  1. Have had it with True Hi-speed and its horrible service and slow load times, Google and Yahoo takes anywhere between 2-5 mins to load on a 2 mbps service, and has been like this for the past 2 months. Thinking about switching to Maxnet anyone that currently used it have any pros and cons?

Does Maxnet block sites such as bittorrents? How good are live video feeds ect....?

    Thanks for any input!

I also sacked TRUE and went to KSC. Although a part of the TRUE group, they assure me their service and product are both better. So far (early days - 1 week) so good.

I got the month-by-month service - about 1500 for 2Mb but I do get close to 2Mb as opposed to TRUE 4Mb that was usually slower than my edge phone. I think the contention ratio is the problem with TRUE. Too many snackers, not enough chocolates.

  2. You don't say if you need it to be color or not?

If just for black & white I can highly recommend Samsung ML-1640 Mono Laser printer, we use it at the counter in our shop, what I like about it is that it's so fast to start printing after you press print, other printers we've used took forever to get ready to print and that wasn't ideal when the customer was stood waiting :)

Ditto, but you only get a 500 sheet cartridge with the Samsung out of the box - buy a new 1500 sheet cartridge and have it refilled.

  3. Hello all,

Just thought I would stick my head in and let you all know that the problems at this end are persisting.

I went to the local TT& T office today and the lady there was none the wiser about any of this, however she was quck to suggest we go from indy to premier packages..... :D which is exactly what you want to do when you get such good service from an organsiation NOT!

Anyway, due to the fact she was no english communicator and the fact my thai is certainly not thorough enuf to run thru all of these problems the GF gaver her a brief rundown and we were directed to the 13 number. :D

I left the office with absolutly no doubt in anyones mind that I was certainly NOT going to pay for this service. The lady at the branch said it was important to again check our line to see that there wasnt a problem with the line....naturally after they do that we will get some other excuse....

I'm not sure what annoys me the most, the fact that this PATHETIC INTERNET COMPANY cant provide a service or the fact that these people think we are THAT STUPID. :D

did you tell them "I'll be back"... like in that well known movie... ? :D

Webfact, I get the feeling theres no point telling them anything, they forget 2 seconds after you walk out the door.

Funny one for you, rang the 13 number again, spoke with the chap, explained the problem & he asked if he could check something and ring back, took down both of the telephone numbers, the house and the mobile and hung up. That was about 70 minutes ago, maybe a bit longer, why do I have the feeling hes never going to ring back? :D

I've got that feeling too... :) Don't give up - stand tall! TiT and a miracle can happen at any time... :D

Its a cultural problem as much as an educational problem. Thais tend to make assumptions about a lot of things which are almost impossible to shift - often because they are too lazy to get information and actually think about stuff - a knee-jerk is always easier and involves less effort. They will assume they know what you need even better than you do and there is often no way to get a Thai to listen to the possibility that they got it wrong... even if they wanted to admit the possibility, which they don't. Getting stuff wrong is a face-loser and face is more important than anything else to a Thai. Admitting error by changing their initial assumptions is often a definite no-no.

Since their managers never hold them accountable, they never learn any different. Make no mistake, a manager is there for as long as the staff think they should be there. So no point complaining to the manager.

In Thailand, smoothness of relationships and social interaction is more important than actually doing a good job. Much more important. That's why they're still a part of the developing world and perilously close to being a failed state.

Oops, did I just break a forum rule? Perhaps I had better complain about Germans instead. Or Finns.

  4. Yontrakit has a reputation.

I really like the Scirocco, Caravelle, Audi Q5 and Pegeot 308cc, but

It would be illegal to mention anything negative about Yontrakit, even if anonymous :)

Thanks, I heard what you didn't say.

I didn't think it was accidental. It didn't feel accidental.

  5. I don't understand why when someone asks a real question looking for advise that a number of people put up nonsense. Are they bored or what. Why are we forced to have to wade through their nonsense to find real replies? Maybe there needs to be a forum for silliness...they can play there. Or are they just inconsiderate people?

I have Dtac Edge and have noticed a real decline in speed recently...using both Opera and Firefox as browsers. If it continues I may try AIS....

I have an AIS netsim which I use in the phone with the laptop whenever I am upcountry.

The service is great, very solid, 20+kbps pretty much all the time. If I ever get a problem, there is a lovely Australian-educated supervisor there called Missy. Whatever they are paying her, it isn't enough. A very welcome anomaly in the pimple that is Thai call centres.

  6. I have CSLOX at home, and it is close to useless during business hours. I pay for 1024 down, and many times my speed is slower than even modem speed and sometimes it completely grinds to a halt. If I find myself working at home during business hours, I often use tethering with my iPhone and connect to GRPS, which believe it or not, is much faster than my CSLOX ADSL connection!

It probably depends on where you are located and the hub involved, but nothing could be worse than CSLOX during business hours for me.

Sounds just like my 4Mb TRUE crapnet service. Changing to KSC 2Mb Lite next week, which I was worried to find out is also a part of the TRUE group. Still, they say they are different and the service suggests that may be true (no pun intended). We shall see...

  7. Took the car to Yontrakit to have the aircon checked.

I was told the compressor was buggered. When I asked how they know, they said they checked the pressure - buggered. A new one was 38,000 plus fitting (twice what you can buy it for elsewhere).

Just got the car back after having a local guy look at it. Verdict: compressor is fine, pressure is fine, a faulty switch appears to have been the problem. Aircon now cold enough to put icicles on my beard. Odd though, the aircon guy said they couldn't have checked the pressure without repairing the switch. Odd that...

Now I like to be charitable but this seems like it could easily have been a scam if it had been a less reputable company.

Call me naive but does this happen often?

  8. Hi Kevin,

I have an Audi and was feeling a bit ripped off by the Audi dealer in town as they only could replace parts for new parts.

Problem with your and mine car is to find the parts as that is more difficult for an Europe car especially when they are older.

However I found an garage whom seems to be very reasonable and honest.

It is at the end of the Sangkaepheng road at the south side.

    Tambon Parbong.

His name is chang, and his telephone number is 0817466590 I think it is worth a try to call him.

    eln

    Many thanks Eln, greatly appreciated.

    Where is Sangkaepheng Rd?

  9. I have alwayd used Yontrakit to service my Peugeot but these days it seems to me that they are turning into rip-off merchants - over-charging, crap service, people who don't listen to what you say and aren't interested, the usual Thai thang.

So I need a reliable place to get my services done. I live on Srinakarin Road. Anyone know of a good place to get service and minor repairs done?

    Kev

  10. That's good advice from both, and I thank you both for it.

On the back of the a/c thing, they just charged me 20,000 for a 80,000km service on the Peugeot 406, which prompts me to look in other directions now that the vehicle is 4 years old.

Anyone know of a good place to get regular servicing done in Bangkok? (I am close to Seacon Square, Srinakarin Road). Also, is there a good auto aircon place I can go to following that suggestion?

    Kev

  11. I have a Peugeot 406 (2004 model), and the aircon has gone west. Yontrakit ae wanting to charge me 40,000 for a new compressor, but this seems a bit much and something about the guy didn;t seem right.

Anyone know what a reasonable price for this is and is there a good repair shop I should be going to? I live close to Seacon Square on Srinakarin Rd.

    Cheers for any relies...

  12. "Can't see the point of tutorial schools being asked to shut. Surely if you wanted to close places where students or young people gather..."

If students and/or young people don't gather there, business isn't too good for them.

If the attempt to limit the spread of the flu is genuine, I applaud whatever they do.

so it's ok to get flu on regular schools or in a mall or whereever but not doing extra study or in internet cafe's?

It seems so. No need to worry about bars, clubs, schools, buses.

Smoke and mirrors, designed to appeal to the average Joe who isn't too hot on the whole thinking thing but knows how to be easily impressed.

  13. If I had to go to bed and place a suitcase underneath that bed, filled with the currency of my choice, that would be all I had when I woke up in five years time I would say that sterling would be pretty much high on my list of choices, as would be yen or the dollar. It certainly wouldn't be the Thai baht.

So come on then what would you like to have in your suitcase ? :)

I may live to regret it, but I just moved some dosh offshore for a long-term investment. I chose 40% UKP and 60% USD.

If the OP is right (and I don't think he is), and you hear a scream from the general direction of Bangkok, it might be me.

  14. <em>"Maybe i am wrong, but didn't they require a copy of your passport?

so if you have an outstanding account with them,

couldn't they simply contact the immigration.

then when you try to leave they could detail you.

After all that is what i thought they would want a copy of the passport for,

for that very reason, non payers.

    just my 2 bobs worth

    but good luck"</em>

I doubt this Chris, Thais are not that well joined up. The obsession with passports (and ID cards if you are Thai), is that historically it has been difficult to establish identity. You may know that names in Thai are something of a moving feast.

Thais assume that people will rip them off. An entertaining irony you may think...
