  1. Mr. Blair is a decent and honourable man, although some may disagree. It is however, rather indicative that a positive event is used to vent the usual negativity. Surely, one can see the good that comes fromt his type of event. Jiminey,so many sourpusses.

Blair is Mrs Thatcher in trousers... and as for a decent guy, Thaksin is in the same league as Blair... Megalomaniacs together ... !

Mrs Thatcher absolutely adore her, Maggie in power enabled me to make money to be able to retire to Thailand, so smile.png.

  2. Jaywick certainly will not do! I think twinning with Clacton might be a goer though as there is Wetherspoons on the front and that just might be the clincher for twinning and it does have a direct hourly train to Liverpool Street, remind me now how big is the train station station at KPP and how many trains to BKK? Or did times and progress wizz by, leavinf all the geriatrics in a time warpmfr_closed1.gif

Time to go to another bonfire!

Stop you are inflaming. Whetherspoons, Specklehen, Shipwreck, Youngs Directors, and my favourite Fullers ESB commonly know as " extra special brain " damage. biggrin.png

  3. Do you have any experience with this? Yes and adoption as well.

At what age did you come into their lives? Thai son 10 daughter 12

Do they treat you like a parent? Son no, more like a friend, daughter yes like a dad.

Have any made a negative or positive attitude adjustment at a later phase? No more than my own just in different ways as my own did.

Any issues with your spouse's family and/or your stepchild's boy/girlfriend? No why would there be.

Has your step child impressed you? They don't have to impress me, I love em in my way.

Have you ever split with anyone due to your relationship and/or the behavior of the stepchild? No.

Do you feel there will be a point where the stepchild will long for their genetic parent? My son still see's his father, my daughters parent's are both dead.

    What's your problem. rolleyes.gif

  4. kwasaki- no exception taken to your comments and suggestions, thanks for the concern.

if nothing else, i had anticipated spending a few months solo to get set up before my son would join me. I can't imagine that going thru the rigors of setting up a place for the both of us, getting the ball rolling with work, sifting thru paperwork and visas, etc would be anything short of next to impossible with him in tow from the onset.

Well I'm sure you know there are relative forums here for visa info and business, goodluck. K

  5. in Florida where I build a house a few years ago, cement block with out columns is used most of the time. as the block goes up reed bar is placed inside of some of the cement block cavities and what in essence is a small column is poured inside the vertically aligned cement block cavities. The inside of the wall is finished with metal or wood furring strips attached to the block wall , and drywall, attached to the furring strips . The space between the furring strips and the block wall is used to run the electrical and plumbing utilities and to install insulation.

I dont see why the same can not be done here.

You could do it here if you could get the same blocks that are used in Florida, or use double tied Thai concrete blocks interlapped at corners and wall junctions.

Columns are just a way of making a building even stronger.

As I said before " You can build a house out of mud & straw if you want ". smile.png

  6. I bet a typical Thai Mor 6 (US Grade 12 or UK Year 13) student can beat Mr. Blair in English grammar (multiple choice) test.

However, sadly he/she cannot utter a resonable sentence verbally.

With the 1 day a week Speak English Campaign, things will change in Thai school. In 3 years, Thai student will get pass the Malaysian, and in 5, pass the Philippinos, and hopefully in 7 years out speak thoses who speak Singlish.

Are you actually ON or OFF your medicine?

I am not joking. Thai student must memorise all the grammar rules by hard, and they are trainned to do mulitply choice test to perfection (in grammar).

However, please don't try to get them to write an essay, or do a comprehension test.

What a sad waste of time when they could learn to speak English, that should come first.

I have met teachers who think teaching gammer is a good idea, total idiots IMO.

The Phillippinos I've met told me they are taught to speak English from a very young age the same as English speaking nations do, makes sense to me.

I agree, It made the Thai kids happy and is nice to see them welcoming him without prejudice.

Yes it's very easy for people to judge after the event, I was for the war and then a bit doubtful when all the Iraqi officials turn out to only be talking propergander.

They say no weapons of mass destruction were found so what would people call " poison gas " soap bubbles, what Churchill did against the Iraqi Kurdish people was to gas them, he didn't get called a war criminal.

Saddam had gas and was accused of the same but at the time Iranian forces were in occupation of that part of Iraq. blink.png

  8. Pretty clear Kwasaki, although I'll bet 90% of windows would conform to Example 1.

Looks like our OP needs to come back with some sketches and dimensions.

Roughly how much blockwork above the frame (aluminium in this case) would you consider OK without a lintel?

Of course, having a lintel when none is really required is far better than not having one when it is required smile.png

Yep is always good to have a sketch of some kind, it's pretty easy to do on " paint " or similar programs.

The trouble with building is there is so many ways to go about construction, for me when I can see it or survey it, you can easily go about the works, it must be the same for you with electricals.

Any amount of blockwork above an aluminium window frame I personally would use a lintel.

I would say it's a matter of getting your measurement right in the first place, if you want to look out the window. biggrin.png

We had thick old hardwood frame which you have to drill, to get a nail into, so in some cases we have built a course of blocks across the top of this, anymore than that we put a lintel.

  9. It depends on your existing structure as to the position of any eaves or wall beams.

What the height of the window frame will be in relation to the above.

The actual window frame position in some circumstances can be strong enough.

For example if the window frames finish, is more or less below an existing support beam.

  10. Trusses and walls? huh.png Your statement evades me mellow.png? There are thousands of homes in Florida that have stood through decades of massive storms and are still standing..

I was just pointing out you wouldn't or shouldn't put roof trusses dirrectly on top of blockwork walls.

On top of the walls there is alway a beam, which acts the same as a column whether it's in timber or other material, beam tied to wall, trusses tied to beam.

Sitting a concrete padstone on top of a blockwork column for the truss to sit on is an alternative.

Quite right what you said before " simple really ".

Yes of course there is a "beam" on top of the block wall but as I understand it he's not referring to THAT type of beam, I read it that he's referring to vertical columns yes?

Yes but the original OP was asking about using superblock and even in that kind of installation, sometimes columns are required, whether they are in brick, blocks, rein-concrete or steel there is always a question of the way a building is tied within the construction, also opinions went the way of costs etc.

You can build a house out of mud & straw if you want, woosah.smile.png

  11. I can understand the negative comments about servicing by Thai dealers, but let me add a positive comment.

I went to Kosol to get 4 new tires on my car (to get the tires I wanted is another story!), they fitted the tires, balanced the wheels, cleaned the alloys and went on to check and correct alignment of the wheels on a computer thing. Impressive.

I wouldn't get the cleaning and alignment included in the price of the tires back in Holland, that's for sure.

No !! but you would get the tyres you wanted.laugh.pngbiggrin.png

I did get the tires I wanted .... Just took a tel call to the distributor here in Thailand, and they delivered them the next day to Kosol here in HH. now thats fast seervicee! of course i had to do it this way cause Kosol told me first they couldnt order the tires in that size, although they are dealers, and the size is listed on the website of the distributor, AND the tire is made in Thailand. I appreciated the shy smiles at Kosol when I came to have the tires fitted ...

Good call, they wanted to parm you off with what they have in stock, all fare in business & war eh !!.smile.png

  13. Kwasaki, thank you for your input on it. Btw, should I take it that the children you are referencing make their home in Sukhothai?

Yes, they do live just outside Sukhothai, there father is Hawaiian in the military and in 2 yrs is due for retirement, the short of it is, from living Hawaii, to Singapore and then to the Philippines and now Thailand.

Their mother is Thai and comes from the village and they are building their house on her family land.

The mother has a job here now teaching English, so when the father retires it's all set for them but for the childrens future who know's.

From what you have been saying is a dream for you at the moment but to make it reality is what is going to be in the test of time, I see your situation very different to my friends and personally if I were you I would come to Thailand alone and set yourself up, leaving your son in stable hands with his grandparents if that option is available.

Bringing you son along at this time at the tender age of 5yrs old to a road to uncertainty I don't think is a good idea.

I hope you do not take this reply as in a harsh one but only one of concern. I wish you well with your decision. K

  14. You mean you didn't consider this before you bought the bike?!

Good luck mate- you won't find many OEM parts for it here in Thailand.

You'll need to import most parts.

Doesn't matter what you paid for the bike- it's gonna be a serious money pit!

Sorry, probably didnt explain full story, the bike is complete 90 percent, non runner, need "repainting, chroming etc, its all there, electrics need sorting, have a look at the picture, see what u think, I know its gonna cost, u do it because u love the bike lolpost-137260-0-80924300-1326688017_thumb.post-137260-0-96254200-1326688090_thumb.post-137260-0-22642300-1326688121_thumb.post-137260-0-88269500-1326688414_thumb.post-137260-0-41421800-1326688467_thumb.post-137260-0-78866400-1326688493_thumb.post-137260-0-19622400-1326688534_thumb.

Goodluck with it, a total complete strip down, let us know when you fall out of Luv with it.biggrin.png

  15. Probably been posted before but It said today's date. http://www.motorcycl...ycle_Price_List and everything else you can buy in Thailand.

    Z1000 595,000.

people going on about twin the VTR 250 is a twin at 144,000.

on the website where is the CBF 250??

The list show the Honda CBR600RR. the 600RR should cost about 450K฿ The prices are for imported models.

the prices that i was thinking about where about the CBR600F.

okay well i guess we are just going to have to wait and see what happens.

What would your rather see a CBR600RR or a CBR600F?

Right where is the CRF that's why I had a look at the site.

The " Versey " price is right thought isn't it. ??

Is there better sites or prices for real in Thailand or can they only be got from Thai dealers.

CBR6RR or 6F I really cannot see why they cannot be both sold in Thailand I guess it's just the Asian way.

In the UK there is something like a £1000 quid difference in price, personally I would only go for RR and had one once.

There are a lot of people on this forum who are critical of that website; I do not want to stir any crap so I will let you look it up. However, the VTR 250 has never been officially available; there was talk that it may be available but instead the CBR 250R was slotted.

Having said that, the VTR 250 was priced at 8490 AUD as of 2009; the CBR 250 is priced at 6000 AUD. I don't know if there are different import taxes for Japan vis a vis Thailand, but on the assumption there is not that means that the VTR would have to cost at least 140K THB in Thailand before import duties and taxes. I would guess that is where the 144K figure came from. Guessing that you could raise that by at least another 50% (meaning you're looking at a ~215K bike) and it just doesn't make sensetm.

Thanks for info I was not aware of that but not surprised.

I use it to give myself a bit of a guide to motorbike model prices differences.

  17. My older son loves to go on tours and attend track events. We usually tour in large groups with support vehicles so the risk is really quite small.

    Cute pics

    Congrats!

BigBikeBKK, on Yesterday, 09:45 , said " My older son loves to go on tours and attend track events. We usually tour in large groups with support vehicles so the risk is really quite small."

That wasn't me is was BigBikeBKK I gave it a +1 because that's what I use to do with my son when I was younger, a great thing for fathers to do, my daughter liked to come along as well biggrin.png .

  18. Maybe the sales of a 600cc-1000cc may not be high for users in Thailand but the demand for the bike are out there in other countries. And Honda should be able to sell some bikes here and also import others.

If they do that, expect Yamaha/Suzuki pricing; you won't be able to pick a Honda bike up for the fantastic (for LOS) price that Kawasaki offers their bikes at.
