  1. I have had several of the smaller 250/500 UPS's over the years, and to be honest they are not really worth the bother. I now have 2 1500VA APC units and they are excellent, well worth the price. I will also recommend Leonics as their service is typically Un-Thai (fast and efficient).

  2. I have very fond memories of the Grace and Thermae back in the early 80"s, Nana Disco tried to take that trade away, and was reasonably sucessful in the mid late 90's, but when they introduced the entry charge, it just wasnt gonna work, not with the huge amount of street girls floding sukumvit in the 90's (something that you didnt see in the 80's). I think this was just another case of Thai management thinking the good times were gonna last forever no matter how anti-falang the whole scene became

  3. Wow this case is just unbelievable.

What kind of government would trade good employment for a quarter million of it's own people and diplomatic relations with a major energy producer for some baubles? That this not only happened but was and still is being so ruthlessly (the latest pathetic and humiliating bib theater notwithstanding) and blatantly covered up leads to only one inescapable, shocking conclusion. So sad.

Problem is ..as usual here, its not about the government or the people its about the people who really run the country. I have been here through this whole amazing story, and believe me, it will never come out. The people who wore these jewels dont give a hoot about the lost remittances of workers, they are alright jack..thanks very much

  4. Hi.

What's the panic about 10 cm's of water? I used to work near Lad Phrao intersection for some time and last year i had to cross knee-deep water there several times.

Also in Sukhumvit i had my motorbike (a normal, not under-bone one) die when the water reached the top of the cylinder, in places it was hip-deep then (~60-70 cm's).

And no matter what they do, first time it really pours it's all flooded again anyway. My boss lives in a village of Pathanakan where all streets are 10-15 cm's deep flooded after 20 minutes of rain, EVERY time.

    Best regards.....

    Thanh

Reminds me when I lived out there in Soi Suan Luang in the early 80's, We had to take a boat out to pattanakran road. I guess they havnt got much better in 30 years.!

    cheers

  5. Perhaps router was set up to be hidden?

yes - maybe the wireless AP was not broadcasting its SSID

It looks like the answer might be in these replies. In order...

    1) I have gotten over the habit of not making sure the wireless button is on. That has happened in the past, but not now.

    2) One thing that might answer some of your questions. I use Windows XP and have Automatic Update turned on. I noticed I got an update just a few days ago.

    3) I believe I have Service Pack 3 or equivalent. As implied, my XP is licensed, and I get updates. I am not certain that that means I have SP 3. Now that I re-read your posts, I see it is WPA3 that was mentioned. I don't know what that means.

    4) Bottom line, you have given me some clues on what to try. Unfortunately, or maybe not, it will be at least a week or so before I can get back over there to try out your suggestions. I will let you know the results after that.

    5) One answer that could be helpful. How would I know if the Wireless router is set up to be hidden?

    6) Oh, and one more question to Bruce, what steps do I take to check out your suggestion? I am pretty much of an techno-idiot, but I can follow detailed instructions

Thanks for all of the input.

    Tom

For 3) on the desktop, right-click on My Computer, the first screen will tell you if you have SP3.

for 5) your friend needs to log in to his wireless router and ensure that "Broadcast SSID" is turned on. He may also have MAC address filtering turned on, in which case he needs to add the MAC address of your computer to his list.

    hope that helps

  6. I currently have a Huawei SmartAX MT880 connected to my Belkin N1 Wireless Router. Everything working OK. I have just been given a brand new Dlink All in one ADSL2+ Ethernet Router, Which as the box says is an Ethernet Router with Built in ADSL2 modem.

So I am thinking of swapping out the True supplied Huawei and substituting the Dlink.

I guess I just set it up for Bridging and let it fed the Belkin and everything should work ??.

Or are there some special settings I need to do before shooting myself in the foot ??

    regards

  7. I had the same problem, DSL disconnecting with True. Sometimes good for hours sometimes dropping every 10-20 mins. This all started right after the huge Storm over here in bang Phli a few days ago. Finally got the tech here (he was working in the Mooban) I convinced him to change the Modem and its been good since then. So not really sure if it was outside problems due to the storm or maybe the modem got slightly zapped during the storm.
