  1. Hello Richard

Congrats on your retirement, and your move to Thailand .

I did the same thing almost 5 years ago when I was 38. Many of my friends and family thought I was nuts when I turned down a good job and retired. Now most of those same friends and family now envy my quality of life. My view is that retirement is to be enjoyed to the fullest, doing all the things you wanted to do while working but never had the time. Enjoy!!!!

autonomous_unit hit upon a couple good points

After you get married you can change to a Non immigration -O visa. That will get rid of the requirement for visa runs.

Also, If you set up bank transfers from your Stateside bank to your Thai bank you can save a bundle on ATM fee's. It's also helpful when it comes time to extend your visa.

As retired military you can fly get free flights back to the U.S. Space available.

there is normally 1 flight per month from BKK to Okinawa Japan and from there its a breeze to get across the pond PM me for details about that if you are interested.

    Take Care

  2. You need to see a urologist and have a cystoscopy done.

The instrument (cystoscope) below is inserted into the end of your penis and the doctor can then see the inside of your urethra for any infection.

The medications you took improperly will not stop any of the infections you mentioned. If necessary, the urologist can scrap your urethral lining with an instrument while the cystoscope is inserted to eliminate any problems he finds.

    Best of luck to you.

    cystoscope.jpg

    ###### this looks painful . It has air fittings that cant be good :D

the alligator clips on the left side are used to hold open the meatus (the opening at the end of the penis, the "eye" of one-eyed snake fame) while the cystoscope is inserted.

the air fittings allow pressurized air to be inserted into the urethra and into a balloon-like feature. the inflated balloon can then be pulled and withdrawn down through the urethra to clear any blockage.

How is the morphine administered when using this cystoscope.

    :o

  3. All joking aside.

The failure rate for condoms available here in Thailand is unacceptable to say the least, furthermore they don't accommodate the well endowed very well. :o

Personally I recommend bringing them with you from your home country.

In the unfortunate event of a broken condom, wash thouroughly and urinate immediately after intercourse, doing so can flush bacteria from the urethra that has not "set up home yet". This can actually reduce your chances of infection, albiet a very small percentage chance of preventing infection, but If I was in his "shoes" so to speak I would take a 2% reduction in the chance of infection anyday.

At this point nothing left to do but get checked out and hope for the best.

  4. We are sorry to inform you that the land on the moon is no longer included in this offer.

    Sincerely CMG

Sorry CMG, that's a deal breaker. I was hoping to use the acreage to grow rambuttans and mangosteens.. :o

Thank you for you interest in my offer. It is my marketing strategy to remove benefits while simultaneously increasing cost, therefore adding to the exclusivity of the offer.

  5. I notice several Thai Visa members criticizing the Thai Elite card marketing practices, you imply that it is in someway flawed.

I personally see any accusations that the marketing strategy is flawed as preponderous.

Also I am offering for sale by invitation only, 100 1975 Reliant Robin’s, this is the most pristine example of three wheel motoring engineering . Each outstanding example has only 125,000+ miles and is priced below the comparably equipped 2005 Bentley Continental.

These Vehicle’s were previously on the market at 13,262

pounds sterling each and the price has been increased to reflect the value of owning such a fine piece of machinery. Now priced at 66,312 pounds sterling each, affording the discerning buyer a superb value indeed.

Normal maintenance cost at a Bentley dealership for this vehicle runs upwards from 90 pounds per hour, however as an added bonus repair work will be accomplished by Nigel on Soi3 at the greatly reduced price of 89.95 pound sterling per hour.

Fast track bathroom privileges will be available to you at Nigel’s urinary facility as you will be afforded the luxury of using said facilities on a priority basis. This offered to you with a small annual paperwork fee of 530 pounds annually.

As a bonus up .4 acres of land on the moon may also be purchased by the new owner of this wonderful automobile……

We are sorry to inform you that the land on the moon is no longer included in this offer.

    Sincerely CMG

  6. CMguy,

The attempt to escape is the same??

I never heard about farangs, dying in police-custody, any examples?

    Patex

What I meant by my previous post is that in my opinion laws are not enforced equally for farangs.

Now don’t get me wrong I have observed equal opportunity to “donate” to the “Policemans retirement fund” to avoid minor infractions just like the average Thai, however when it comes to more serious or high profile crimes it would appear ( from my observation) that the average Thai citizen has a slight advantage. With the noticeable exception of certain ethnic minorities.

Now where I am from Laws are normally enforced equally . Of course much like Thailand ethnicity, wealth and connection often make a big difference. Country of origin usually has no bearing.

  7. Is that true? I recall reading somewhere that bankruptcy makes you ineligible for certain Thai visas; can you clarify?

Yes, I do believe bankruptcy makes you ineligible for the Thai Elite card (and the visa that comes with it), However I'd be willing to bet they would let you get that anyway if you were willing to fork over 1,000,000 baht. :o

  8. I finally got my Non Imm-O "...application of stay permitted..." stamp.

After 3 "...application of stay under consideration..." stamps ( each for 30 days).

Is the process faster the 2nd time or is a 2-3 month wait for approval the norm even on the 2nd ,3rd,... 10th time extending.

By the way I am 42years old, retired and extended my Visa solely based on supporting my thai national child.

I figure some of you ladies and gentlemen have done this numerous times, whats the scoop.

  9. My theory is that they bite everyone is't just some people react more to it than others.

    Not true.

Mosquitos pick out their prey with their keen sense of smell, also they are adept at picking out individual prey from their scent, we all smell different and mossies have their preferences.

I have a love hate relationship with them... They love me and I hate them :D .

somes of ways to avoid them are listed in previous post, but I will add a couple of important ones.

Hygeine is very important ! stay clean, pay particular attention to the feet. Mossies are particularly drawn to the smell of feet :D I know its hard to stay clean in a hot climate when you sweat all the time, but try. Here is an interesting Link

Isn't funny that only the female mossies will suck you dry. :o

Wear light color clothing. They don't hunt by sight but they like to hide near dark surfaces...if they hide near your clothing they will often find you a very convienient meal.

I also wonder what useful purpose they serve on this planet, anybody know?

  10. To clarify things a little

You can continue to obtain "new" Visa's outside of Thailand with just the birth certificate .

However, if you would like to extend your stay in Thailand, based on an existing Visa( without the need to leave Thailand), then you must do what I stated in the previous post. It is really not that difficult to do. The hardest part for me was to find a good lawyer at a reasonable price. You stated previously you have already done that. The rest is easy to do.

  11. I am also the father of a Thai child and unmarried. I had to go to court to recieve my "nawg suea rap rong boot" from the Amphur here in Chiang Mai. I am also living with my thai girl friend and our daughter.

The Amphur will not issue the Rap Rong boot unless one of the following conditions are met

    1) you are married to the mother of the child and are therefore recognized as the father in Thai law.

    2) your child is able to read and write in thai, can understand the law regarding child custody, confirming you as the father and able to confirm you are indeed the father in the presence of the Amphur officials.

    3) you must go to Thai court to sue to be recognized as the "legal" father in Thai law. This must be done in the Amphur where the child is registered on the Tabien Bahn (house papers). Once this is completed you will be awarded "custody" papers for the child and you then have seven days from the custody award date to register with the Amphur and recieve the " nawng suea rap rong boot" This is the document you need to extend your visa.

I just completed this last summer so I am fairly certain it is accurate

IMO you should have your girlfriend initiate the legal proceedings that way the judge will see that you are not fighting for custody but rather you both want you to be recognized as the legal father in Thai law.

I have now recently applied to extend my visa and am currently " under consideration" for that, will see how that goes.

    Good luck to you

  12. I am looking for a great childrens dentist in Chiang Mai. My soon to be 2 year old daughter will need to began visits to the dentist soon and I want her first experiences to be pleasant.

My first dentist was a cruel sadistic wretch with the hygiene of Dung beetle and breath that smelled like a dead dogs a$$. Probably contributing to my present unease in a Dental Clinic.

If anyone with children has had a pleasant experience with a dentist for their children please recommend a good one to me.

By the way my child does not have any dental problems at present I just want to begin professional checkups on her teeth. Thanks

  13. You guys are lucky

I wear US size 15 and find it absolutely impossible to find shoes in Thailand, I have a very limited selection of stores in the US that carry my size but its a lot better than it was a few years ago. When I visit the US I normally bring back a few pairs.

  14. Firstly I will not confirm or deny my being involved in any special forces activities but I will confirm I know of several "Actual" prior special forces guys here in LOS. Ussually the big guy keeping a low profile, carrys himself as if he can deal with anything has a greater chance of being EX SF than a loud mouth.

  15. Just got my Thai license today here in Chiag Mai. I required the following:

    • Completed application form

    • A valid passport and copy

    • Valid non-immigrant visa and copy

    • Internaional drivers permit and copy

they showed no interest in my stateside license even though the IDP requires a valid license from your country to be valid

    • Doctor's certificate

    • Two photos (1") and

    • A declaration confirming residency in Thailand (from the Thai Immigration office 300 baht)

    • A fee of 105 Baht

I was also required to do a color blindness, depth perception, and perepheral vision test

in and out with license in hand in less than an hour

  16. Orion I don't consider you stupid or duped, as you said $25k is small money to you. You simply choose to pay with money as opposed to time for your right to stay here legally. Me and I am sure most others on the forum can better afford to spend our time not our money. We all spend money for comfort or convienence albiet at different amounts.
