala Dang and then take the MRT to JJ Market (better as the MRT takes station is right in the market so less to walk when you have bought all the nice bargins!, Chao Phraya River and river taxis to take you to Grand Palace, Wat Po, Wat Arun, Koh San Road, China Town, anywhere along the river at 13 Bht each. Wat Yannawa, beautiful with boat in centre. Bangrak night bazaar, small but okay for some shopping. Robinsons department store, normal shopping with good basic food court on top floor, ground floor supermarket, Black Canyon Coffee and Food, MK Suki. Outside it has KFC, McD, Pizza. Loads of street food around Robinsons and very good massage on the 2nd Floor, near the toilets called Chabi Massage and Spa. Could go on and on, hope this helps, if you need any more info, just let me know. Have a great trip.

got some news to share, got a sms this morning to say the visa application was ready to pick up

I used an Agent so I called her to tell her, she went to pick the apllication up after 3pm, recieved a phone call from her about 4pm congratulating us on getting the visa granted. and to think yesterday I had given up, just goes to show although you feel down there is still hope left & this Forum, busy now not much time to organise things for Thursday, Good Luck Chewy, Andyjoy, & Kate, dont give up it will happen.

Yes It was me who went to his MP but we are still waiting. We did get a nod to say it was been looked at on the 29th June but still no visa. I have another appointment with my MP on Thursday morning when we will be using his fax machine.

they cover there arse's by saying 95% of normal settlement visa's have an answer within 12 weeks(3months). what normal means i do not know. what i do know it is a disgrace it takes that length of time to read and make a decision on people's life's.

listening to other peoples thoughts on here i think it would only wind them up and they would probably put you at the bottom of the pile.

on an other note i think we are very innocent minded if we think the embassy do not read this forum.i read one thread and it seemed to me the person replying was from the embassy or somebody working on there behalf .

just wondering how many of us used a visa agent ? i know it make no difference to outcome just curious thats all
