  1. 3) Contact real estate agents in from the area who show you various properties. With this situation the agent showed us a block of land in Hang Dong 3 nagn we liked at a price of 1.5mill baht. The neighbor was kind enough to give us the owners phone number behind the agents back.

So the Real Estate agent does their job, and does it well - in fact finding you a perfect piece of land you like. And you cut them out?

  2. I'm more or less a computer expert. I lacked the tools to change out a flaky SATA plug thus why I took it to a shop. Trivial job. No need to turn the computer on.

GOM player and Media Player Classic were removed. Rich media player installed and applied for all media types. Desktop completely rearranged. Several shortcuts missing. The wrong version of TWEAKUI installed, default graphics image viewer set to MS Paint. Gimp removed. Imgburn removed. Major clown playing with toys episode.

I made this post as a heads up for people in the eastern outlying area of Chiang Mai and, fortunately, the people were just average anal orifices that did not have a clue they were, literally, playing in the sandbox. Still had to check every inch of the 2 HDs for virus and malware etc.

So why not stand over them whilst they did it?

What tools are needed to change a Sata (plug?) new cable or move the port surely?

Just sounds like they reloaded windows over the top, How is this hacking? definitely doesn't sound like someone who is more or less a computer expert?

  3. It's an open secret Phuket has long been the hub (tongue.png ) of money laundering (I dunno, all those empty shophouses ...), or 'black money' used by the predominantly wealthy Bangkok Chinese who I'm pretty sure wayyyy outnumber we farang. Stable door. Horse. Bolted coffee1.gif

How is spending what must have already been converted into Thai baht on empty shophouses that don't make any money actually laundering money?

Why not just keep the money used to build them and spend it on what you want.

Why would someone with ilicit money spend it on unsuccessful or unproductive assets that are easier to trace than money in a safe spent on what they want.

  4. I don't see how you are going to be able to build that sort of Bamboo structure for 3,000 Baht in materials. does that include bamboo blinds, paint, string, concrete, roof etc..?

If you have someone who is able to build this for 1.500 baht (in one day of labour???) then surely you can just sit and sketch it out with them?

Wouldn't need a building permit though.

  5. That breakfast looks anaemic to me, this place is round the corner from me but it does seem a bit out of place, at least until the new shopping mall is up and running. I'm not sure how much of a selling point 14 Tv's playing different channels is. If the food is so-so and the beer is expensive I cant see it doing so well - unless they run some great specials and work on doing some special food.

  6. The fishy question is why she divorced her hb just a month ago ? How long do u know her? If more than a month means she was cheating on her hb with u ? Or she would say to u they dont live together for a long time, married while very young, but then she has 2 kids from her husband ( or just while married to her husband ?) ???

Me thinks what starts with a lie will be a lie, but thats my humble opinion.

I would really take time to think and reflect on the situation.

I would have thought a huge number of people (worldwide) actually only eventually get divorced when they want to actually remarry.

  7. Looks like i quit at the wrong time---tho not happy to see my recipes they "promised" they wouldnt use IE "steal" when i left...post-4641-1156694005.gif

    Can someone own recipes?

If you were employed as a chef and showed the staff how to cook certain items for sale it would be strange to assume that they can not continue to make and sell the items if you leave? Surely they have designed packaging, lables, bar codes, pricing perhaps bought equipment etc....

  8. Then, what you are saying, so far, is that there are no good Chinese restaurants in Chiang Mai?

Actually, I suspect this might be true since I have a number of Chinese friends who recently arrived and even they do not seem to eat in Chinese restaurants here.

And, I do not absolutely need to have Chinese food while here, but it sure would have been nice to know of just one that had good authentic Chinese food.

I bet there is at least one Chiang Mai restaurant which serves up a mean bowl of Dan-Dan mian, if someone would just tell me where.

What you say about Chinese food in America is true. In California and in New York, it is easy to get Chinese food that is the same, sometimes better, than what you might find in Beijing or Chengdu or Chongqing.

Glop? Beef Glop is my word for what the big chains use to make hamburgers and other meat products. It is some type of goo or something made from otherwise inedible parts of the cow. There was some discussion about this product in the news recently in many countries. There is no need, as you say, for Americans to eat glop in Thailand, or in America, but Americans love the glop at McD. Here in Chiang Mai, Thailand, McD is no where in sight, very often. So this is a good thing. If you like glop, then more power to you. I will be the last one to object to your eating it.

You have been led down the trail of misdirection. In America the beef in the McD is of the highest quality. I really can't imagine the company changing their standards here. Of course high quality beef here could be a different quality. It would still be quality beef.

Funny you should mention Chinese food I have been wondering where their was a restaurant with War Won Ton soup. Or is that just some Canadian glob.

McDonalds until very recently (when outed) used beef trimmings treated with Ammonia Hydroxide in their burgers.

  9. yeah but it aint ceviche. Check this recipe out using tilapia (pla nin). Too bad the pak chee here isn't quite like the cilantro from the old country...

    http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/marcela-valladolid/tilapia-ceviche-recipe/index.html

Leo with a little lime juice accompanies this well...

Agreed and I have been round and round arguing with people who say pak chee is cilantro. But as you know, it is not.

As in Coriander? Because the stuff I buy here regularly every week (and grow myself from Coriander seeds) is most certainly Coriander.

  10. Maybe it is (which follows that maybe it's not) but that doesn't make it a hot dog and shouldn't be sold as one, especially in a sausage specialty shop. Obviously I care enough to comment but I'm just one diner in the last month of 1,250,000 in your estimation. Next time I'm in Aussie I'll order a snag and promise to post my experience here too. tongue.png It's been fun!

I disagree, to many (at least from the UK), including myself a Hot Dog is more about a sausage (of some sort) in a long thin bun, it quite clearly states that it's sausage.

  11. If you calculate how long the Shower unit runs, the cost is very little. a shower is about 5 minutes, the water is already warm, by other countries standards.

We find that 80% of the instant water heater failures are due to clogged inlet filters and bad flow switches, mineral build up in the flow switch, very seldom do we find the heating element at fault. That said getting repair parts is very difficult, and there is also a safety issue involved in working on these units.

Now if you are filling a bath tub that's a whole different kettle of fish, for that you need a tank type water heater, and yes it cost a lot to keep water hot!

1/2" black PE pipe the only way to go, no special tools needed and fittings cheap and readily available everywhere so you can adapt to PVC or any other pipe.

    ..

two showers a day, 4 family members.

Also no chance of getting an electric shock, hot water when there is no electric etc... I'm definitely getting solar hot water next time.

  12. There is no way to even begin to figure pay back with a solar hot water system. There basicly is No Pay back.

Also no sun no hot water, best way throw a 100 m3 role of PE black pipe on the roof, works like a charm and cheap. Used it on my building in babgkok for years, had hot water 90% of the time (where there was Sun).

    How so?

My water heaters in my last house were rated at 1600 watts and were replaced or fixed every couple of years it seemed.

After Air-Con I would expect it to be my biggest energy expenditure.

  13. OK, then.

Another oil is fine with me

I just need an oil that is:

Fairly low cost, no more than the cost of soybean oil, for sure.

    Has a high Smoke Point

Readily available in all retail food markets

Will not contribute any of the oil's flavor to the food being fried or stir fried

And will not smoke unduly when on very high heat

    That's about it.

It is not as if I am going to drink gallons of the stuff myself. So I do not care about its health qualities if it is at least as good as good quality soybean oil.

    Any suggestions?

    Rice Bran oil
