I connected my Bangkok Bank account to my Social Security Direct Deposit when it was first allowed/offered. When the stimulus check was authorized all information I saw in numerous articles was that the IRS could not /would not make a direct deposit in a foreign bank. Surprise, about 2 months after the first stimulus began to be sent out, I received it via direct deposit into the same account as  my Social Security . I filled out NO form or request. This time I got the second "Stimulus"  just 2 HOURS after my monthly SSA on the 4th of January. YMMV.

My current account is a direct deposit account . I switched from an account that went through the BBK Bank branch in New York which required me to withdraw funds directly in person. The DD account allows me to use a ATM/Debit card. Recommend any one to switch . You need to set-up new account, no more withdrawal in person.

No more ridiculous than Filipino English teachers, or backpackers without degrees from the UK/USA teaching.

The Chinese teachers are teaching Chinese and the Japanese teachers are teaching Japanese. The last government school (located in Isaan) I taught at before I retired had both. China subsidized most if not all the salary of their teachers. Now that school has trained Thai teachers teaching those languages. By all accounts those young Thai teachers are doing a very good job teaching the basic skills of those languages.

  4. Cambodia police chief sacked over sexual misconduct in landmark case

PHNOM PENH (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - A high-ranking Cambodian police official has been sacked over sexual misconduct at work in a landmark case in the Southeast Asian nation but will not be prosecution to “protect the dignity” of the women involved, a police official said.

Two-star general and Kampong Thom provincial police chief Ouk Kosal was suspended last month pending an investigation into accusations of sexual misconduct made by four junior female officers that hit the headlines.

In a rare public outing of sexual misconduct by an official, he was accused of forcing the female officers to perform sex acts at work under the threat of blocking their careers.

*****This was obviously more than a pat on the butt or improper speech.  ***guess i should of read the 3rd page before posting, however the repetition may drive it into the consciousness of T.V. members more effectively.

Some experts are saying that the infection from the virus in China is more likely to be 4 to 5 times higher than what the Chinese government is saying which in affect could mean the death toll might be as high as 4,000 to 5,000 very scary if true .

    "...

For as long as I can remember now, we've been saying 36,000 people die each year from the flu.  When we've asked the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for updated figures, they told us 36K was the best they had.

Didn't seem quite right that it never changed year after year.

Now it turns out the 36K was calculated way back in 1999, when flu deaths hit a peak.

A new analysis of the past 31 flu seasons, put out by the CDC this afternoon, shows that 36K might have been a third too high. It's more like 23,607 per year, on average. But it all depends on how you slice the data.

The new average is an average of the past 31 seasons. It goes all the way back to 1976. But if you were to look at just the past 10 seasons, the average per year is higher -- 32,743.

Or you can look at this way: In some years as few as 3,349 have died (back in 1986-7).  But the highest annual average toll was 48,614, just seven seasons ago (2003-4)....

MORE HERE: Common flu in USA ... 1/4 the pop. of China. Huge tightly/highly populated mega cities in China. Epidemic/pandemic? Numbers will have to continue to rise exponentially before the need to panic.

  6. I'll add my experience to the record. After teaching for one school in Bangkok until I was sixty I was able to withdraw the accumulated pension amount which was half contributed by me and half by the school, plus interest. I received 75k in cash in less than 2 hours (I arrived at social security office at the beginning of lunch hour+. The process required the sign off by the office manager who was out for lunch and that accounted for the delay) Amount contributed by me was 3% of the first 15k of salary . The school was required to match that. Since I was 60, they gave me 6 months free coverage and then the option to continue insurance by payment of 432baht/mo. The insurance covers everything. It has paid for a two level fusion of cervical vertebrae to correct pain and numbness in arms and hands and also a two level laminectomy of lumbar vertebra. Each operation was a bit over 100k. The only thing I paid for was a private room for recovery.  I now receive medication for hypertension and cholesterol, again all paid for in full. The last time I talked to the SS office I found out that I was again accumulating money in the pension fund of about 300 baht each month (plus interest). (Didn't know that!) However that money cannot be paid out unless you decide to give up insurance. Leaving country...knowing the "end" is near? There is also a death/cremation benefit of 40k. The accumulated benefit and death/cremation fund can be assigned to a beneficiary/spouse. RE: Bangkok hospitals: All gov't hospitals are partners as well as some mid level private hospitals which elect to join.

  7. 37,000 tons out of 17 million tons = 2% spoilage... whistling.gif

Two percent, so far... It's yesterday's news that upwards of 6 million tons is believed to be unfit for human consumption. Quote from 8/15/2015

"It is estimated that Government stocks currently total about 13.6 million metric tons. Around 7.6

million metric tons are food-grade rice, of which 0.3 million metric tons are good quality rice and

7.3 million metric tons are sub-standard rice. Meanwhile, around 6 million metric tons are nonfood grade rice, of which 4.6 million metric tons are industrial grade rice and 1.4 million metric

tons are rotten rice or unaccounted for." ...from USDA report

Sorry this doesn't fit your narrative.

  8. Go to any of the computer stores,(i.e. Advice, JIB, Banana IT) and take a look at monitors on display. You should be able to get a 24" monitor for 4000 baht +/-. You won't find an IPS screen in a desktop monitor because it is obviously used differently than a tablet. It just sits there. At that price you'll get a 1920X1080 LED. BENQ, Acer, Samsung. I have both a BENQ and an Acer. Both do the job with DVI, HDMI and VGA inputs. "Put" your eyes on them and take your preference.
