1. If you have a chance go inside the BRT station and they have a drawing of what the finished project should look like although it's still hard to tell what it's going to be. It looks like they are building a walkway that extends from the existing walkway that crosses Sathorn on the north side. The new walkway in the picture looks like it extends out over the canal but the drawing doesn't show how far it goes. I was looking at the drawing before trying to figure out where the new extension will go to.

  2. I don't have any suggestions for what a good business here would be now but I do have a couple of comments on other business that have been mentioned here. I wish I had some suggestions for what would be good but knowing what could be difficult should be helpful too.

I would stay away from any business that involves importing anything into Thailand because the import taxes on most items are very high and there are payoffs you have to make to the right people at customs. Also there are many restrictions on items that can be imported. One reason GNC is usually empty is because the import taxes they have to pay makes the retail price of their items too expensive. The selection at GNC is very limited because many of the items they can sell in other countries are not permitted to be imported to Thailand.

Exporting jewelery from Thailand used to be an easy way to make a profit but it's much harder now. The price of silver is very high now compared to a few years ago and the strong baht makes the price of jewelry even higher for export markets. If you want to try fashion or costume jewelry it's tough from here because it's much cheaper and there is a much bigger selection in China. Most of the fashion jewelry that you see in Thailand was made in China anyway.

  3. Indus is very good and it's not the typical oily heavy Indian food. I recommend the chicken Kebeb-E-Malai.

The burritos and chicken quesadilla at Sunrise Tacos are good but overall I think La Monita Taquera at Phloen Chit is a better restaurant. The problem though is the acoustics there are terrible and it can get annoyingly loud inside.

  4. There's a very good new restaurant at Thong Lor if you are interested in that area too. It's called Serenade and is in a complex called Grass just past Soi 10 if you are coming from Sukhumvit. It's behind Fat Gut'z which is a new popular blues bar.

  5. A few years ago I bought a Motorola phone at MBK because the price was a good bit lower than anywhere else. About a year later it needed a repair so I took the phone to the Motorola repair center in Bangkok and they said the repair wasn't under warranty because the phone was from Singapore. The cost of the repair was very low so it still came out cheaper than buying from an official store. I have also bought another phone at MBK and never had any problems with that one.

Last year I bought a Nokia phone while I was in America and it was much cheaper there than anywhere here. If you know anyone there who can buy one and send it to you that might be cheaper but you might be hit with customs duties when it arrives.

  6. It's great to see that Jimmy Dean sausage patties are available in Thailand now. I noticed you also have these in the Sausage King brand. How do those compare? Can you get frozen biscuits ( bread biscuits like in the American South)? If I can order sausage and biscuits I will place an order today. Thanks.

Been looking for American-style sausage in LOS for a long time, can I ask where you have seen the Jimmy Deans? Thanks.

The OP has a link to his website, Sausage King, which has Jimmy Dean patties for sell.

  9. I have been checked at that intersection 3 times. I don't think it has anything to do with the state of emergency because two of the three times I have been checked was before the state of emergency was issued. I was checked there about a week ago, early this year and at some point last year. It looks like they are targeting foreigners because each time the cop shined his flashlight into my face before deciding to make the taxi stop.
10. Also make sure the cash you bring is in good condition and not the old style $100 bills. I always use Super Rich when I change cash. CitiBank has some branches here so setting up a CitiBank account before coming could be a good idea. As for Bank of America I have never had poorer service with any bank or credit card. From my personal experience I would never use Bank of America for anything again.
