  1. Yes I guess I am a "drone" in that I no longer work. I do however bring into Thailand and spend a fair amount of money from abroad. So I am certainly not a drain on the economy here quite the contrary I would think.

I am indeed the father, as noted on the birth certificate,

My annual Retirement income exceeds the minimum amount that qualifies for an extension based on

-Supporting a dependant "new 400,000 or old rules 200,000 baht annually"

or -Retirement ---800,000 annually ..although I am well aware I am too young to apply for that.

Additionally I currently have a little over 400,000 baht in a Thai bank which apparently is not enough for me to be taken seriously.

Does anyone know of a precedant for a waiver of minimum retirement age if all other criteria is met? In another 8 months or so I could save an additional 400,000 baht to show them

  2. My Visa extension was rejected on Friday

I am a 42 year old retired American with a Pension

I went to Thai Immigration here in Chiang mai with the following

-my passport with Non imm -o visa (obtained in the U.S.)

-Pension statement notarized by the consulate, showing a monthly income in excess of 100,000 baht per month.

    - bank book and letter from the bank showing a balance in excess of 400,000 baht

    - my daughter's birth certificate proving I am indeed her father

I was asked several times to show proof of marriage which I was unable to produce as I am not married (as I am now Gamophobic) , but applying for an extension based on support of my Thai national child.

I was told I required a document stating I am required by the court to support my child. Because" In Thailand the mother is the only one recognized as suporting the child unless the courts say otherwise" however when I went to the Ampur to apply for said document I was told I should be married to get it.......kinda defeats the purpose of getting an extension based on supporting a child with Thai citizenship.

So now I am back to the 30 day visa runs.

Has anyone had similar problems or greater success obtaing the letter of support if so please tell me I would like ideas.

    Thanks

  3. There's usually 1 and sometimes 2 flights per month from Bangkok to Kadena

AB in Okinawa Japan, Contact the AMC representative at JUSMAG Thai for details You will have to have to show your retired military ID and passport to the rep the business day prior to any flight to confirm your eligibility to fly.

its a long 9 hour flight on a C-130 as we could not get clearance to fly over Vietnam but free is a hard price to beat, did it myself a couple of times seating was never an issue everyone that showed up got on the flights usually 15-25 pax . But as you likely will be flying on a C-130 delays in departure time/date are not uncommon.

  4. I may return to immigration with mother and child, but now I am frustrated and resigned to becoming a frequent visa runner once again, at least I can incorporate trips to new places with my visa runs.

This hurts the savings though....although I am already retired I am saving for a better retirement in the future.

Perhaps someone on this Forum has obtained a document of child support from another Ampur in Thailand. One that recognizes that children can be born without the parents having a marriage certificate.

  5. My Visa extension was rejected today

I went to Thai Immigration here in Chiang mai with the following

-Pension statement notarized by the consulate, showing a monthly income in excess of 100,000 baht per month.

    - bank book and letter from the bank showing a balance in excess of 400,000 baht

    - my daughter's birth certificate proving I am indeed her father

Also raises the question of "dead beat dads" the system seems to encourage them... I however am totally committed to the well being of my daughter regardless of anything.

So now I am back to the 30 day visa runs.

  6. Hello Goodguy

First of all Congratulation's!!!. I can answer your question from first hand experience no less. My daughter was born a little over a year ago. All that I needed at the Hospital was my passport. My name and other information was translated by the bilingual nurse and entered in thai on the Birth certificate.

I suppose the likelyhood of having bilingual staff would depend on the hospital you choose. I live in Chiang mai and our baby was born at Chiang mai ram 1 hospital.

I am presuming your significant other is a Thai citizen if so you will have to go to the local "Sam Nag TaBien" office to register the child with a house or land book.

You will likely require an english translation to register the birth with your embassy or consulate this is required to obtain a Passport ( I registered the birth and applied for her U.S. passport at the same time. I am from the U.S.A. but I am sure the U.K. has similar requirements.

I also went to the local Ampur and applied for her Thai passport. I recieved both of her passports in 2 or 3 weeks.

    I hope this helps.

  7. Thanks for the bank tip Astral

But the only fun I have in the bank is when I am counting my money...which unfortunately does not take very long.

And thanks for your tip Maerim but unfortunately its only Sanuk in the Supermarket when I am spending my money which also does not take very long to do.

Any more ideas would be welcome

  8. Prostitution has been around forever and will continue to be.

Two sides to this: Supply and Demand

there are countless examples of why we have the supply and demand but I will just state a few

    Supply-

True many prostitutes don't want to be in "the business" but you gotta work with what you got.

Some women or men in the industry either cannot get a decent job to support themselves, their families, their "expensive habits" or the lure of quick money is too much of a temptation. As long as someone is of legal age, mentally competant and is not forced into it they should have a right to decide to do it. It's can be degrading for some and as such I'm sure it is a difficult choice , however some view it as "sanuk with pay" .

    Demand-

There are so many horny men that either cannot get laid without paying , cannot be bothered with the hassle of a relationship, or are aroused by the idea of selecting who they want negotiating the price and getting busy.

Wish all you want but it's here to stay. May as well be legal then those involved may have the same rights as any other "legal" worker.

It Ain't going away, but it could be regulated I don't know ...maybe allow it in specific area's and call it oh I don't know....ah.. a "red light district" That way

Feminist and Families can steer clear.

  9. Thanks for the tips .....

But when I got inside my fridge and closed the door to keep in the cold inside the lights went out, and I got scared :o so I searched for a beer to calm my nerves but remembered I had to take the beer out of the fridge for me to fit in it. So I got out of the fridge to get a cold beer but the beer got warm while I was using the fridge to cool off.

There is a public pool near my house( it would be soooooo nice to have my own) but since the kids have been out of school its full of young kids....and I don't think the water is supposed to be yellowish in color :D .

Any more idea's would be welcome.

  10. Thanks kemikelx

I will note mr Muthu's phone #, but try it on my own first

I hope I will have everything I need to get my visa extended my current entry stamp does not expire until the 1st of June which means I cannot apply until the 1st of May so I still have a couple of weeks before i can get a letter from the bank (within a week or so of my application) to add all my other documents and then go for it.

Interestingly I was told I should have proof of my pension as well as proof of 200,000+ baht in the bank, was told "the more the better" . I am aware that the "official rules" require only one or the other, but It all depends on who you talk to, what side of the bed they woke up on that day, and whatever other whims they may have.

  11. I am an American citizen 42 years old, obtained my "non-Immigration O" through the Thai consulate in U.S.

I am not married nor do I plan to do so, however I have a child here in thailand with both Thai and U.S. citizenship. I will support my child ( also by proxy my childs mother) and am hoping to obtain an extension on that basis.

I was told I must be married to have a non Immigration -O in the first place but I have one and I am certainly not married ( I am allergic to marriage) and I've got to renew my visa in the next 3 weeks. My retirement pay from U.S. military is in excess of 100,000 baht per month. Most of my net worth was "appropriated" by my EX-wife and I do not have much cash in the bank. What are my options. All help would be appreciated.

    Thanks
