  1. Why do u guys think u deserve more than a Thai to do the same job?

Simple: expertise often yields overall cost savings. Greater expertise can result in drastically lower total costs of ownership (TCO) of tech and often gives a competitive advantage- especially in the fast-moving tech industry.

In any industry, you will find varying levels of competency and commitment to work. In my experience, asian cultures and education systems are not individualistic ...and with few exceptions produce low-quality software engineers (individuality drives creativity drives innovation). As for IT specialists, it is hard to find cutting edge technologists outside of the US, Europe and Australia.

Opining about Thailand (warning just one asshol_e's opinion): it is remarkable the total lack of sophistication here (in part due to the socialization & indoctrination)...in fact, few majors hardly qualify as mature adults. So, another direct answer to you're question: because I'd think a mature adult would be desireable, unless source perspective is childish as well. This is a national epidemic that should be a cause for great concern... but, the indoctrination is a solid mountain few overcome.

(Of course many westerners here fall under that immature heading as well, but the few adults I have met here are invariably western- it is the one key benefit to living in Thailand: the chance to meet very cool people from all over the globe on almost a daily basis)

How about ability to speak the local language? Is that a factor?

  2. I've had 7'11 clerks chasing me half a block

I remember once two 7-11 girls running out of the shop frantically shouting "Pi Ka!" and my daughter cried "Drive daddy!" They only wanted to return my wallet which I'd stupidly left on the counter when I picked up my shopping bags.

Later when I asked my daughter why she'd shouted "Drive daddy!" she replied "I thought you'd stolen something."

My mistake for letting her watch "The Italian Job" with me the previous evening.

Thats awesome. Your daughter sounds cool.

  3. I have to agree with all the posters. I get regular emails from Thai employment agencies and most jobs specify:

    * Thai nationals only

    * Sex specified - male or female

    * Age specified - usually 23 to 30yo

    * Nearly all jobs ask for a uni degree.

The few jobs I have applied for (where the above is open / not specified) I have been offered Thai wages. I have pointed out I am farang (from Australia), even included a picture of me in the application.

It turns out a few Thai companies (in the hospitality industry) want a farang face but want to pay Thai wages. The last job I knocked back was paying 35,000 baht a month - at a resort, where rooms start at 6,000 baht a night!

Welcome to the free market where one's value is determined by their output.

  4. My last 3 GFs all claimed I was the first or second foreigner and that they had only been with a single Thai man. So not particularly promiscuous. They were all in their very early 20s and reasonably well educated in 2 cases, one was very well educated, two came from very strict traditional families. And all three of them didn't want me to use a condom.

Very different to the behaviour of women of the same age group 10-15 years ago, who were very keen on condom useage.

It seems the fear of HIV has greatly diminished for the generation of women beginning sexual activity over the last few years, and like other posters I blame it on a reduction in education efforts.

My experiences are the same except I think the girls are lying about you being their first or their lack of previous partners. I have met very few girls here who do not fall into the following categories:

    I am a virgin

I had a bf a very very long time ago when I was a child (Which is funny when the girl is like 26 years old)

What I observe from Thais that live near me and just general experiences and overall body language and everyday going out into Thai society is that young Thai people are fuc_king like bunnies right now.

    "I am a virgin."

"Kool. Do you know the reverse cowgirl position?"

"Here let me try. Wow, I can do it touching my ankles at the same time"

  5. The gap between that .0001% of the human population who created medicine, built airplanes, and continue to advance technology is monumentally bigger than the gap you perceive exists between yourself and the rednecks who are on welfare with their eight children. What is it that you guys do for a living that you think society would benefit so greatly from if only people with your genes were around?

  6. I am not familiar with this person but its possible that he/she was a hermaphrodite and thus more feminine than the other LBs.

I have been fooled once of twice from the back or side by a ladyboy, but I have never seen any that were at all convincing even if I were drunk looking directly at them and listening to them speak.

  7. People always throw out that Bruce Willis or George Clooney line about age gaps. The difference is, most men and women would be impressed if a young girl claimed to be one of these guys girl friends where as if one of you old guys even approached a young University girl in Emporium they would probably be very embarrassed and their friends would be dying of laughter.

Now, if you go to a really poor area where the people are lucky to have indoor plumbing and are living hand to mouth, then sure, many will be equally impressed that a young girl was able to nab her an old buffalo farang.

Anyways... enjoy yourselves but lets not go overboard comparing yourself to Pierce Brosnan or Sean Penn.

  8. here's a question i'd like to add to this thread...

and please try and answer as honestly and seriously as possible( lol if that's possible)

to all the farang men that are in a relationship with a woman 20+ years your jnr, if you have children and for sake of arguement lets say a daughter

how would you feel if your daughter was involved with a man 20+ years her age or her husband was the same age or older than you the farang/dad

would this matter? would you feel comfortable? would you believe as long as your daughter is happy that it's not a problem?

or would you find the whole situation uneasy? or would being in a relataionship with a large age gap yourself remove any stigma and ill feeling towrads your daughters older partner?

    My background.

Japanese GF, beautiful, 23years my junior, together over 5 years. Her biggest worry is that I will dump her for a newer model -

My daughter aged 20, seriously head turner gorgeous, is good friends with my GF. I often say to her(my daughter) that one day she will realize older guys are better ...

I do wonder what young woman see in wimpy young men.. I mean really, what?

Ask your Japanese gf, she probably has a couple on the side. :)

  9. Does not matter. You can say, I am 21 and I ate Frosted Flakes for breakfast and that will make many people mad here.

Other things you do to infuriate the Thai Visa population is claim that you make a real salary, married someone with more than 3rd grade education, claim property ownership in multiple countries, say that you are not yet bald and workout regularly, etc.

  10. HIV rates are going to be significantly under-reported in countries like Thailand.

Prostitution is not the deciphering factor, its the lack of condom use. In the Nevada legalized zone, I do not believe a prostitute has ever tested positive for HIV. In Thailand though, the prostitutes probably have boyfriends who they sleep with unprotected who have a high chance of being drug abusers and promiscuous themselves.

  11. There is no hard and fast rule for age differences between Thai people from what I have seen.

I know Thai women of 19 and in their early 20's who are happily married to men in their 30's and 40's.

Many young Thai women who marry a man their own age group usually find themselves struggling for money to make ends meet with a man who wants to be out and about a lot, drinking and with his friends and after a child or two the man is off seeking a younger woman. Yet the woman with the older, more established and settled male seems a lot happier and settles herself.

Won't this type of girl will still remain in contact with said lousy first husband? Isn't that the hustle?
