  1. A digital smart TV still needs to be connected to an external digital antenna to receive the signal. Readily available at electrical stores for a few hundred baht but you will then need to mount the antenna outside somewhere. Once connected you can tune in all the channels.

  2. I have a 12-month ongoing retirement extension and also have a yearly AETNA insurance plan that covers Covid and is good for re-entry into Thailand. I have read that the Covid insurance coverage should cover the length of your visa. How can this work with yearly renewable plans if the retirement extension and insurance policy do not start on exactly the same date? I plan to leave Thailand for 3 months soon and on my return in January my yearly insurance expiry date is before my retirement extension needs renewing. Anybody had this issue when applying for a CoE? If so was the CoE application accepted?

  3. If you are travelling out of Thailand you need to closely check the Covid entry requirements of the country. I'm not sure about Dubai but I hope to travel to Oman in October and their regulations clearly state that the Covid vaccination certificate must have a QR code that can be scanned and links to a database that confirms the validity of your vaccination. The vaccination certificate issued by Thailand's MoPH, as seen in your Mor Phrom record, does this and should be officially recognized. The Thailand Vaccination Passport does not have a QR and is really not much use anywhere right now. It looks good but that's about all. On the other side of the coin, I have two mates who are also hoping to travel to Oman at the same time. One is from the US and the other Canadian and neither has a vaccination certificate with a QR code. Both are having issues getting visas.

  4. If you want a high-res, good quality dashcam then I would also recommend 70mai. I bought a 70mai Dashcam Pro Plus+ front cam only but rear cam is also available. Easily fit it myself and has many features that cheap cameras do not have. Bought mine from AliExpress coz was a bit cheaper than Lazada but took a couple of weeks longer for delivery. Recommend also you purchase a high endurance memory card for the dashcam as they loop record continuously. Check out their website to see what they have available.

  5. The whole appointment system is a farce! I know a young girl (Thai 21 years old) who simply walked into a vaccination center in Bangkok yesterday without an appointment, said she had tried to register on the app but it didn't work. They took her details and gave her a vaccine shot on the spot. And other people with appointments were cancelled..........! Not much else you can say really.

  6. If you want to buy an iPad then buy it on the Apple Thailand website where you can get a student discount. I recently bought an iPad Air and saved around THB1600 on the $19900 normal price. You don't need to provide any proof of being a student, just need to follow the correct website link to get this discount. For any accessories needed like pencil, keyboard, etc. just buy generic versions (not Apple products) from Shopee at a fraction of the price. They work fine.

  7. Had numerous letters from the UK in the last few months and all have taken around 4 weeks to get here (Hua Hin). Thailand to the UK by air mail is much quicker. Recent letters have take 10-14 days. Use standard registered post which is not expensive for normal letters and use the online tracking number to track to the UK destination to confirm delivery. Works very well.

  8. Has anybody taken out medical insurance policies with either Pacific Crest of WrLife? Pacific Cross regularly advertise on Thaivisa and I saw WrLife post an advert for the first time yesterday. They appear to be based in India with a local agent!! WrLife rates are quite a lot cheaper for comprehensive coverage compared to other providers so what's the catch? Pacific Cross are more expensive but well priced. I am looking at full international coverage, not just the locally compliant policies required for OA visas. Any feedback about either company would be much appreciated as I am looking to change my current Aetna Platinum policy which is getting expensive for the level of coverage it provides. I am 61 years old.

  9. I read a few days ago that the Gophuket registration to enter Phuket at Sarasin bridge would no longer be needed from 18th June. This was a comment from the new Phuket governor but I have not seen anything official yet. Has anybody entered Phuket by road in the last few days and can confirm whether registration is still needed or not? I plan to drive to Phuket later this week.

  10. I would like to rent a standard 2-door pickup truck for a few days. Does anybody know where I can find one in the Hua Hin / Cha-am area? Rental companies only seen to have cars available and I need a pickup to transport some bigger items.
