  1. $150 Burger from Chef Daniel Bolud`s DB Bistro Moderne/NYC. Composed of an exterior of ground sirloin with a filling of boned short ribs braised in red wine, foie gras, black truffle and a mirepoix of root vegetables. The homemade bun is topped with toasted parmesan and layered with fresh horseradish mayonnaise, tomato confit, fresh tomato and frisée lettuce.

  2. Well, the clouds over Doi Pui are a "little" dark, but they don't seem to be moving toward town......

Thought the same thing re: apparent movement. Went out on the bike, got a soaking and beat a retreat.

  3. Stopped by ARM Bikes the other day. Westbound side of Huay Kaew past CM Hill Hotel, before the Canal road. Dude charged 300 Bht to bleed air from Shimano brake line. Perhaps a little steep?

  4. Regarding forks, I've had Rock Shox, Manitou's, and FOX, and can say that the FOX are absolutely the best. I've got a four year old F100/RLT and a 100 RLC at the moment and they have never needed service except for a bit of air every few months. I also use FOX rear shocks and they seem to need service more often, but not abnormally so.

CobraST, do you have some more specific directions to TCA? I need to check them out. I've been pretty happy with SPIN out on Canal Road near Night Safari, and even yesterday I cruised in there for some spokes as I broke one. They gave me two for free and off I went as I buy stuff there. Nice owner, but the mechanic could be friendlier. (The old mechanic was great.)

I just self imported a new bike that came equipped with a ROCK SHOX Race SID Fork. Way smooth on the descents with no rebound going up. Will see how well it stands up from a maintenance perspective but this is a very nice fork.

  5. So back in '99 did motorbikes actually stay off the Thapae Gate grounds? Yeah, I doubt it. I just know to walk carefully when I cross that vast open expanse.

By no means am I saying bikes stayed of the square. Neither did I. But this was after hours, not because there is a rule or not, just did not care to get faranged. One does not ride helmetless in town at 5PM eitherph34r.gif.

From what I saw Thursday there was a constant stream of traffic, way more than before, conflicting with

hangers out and some children playing badminton. Now I won`t hesitate to ride across, but at busy times will likely take the u-turn.

  6. For as long as I can remember (around 1999) it was posted "FINE x,000 Baht Riding Motorcycle on Thapae Gate Ground", or such.

Now there is no sign and a constant stream of traffic , even Tuk-Tuks. I can understand blasting across drunk at 03:00AM but Thapae Gate has become a thoroughfare, detrimental to everyones enjoyment. What happened?

  7. I purchased a small condo in Chiang Mai last year but I'm only residing here for one to three weeks every couple months as I am still working overseas. I don't plan on retiring very soon. I have the blue Tabien Baan from the previous owner. When I inquired about getting a yellow one in my name at I was told I would have to get a letter from immigration to have it processed, and maybe they would not help me as I am always in Thailand on a 30 day visa waiver. So, what is the purposed of this document, how do I get one, and is it even worth the hassle at this time?

  8. Hi all. New to the forumso for my first post here goes. If you are closer to Nimanhemin there is a new bike shop "Jacky Cycle" between Sirimankarajarn and Niman (I think About Soi 3). They have some nice stuff in there, mostly end high bikes and parts.
