  1. I recall my first extension at Nong Khai as a newly wed using my wife's salary to extend I had more photos than in the Hello Magazine archives. Bedroom, in front of the house, clothes etc. Plus a map to my house that a cartographer would have been proud of.

The officer in question asked what was in the envelope and when I replied "Photos and a map" said "Don't need them"

Compare this to the guy and his wife at the next officer who was going through the pics with a fine tooth comb. Found out from him later it was his 7th extension through marriage.

    Go figure.

  2. I seem to recall the rooms in the hotel block at the Nakaburi were about 700 baht a night with a breakfast. Good value. Clean, aircon, fairly new.

The Charoen had a very good value buffet lunch I remember.

  3. For sure KKB. I just didn't want the OP to go wandering around Khon Kaen looking for 3 separate malls. On my first trip to KK and after completely losing my bearings on a number of songtaews I thought the back and front entrances to Fairy Plaza were two different shopping centres! :)

  5. You do not change your visa, you just change the reason for an extension. On the form you have to fill in a reason for the extension and that will be married to a Thai national/ or living with your Thai spouse, instead of employment.

Mario is 100% correct. I worked on a non-B and then finished work so I just extended my non-B putting "Stay with Thai spouse" as the reason for extending. Perfectly acceptable.

  6. To avoid any confusion OP the 3 places mentioned are one and the same although it's commonly known as TukCom now.

Basically they'll have anything and everything you need. Massive selection.

  7. The International Herald Tribune is usually available from the newsagents just up from the Caltex gas station on Sri Chan road directly opposite the entrance to the Charoen Thani Princess hotel.

If you want to read magazines like Newsweek or Time the "Connectivity Lounge" on the second floor of the Pullman hotel has a fair selection of back issues you can read.

  8. You will need a re entry permit if you are leaving Thailand and intend to come back to Thailand within the duration of any type of visa. Basically your visa is canceled when you leave because, well, you're leaving. To keep your visa active so you don't have to apply for a new one once you've left the country you'll need the re entry permit.

For example, I'm on a single entry one year extension of stay on a Non-B visa. My extension expires on the 9th October. If I leave Thailand for a trip to say, Laos, on the 5th August and intend coming back on the 10th August my visa will be canceled on the 5th because I've left the country. To put my extension on hold I get a re entry permit and when I come back to Thailand on the 10th August my extension will be reactivated and still expire on 9th October. If i didn't get a re entry permit my extension would be canceled when I left and I'd have to get a new visa while I was out of the country.

The exception to this is if you have a multi entry visa where you don't have to get a re entry permit because, as the name suggests, you can come and go as you please within the duration of your visa.

I stand to be corrected of course!

  9. Thanks very much to all for taking the time to reply. You've set my mind at ease. One final question please to make sure I'm all clear lopburi or ubonjoe. Apologies for my ignorance!

If I go with the money in for 2 months and for some reason they want 3 I can get then the 60 day extension, go back a month later when the money has been in at least 3 months and then extend using the my original visa which I've been extending annually for 9 years. No need to leave the country and get a new visa and start the process all over again. Is that correct? Thanks.

  10. Hi everybody. First time poster with a question so any help that you could give me would be extremely appreciated. I'm currently on a yearly extension of a non-B and have previously extended using my wife's salary. I know the regulations have changed and I need to have 400k baht in my bank account this year instead of using the wife's salary option. My question is does anybody know if Nong Khai (my local immigration office) are asking for the money to be in the bank for 2 or 3 months prior to extension because after reading this forum it seems that the actual rules say 2 months but some offices are asking for 3. For various reasons I can get the money transferred 2 months prior to extension but not 3. If Nong Khai are asking for 3 months would it be possible to extend my current visa for, say 1 or 2 months (meaning the money would have been in the bank for the minimum 3 months they want) and then extend it for a full year using the same visa or would I have to leave the country and get a new 3 month visa? Thanks for any advise you can give
