  1. i, myself wouldn't mind buying a tonne and let it sit in my barn.

1000 kgs, less wastage (ie rotten, feeding mice etc) would more or

less leave me with around 700kgs just for 8k bht.

I would think its a steal! Could probably eat it for a year (Isaan family in tow!)

but then again, they would probably have a MOQ...... (Minimum Order Quantity)

  2. I have never gotten an email, text message, phone call or fax regarding

who was getting paid and how much

if payment is not in full?

With all this bs about having money

& not being able to pay squarely

because of the protest is nothing

    more than simple bs!

    Now, dipping into 'reserves?'

Pray tell, WHO's picking up the tab?

    Certainly NOT the next PM...!

  3. If you go through a head-hunter for the job, most likely just trying to get the commission due to the current turmoil here.

Nothing out of the ordinary. I'd say stick it out for a while and research the market.

Like you, I came here looking for a job but in the oil & gas sector (already been living here for 5 years)

First recruiter/head-hunter offered me slightly less than 80k.

I had only 12 years experience onshore.

Leisurely took 2 months looking around and was able to conjure up 2 prospective jobs.

One was offering 145k and the other 180k excluding housing, medical etc which are all extra.

    Now tell me, where's 80k, 145k and 180k?

No prizes for which offer i took.

Whatever it is, never ever sell yourself short! If you think you're worth the 70k then stick to it but don't shoot yourself in the foot a few years later!

PS none of the expats I know draw anything less than 100k & they are not much older than you.

  4. don't worry, the local BiBs are very good at sniffing out foreigners in the area,

lived there for a couple of years, anyone who has lighter skin (no racial tone intended)

always get 2nd looks since locals are predominantly of darker complexion

don't even try illegal things, village headmen know everything in that area..

its not worth the gamble (think rabid dogs with over-grown fangs)

like most posters say, do it legally! (fuss free & no fear of getting caught)

  5. if i saw him in my rear view mirror, for sure i'd get out of his way

it takes 2 hands to clap...

i always have stickers on all my windshield (bikes included) that say

"its better to arrive late, than to not at all"

"don't feed his ego (or in this case, RAGE) you know you've got bigger feet"

    :B

    hope no casualties :)

  6. OP is right, as I've always said.. We have not rights, what we have are purely privileges, nothing more.

    Online banter may be members'

forte but where rights are concerned, both you & I have none. Never had, not now & never will.

I thoroughly enjoy reading "keyboard warriors' views & expressions."

Sometimes I read them to a point I know they are already furiously banging on the keys : )

    Gotta love this forum!!

  7. I mean no disrespect but why would anyone promise to marry the other?

I shudder to think you did it out of compassion?

Making pick up payments before marriage should already set off warning bells. I don't suppose you'll do the same if you were back home?

Not exclusive to isaan but (statistics speak for themselves) many dream that their daughters will one day catch a foreigner.

Foreigners means more face & abundant help for the family. Sole

purpose is to wring you dry before you move on to another girl. To a thai, most foreigners are unfaithful, it's simply a matter of time.

Take some sound advice from people in this forum.

Many have been there & done the exact same thing.

If you do decide to move on to another, chance it a little & say you've got a little Indian origin & back home the bride-to-be pays the groom.

Or as one would say, cut the pick up payments to save for sin sot!!!

  8. What a circus!

    1.

gov says can't pay farmers due to protests hindering payment (supposedly has money to pay)

    2.

Gov needs to borrow from financial institutions to pay farmers

(now no more money to pay?)

    3.

Protester threaten to close banks who lend gov money

(doesn't want financial institution to bail out gov)

    4.

Protester campaign to raise money for farmers

(Money not to be given to ease farmers financial plight but for legal council?)

    5.

Gov pushes blame and tells mills to pay farmers (doing a he say, she said, apparently mills also not paid for warehousing yet)

    6.

Protester tells banks to lend gov money to pay farmers

    (why sudden change in tone?)

    7.

Gov now has a minute amount to pay farmers but who will it go to first and what's the duration for exhausting borrowed funds? (I wonder who'll end up paying those borrowed funds)

Are any of those reports holding any truths? If so, Who'll do what next is anybody's educate guess!

Am all out of popcorn, going to get some now!

  9. More often than not, what is deemed lawful in or around your home country doesn't necessarily dictate that the same applies here.

Taking legal action (that's if any thai lawyer will take your case) will definitely sour the already far from rosy relationship with the landlord.

Best to invite landlord over and come to a compromise on paper.

  10. It's like you have unwanted "guests" (people you don't even know) in your home and your neighbors tell you to home them...

    Would you? I know I wouldn't!

No one should question the sovereignty of a nation.

Weird, double/triple standards I see here lmfao....

I want a US passport, do I get it if I arrive by boat, get refugee status then naturalization?

    Amazing, only on TV!!!!

  11. Reported billions have yet to be paid to farmers on the rice scheme.

(Reportedly due to unrest and legality issues)

Now they are talking about trillions?

Not sure how the proposed will pay for the loan but don't hold your breath....

What next on the table if this doesn't fall through, GAZILLIONS?

  12. Thanks for all the valuable advices

So I'll put my foot down and only get a cook and one more to prep the food and also one wait-staff and see the outcome. I'll only do the sauces!

I agree, good staff are hard to come by and risk having them fly the coup

Will be serving up a collection of food

from asia with the help of local produce

My wife and I both come from a food and beverage background in Hong Kong, Malaysia & singapore and am willing to ride this tsunami (reads willing to loose the invested amount)

Now, looking at pricing of food. Will need to tie in some wholesale vendors to price menu. 15 dishes max.

Since minimum wage is bht 300, what would be considered fair for cook, prep staff and wait-staff?

    Thanks

  13. Cool down guys...!

    Appreciate all the help, sincerely!

    Am doing the signage now.

Will consult the tax bill when it comes, am ready for a shocker no doubt. Fingers crossed.

Confirmed 2 cooks and 3 wait-staff. that should suffice since I anticipate free-loaders. Wait-staff allocated to specific tables. Tips their own, dependent on customers.

Will also get the required licenses (going down the straight route)

Thank again for all the heads-up

    Cheers
