  1. This a brilliant idea, one of the best I have ever heard from the DSI. Not really sure why they made a public announcement about it so all the drug dealers know to censor their conversations... ???

Maybe this is like the casino raids, where the casino owners know about the raid in advance and clean everything out before the police show up.

Was trying to think if I could remember when the FBI in America announced to a group of criminals that they were going to tap their phones. Nope cannot think of one time... :-)

This is brilliant idea?Man! this is the dumbiest thing I have read in ThaiVisa in years!

They should have been doing it long time already!

My first mobile I had more then 20 years ago and 5 years later I knew, that police could bug GSM.It was 15 years ago.Today it is no problem at all - in seconds they can have list of all your calls and all texts.

Today politicos told Thai BB to bug drug dealers calls;they did not come to this idea on their own -

conclusion is obvious...Do you remember movie - "Anderson Tapes"? - very similar situation.

  2. They adviced you already - to take airport express train from/to airport. For convinience you should stay

around SentralStation(terminal for airport express) - there is good choice of hotels there:YMCA,Hilton/Meridien,MyHotel,Sentral - better book in advance. From there - to explore town - take monorail up and down to the last station,on the way down get off at Bintang and enjoy yourself.

if you fail to find accomodation in sentral - you can look blind in Bintang, always you will find something there.

    HappyNewYear!

  3. DenonM38 is successor of popular DenonM37,has the same speakers.it comes in two varieties - with DAB radio or without.

It has USB input, where you can connect mp3 player or ipod.It is hi-fi standard.

Yamaha840 has dedicated ipod dock, where you can stuck your ipod.it has hdmi connection.

Sound wise - both will make you perfectly happy;they are similar, competing systems.Yamaha aims at high-end hi-fi.

Both are much better investments, then any of so called - "ipod docks"(scam IMHO).

Some time ago I had older mini from Denon with hi-fi specification and may be I will buy M38 again.

  4. I imagine that those who get their news from TVF and the Nation are surprised to learn that much of Thailand and the rest of the world doesn't view her brother as the second Antichrist, much to their chagrin. I find it especially amusing to see him vilified because he is a convicted criminal, while the people who supported and engineered a coup to overthrow a twice elected government walk around free. Double standards, much?

And the almost 3000 he killed in his war against drugs (half of them didn't had anything to do with drugs) don't view him anymore and don't walk around anymore.

I dont know, what is your location, but in LOS it is common knowledge that the public praised them for that war and they say:

    encore!

you would have the same attitude,if your kid become a junkie or meth head.

  5. The majority of posters on this thread would frighten off any number of tourist. I have been in Thailand over two weeks now and the only flooding I have seen is the inland ocean at 30,000ft on my way to Chiang mai. Really a few of you should give it a rest, most tourist who come to Thailand will never see any flooding unless they intentionally go looking for it.

No way! They are paid for posting!

  6. I have found this to be a useful site for information about conditions.

    http://www.google.or...flood-2011.html

(What a concept! Sharing useful information during an emergency! It must be nice to have the luxury of being so far removed from the world around you, you can just sit and poke fun it it. And you wonder why the Thais can not wait to be rid of you! )

Care to explain who "you" is?

My pleasure. "You" is foreigners who came here for cheap sex, low cost of labor, a lazy life style and snobbish attitude toward the people of Thailand. "You" are those sitting far from the fray judging everyone and everything around them in a negative light. "You" is anyone who takes pleasure in this suffering, and thinks Thais have the time and energy to be your entertainment when constructive input would have real value. "You" are the hungry crocodiles at the mouth of the river, waiting for poor farm girls to come to your little playground to earn money to send home, hungry for desperate labor willing to make your $200 Nike's for 200 BAHT, hungry for the Baht to become cheap so you can hoard a few hundred thousand and skate for a few more years.

"You" are on your way "Out"

Yes KhunRick, this is hard and bitter but ..true.

reading threads in TV today I see a bit too much contempt from posters, phrases like:"Thai arithmetics","Thai science" - we may hear from them soon: -" just go to he..ll!" or "Foxtrot Oscar!"

    Boys! - behave yourself PLEASE!

  7. Elevation which can be artificially reproduced with an a accelerant such as a pump..

Quite so because water is incompressible however in our case of the moored boats both intake and output of the 'pump' remain within the river. The effect is then creating a depression in river elevation at the pump intake and creating an upward bulge at the outlet. The high pressure bulge forces water outward in ALL directions equally and the accelerated water flows in a 3D loop back into the depression created upstream at the intake. Zero water is accelerated directly downstream for any significant distance - it ALL curves back toward the low pressure area.

That only applies in magnitude in a static body of water not in a flowing river as the water continues to flow downstream with momentum just at a quicker pace, there will be some backflow but it is minimal in relation to the added downstream flow...

CloudHopper? you think water will make u-turn?and it will go up - hill?

It flows down because of force of gravity combined with kinetic energy it contains.

The boat current will disperse itself in river current and will dissipate but its energy is there, the water molecules are there mostly(vapour makei it less)it doesnt go anywhere.

Energy produced by boat engine - ends in river.

This is the law of this universe.

You can see it performing exersise in your village stream with coloured water - use ordinary ink.

    have a nice day

  8. May be you are upset, that no boat is available?I want to improve your mood - there was service between Pattaya and Koh Samui few years ago, when I decided to use it - I couldnt find the ticket office

and somebody told me,that the ship had sank.I had not heard about any accident,so nobody drawned.

At least,at least - they could open jetskitaxi service Pattaya-HuaHin!

It is a shame, that on Siam Bay you will not find ferry or speed boats - so many islands to connect and hop.

I heard, that people who tried such biz - quickly discovered, that there is no monies in it.

Or - is it biz opportunity in waiting?

  9. I spent 6 hours yesterday helping to fill up bags with sand in Pathun Thani. I live in a relatively flood free zone in Bangkok Noi. But folks in Nontabutry and surrounding areas are really in a tough spot.

I saw it first hand. I returned home soaking wet and covered with mud.

If all the energy displayed in this forum were put to a better use such as helping those in need instead of criticizing and speculating on political aspects of this disaster (decades in the making through several administrations), Bangkok and surrounding areas could benefit and be spared from a worse fate.

Thanks for posting this. However, FWIW, someone on another flood topic apprised 'farangs' that work in any form, even without compensation (volunteer), without a work permit could lead to arrest, fine, imprisonment or deportation. I suspect it is usually an inclusive 'or'. For some reason he was disconcertingly using smiley faces :) in his posts and was adamant about the veracity of his assertion. I told him this was good news to me because now I have a legal reason not to even volunteer to help (or some such).

This is my personal opinion,I think that many posters here have jobs in ThaiVisa - writing posts.

There is word for this sort of occupation:"shills".

I do not know - how much they are paid?

    Any input?

  10. The obvious simple thing that could have been done and could be every year is to release water from behind dams at an earlier point rather than wait until everything is full and then release huge deluges all at the same time

Actually we have done this for our major hydroelectric reservoirs about 5 years ago. In 2009 we have successfully captured the biggest flood in 50 years. Not even a drop of water lost through spillage. We were making additional money worth USD 7million since we managed to store flood water more than 500million cubic meter (Half of the volume of water that troubled you currently). Obviously ordinary citizen may not realize our ingenuity since they took for granted that the flood should not be there in the first place. Doing the job like this you have to bear with the fact that if you perform your job perfectly well nobody realize that you exist. Next time when you fail people will start to know more about you so that they can channel their anger.

You almost get it right in term of overall concept. In reality, it is much more difficult. Let me ask you one question. How low that you think the dams water levels shall be kept before the next monsoon? Too low you ends up having no water for your purposes. Too high will increase the risk of flooding. It is very tricky business. Nevertheless as you said, it can be done. We have done it.

    Who is "we"?

Must be 2 of "em.......one to hold the ladder and the other to....?

There are already two of YOU to hold the ladder - Rinrada and OzMick, are you looking for help?

  11. My friends and myself have to arrange visas often - in different countries for different countries.

    It is not case of:"call embassy,they knbow best"(what if they do not answer your call? - you know only official number, or you will talk with security guard?);

or it is not the case of - "anytravel agent.."

very often you have to talk(interview) with consul himself or other officer and you have to know what to say,and what to do.

your wife has residence in OZ ? - it will give her some legit position.

    chock-dee!

  12. You can expect problems in OZ.RecentlyChina changed regulations abour visas, rising fees at the same time. The outcome of that is their reluctance to issue visa to you out of your home country. There is one noble exception - Hongkong. In HK they will give her tourist visa

single 30 days or double 2x30days,valid 3 or 6 months(30 or 2X30 days stay, double entry -means:you have to leave after 30 days and enter again). You can get her same visa - you have for bussines, using the same credentials.Price is probably 200HK$ - every country have different price.

  13. Nobody bothers to explain about fingerprint system, they had introduced.Do you like to be treated like common criminal, while you are just common tourist landing in Bali paradise?

They take all 10(ten) fingers and also - your picture!not only in Bali, but everywhere! in all entry points to Indonesia(correct me if I am wrong). Many of you - TV members - will love it?

I do not and I did not see it in any country I had visited in my life.

Well the UK and US use fingerprint capture at their borders and I'm sure there are others, also a number of countries, including Thailand, photograph visitors on arrival.

I have no experience about how a common criminal is treated so I cannot really give a view about if this procedure is similar.

    TheOldGit!

I am afraid - I will make you very upset with this update about visa procedures in Indonesia today:

they do not take fingerprints anymore, they do not take your picture anymore,

they give you VOA for 30 days and they will not ask you for your photo, just they want 25 bucks.

    how this can be possible?

    Complain to your proper congressman.

Fingerprints and pics were introduced to facilitate President Obama visit to Indonesia.

In Bali - it was abandoned after one week in operation(it was such a big mess);in the rest of the country - just after the visit.

  14. Of cpurse he will not say that drug belongs to him. And 2k on reward is just an excuse. USD 1 plus million, he got only 2k? BS!!! At least 50000.

And if I am the judge, I will spare the girl, think she was naive into love trap. Just hope that no lives taken in this incident.

Ya I agree, they are culprit, but the have lives too, punish them with only jail term!

I thought how unusual for a Westerner to do this for a measly $2K, then I saw his picture on the right...

Nigerians pay just this or less.

  15. But this did happen many times in HK, Singapore and even Taiwan. Not long ago I remember a thread here had thousands of discussions.A Farang brought his Thai GF to Singapore and was prohibited by Singapore immigration. And she was sent back to BKK on the following day. Anyone can dig up this thread.&

And what was the reason the TGF was refused entry to Singapore ?.....had been "working" there before ?, came in under a diferent name ?, been deported from Singapore before ?......It is highly unlikely Singapore immigration prohibited entry just because she was Thai, there will be a reason.

Young, pretty and not attanded Thai female - 99% chance of going back on the same flight, happening all the time.

  16. 1400 seems like a lot of money for that kind of cable.

You're right. Go to a phone shop and buy a USB micro cable, not the mini. That cable will plug directly into the Kindle and the Kindle charger. If your charger is no good, plug into your computer to charge the Kindle.

1400 is for charger with cable.Kindle original charger is very good. The cable is standard in EU for mobile phones and is called microUSB,as GaryA said, but in reality miniUSB cable and microUSBcable are about same size, just different shape. You can use same cable/charger for your Kindle, your mobile and mp3 player if you have the right one.

even if you have mp3player with mini USB,you can get adapter - and one charger will do.Once in a while - there is change for better!

  17. I used to play that hobby - wi-fi DXing,You have received very competent advice already, may be a bit techie for novice

. The most important point is - you need to find the place where the signal is the best and place antena there.

very good device is from company EnGenius, model: EUB9603H(about 1200B?) - long time favourite of wi-fiDXing,

same model is made by Senao. It has detachable antena. You need also long USB cable(It can be 4meters/max).

Connect adapter(it is called:wireless USB adapter) to USB cable and cable to USB socket in your comp, very simple.

Then you can move adapter with antena to sweet spot.adapter comes with 5dBgain antena,if it is not enough -

buy seperate high gain antena(long one) - 9dB.you can also try directional quad antena for best results.

This device is very usefull when you are on the move - in hotels,or GH,very often the best signal is just outside your window,or on the balcony.

You can use cheaper adapter with detachable antena - EUB9603EXT (600B?) from the same company, which is smaller

    see it here: www.engeniustech.com.sg

    TP-Link produce similar adapters,even cheaper,same about D-Link.

Very important part of such set-up is USB cable, long enough and good quality, you have to play also with orientation of antena rod(up,down ,left, right etc)

It is all very simple and not expensive.

  18. The crossing is now open to foreigners, but you need to get the visa in Bangkok first. Although, I have read conflicting reports on this - a travel blog says you can now get visa on arrival. I will not take the chance though.

I drove up to this border point in 2008 on the offchance that a visa on demand might be available, but was told that the crossing was only available to Thai and Laos nationals. This may have changed by now though.

My friends traveled that way last year and published report, which is in language you will not understand. They got Lao visa there. They stayed in Hamsa - world capital of elephants for few days, made some treks there, then proceeded to MekhongRiver and the rest of journey to LP they finished by boat. All the way they used local transport. They had some problem to find that border crossing on Thai side.VOA(visa on arrivel) is available there according to some official sources,if you get it in advance from Lao Embassy - it will cost you 5 bucks less at least. Road was so,so ;there is big construction site in that area - coal mine and power station at early stage of development, may be halted now.

tell us about your experience,if you could?

  19. I dont think - he lost already,in France they like such guys.Strong vital energy comes together with life energy .And they had Mr.M as president. He also loved women;he used to have dates everyday - everyday with different one?no! he liked to

have 3 dates in one evening - entre-main course - desert;and who? high society mostly, often somebodys wife, even royalty, once - queen;it was going on discreetly,no scandals - only after his trusted chaufere published his own memoires.

it was not much of scandal at all,but nobody complained about him,contrary..

And Mr.DSK is not worse - you might have heard it somewhere already, that during night before the incident,he had woman in his room, she had been identified and found, but she did not talk. And after midnight - later in very early morning DSK

tried to invite two times- female hotel staffers to his room, sadly - they refused.

there is one detail in this story not fully explained:blood on bed sheets;chambermaid reported it to manager declaring, that it was not her.So - whose?Him? - may be she bite his famous 30cmtrs dick(12 inch) during struggle?

It was not me,who called him chimpansee - it was that second lady -writer Tristan Banon, who called him so(even worse!)long time ago already:,however it was her very own experience, not hearsay.

I think he is medical case - satyriosis.

  20. DSK's own lawyers defense for what DSK was doing is...he hired the prostitute, performed the act and left without paying her the agreed sum.

So I ask again: Is this the man the left in France want to see as the President?

    Any link on this?

I doubt that story, because a handful of hundreds of dollars would be no object for DSK, even if the maid's services didn't meet his expectations.

The part in your post that is the most shocking for me would be "and left without paying".

That would cast my doubts over the person.

Regarding hiring prostitutes, I think many politicians should do it more often, especially female ones.

Maybe that could relax them a bit.

He did not hire her,he had just jumped on her, like chimpansees do and he thinks, that she should enjoy that.

  21. I have a heavy electric wheelchair...about 150kg....does it seem as though it could be lifted on board....it is about the same as a motorbike?

Problem. These are hydrofoils and access is via a stairway, is that likely to cause you mobility problems ? Really would advise you to ring first re the wheelchair. There is a car ferry that goes to Langkawi but think that might be only from Malaysia. Or if there is one from Satun doubt that its on such a regular basis as the above.

    Thanks for the info.

I used to travel on hydrofoils many times, but never between Langkawi and Satun,I've never seen hydrofoil in LOS/Malaysia.

You can fly on hydrofoil from HK to Macao if you want to try.

This is ordinary fast small ferry, not very poshy, access is via quite narrow staircase, but I think - they will take your chair as cargo.

    just give them some time.

  22. IMHO the most convinient way for you to go to Siem Riep is...go to Laos.Take sleeper bus which goes direct to Siem Riep;these buses go from VienTien and from Pakse - overnight.Vien Tien bus goes along MekhongRiver down south passing your home on the way.You start in the evening - next day you will be in AngkorWat or even in PP,if you wish.Sleeper bus means: couchette - you have bed to lie down, but you share it with another passenger - sometimes, with good luck - blond scandinavian;but if you have bad karma - you may end up with old prick like me.It is very comfortable ride.On the way - you can visit 4000islands archipelago(SiPanDong) and waterfalls there.

You can also take direct flight from Pakse to SiemRiep(half an hour).
