  1. "Ice" is easily made. There is more to this, as always :)

No reason to get on a plane with this stuff as it would be just as easy to sell in Tehran. Penalty is similar; Death or life with a confession. This stuff can be cooked pretty much anywhere so no need to get on a plane with it. These cases have all been caught due to anonymous or other tips. Under normal conditions some of them would have not made it out of the departing airports. To suggest that the Thai customs officers are better at catching drug offenders is a bit hard to believe.

There are a couple of countries on our planet who have an interest in making sure the world-wide image of Iranians is a negative one. Rest assured no major drug operation would back these idiots in these amounts and I am sure these idiots could not accumulate enough wealth to actually buy the stuff and fly here with it. This one has more to the story. This wreaks of small time intelligence activity doing their low level street work. Especially knowing that it has just recently begun and was relatively unheard of previously.

Your logic is compelling but how are they convincing the mules to make the trip?

I'm thinking the chance to visit some lovely Thai lady's is all it took. People have done a LOT of stupid things for a shot of leg.

  2. Just wonder why some people would make stealing/robbery ph34r.gif a profession shock1.gif

I spent two years in Colombia over a five year period in the 70s, and my experience was that Colombia had far more liars, thieves, crooked cops, and generally bad people than any of the 60-plus countries I've visited and lived in. Yes, there are many very good, kind and friendly people there, but they were always telling me to watch out for the Colombian "ratas" (rats). Actually, I had a great time and many adventures there ... but I was young and reckless, and felt I was immune to death. I was robbed, arrested several times (even though innocent), jailed for five days (even though innocent), extorted by the police, pickpocketed, spit at, and lied to constantly. Fortunately the many hard and sometimes dangerous times I experienced during my many adventure travels all over the world have, over the years, evolved into fond memories and great tales.

BTW, I mean no disrespect to any good Colombian's reading this, but you know what I'm talking about.

100% correct. I call them cultures of crime. Add Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Venezuela, Oh lets not forget Nigeria.

Absolutely. I crack up when I here all the Sally's crying about how bad, and corupt Thailand is. This place is a cake walk compared to C/S. America and W. Africa.

  3. How about using the 30 billion to improve Bangkok infrastructure before spending money like this on a stupid idea like this....

Totally agree - complete lack of infrastructure - bloody floods eveytime it rains, so build a ferris wheel, at least you'll be dry if you're on top of it. But at least this ferris wheel builds on the great Thai tradition of - to lazy to think of our own idea, so we'll copy someone elses.

What a completely stupid remark. If something works and is incredibly popular then you shouls use it. Why think of a new idea when you already have one that works. So what new ideas do you think up every day? I bet you just copy what everyone else does. How did you end up in Thailand? Did you just follow the crowd or did you think of it independently? I thought not. Many countries have copied the London Eye becuase it's so popular. Do you drive a car, or did you come up with your own transport idea? Everyone copies what's good. Why would you try to reinvent the wheel (pun intended) all the time?

This will make money. You can't spend all money on infrastructure. Would you go on holiday to somewhere that had great infrastructure but no attractions?

What is popular? where is it popular?

Do you think if Iraq made Eiffel Tower tourists will come in millions?

Why would Brit travel to BKK to take a ride on a wheel which he/she has back home

Why do they travel to BKK for prostitutes when they have plenty at home.biggrin.gif

It seems your thinking is so twisted that even a 30billion baht wheel will not fix.

  4. Exactly. Some people are so naive.

Corruption is in every court and legal system all around the world. What do you think happens to a guy from the streets of harlem with a public defender vs. a white yuppie with a high dollar attorney who lives in uptown Manhattan given the same crime.

  5. Great news, thanks for the info. I feel a LOT better knowing it will at least arrive. Once again. Thank you.

    Oh yeah, retiredarmy BTW :)

I have received items through FedX but have no idea if they have a office here or not. First item was sent five days prior from the US

  6. Hi,<div>I just moved to Chanthaburi and have a question about FEDEX delivery here.</div><div>My employer routinely FEDEX's me documents and such to work on at home.</div><div>When I lived in BKK it was never an issue, it was simple and reliable.</div><div>I am wondering if the service is as reliable down here.</div><div>Any comments, suggestions, or experiences?</div><div>BTW: FEDEX is a must as we have a corporate account with them, so DHL is out of the question.</div><div>Thanks in advance.</div>

  7. Now this is an interesting post. I have often thought people who date someone BECAUSE of his/her race is a form of racism. I think a persons ethnic makeup is critical to their character. It is what defines someone is their culture. It is simple perpetuation of the species to be attracted to someone who is similar in all aspects. ie skin color, religion, regions.

That being said. I do have a preference for ethnic women. I was raised in S. Texas and have a weakness for Mexican women. Always have, just a preference to what I am familiar with.

I have traveled to all corners of this world and find people interesting. I just tend to sample the local flavor of wherever I wind up.

  8. My GF calls me My-Kull. My name is Michael :)

Mine is an interesting story. I suffered a tramatic brain injury in Afghanistan. Aside from a 100% hearing loss in my left ear. I process Thaienglish much easier than English. Something to due with the way my brain process's much like a dylexcic person reads. Immediately after my injury my English was MUCH worse then GF.

Funny we would eat at resteraunt and GF would say to waitress. "he not good, no ok" or "him head no good" "he no stupid, sick, Ok"

She mothers me and protects me, but never pitys me.

The strange looks we get from my fellow Farangs, when she translates English for me.
