  1. I can pull it up in Thailand now too. I could not earlier.

I am not a conspiracy theorist, and am pretty sure I am capable of working my device and spelling properly, but thanks for the tips.

Indeed it seems true. Cannot access via Internet connection in Thailand, but the site is still accessible from outside of Thailand. So, it is a firewall block. Interesting.
is it just a coincidence that the Pattaya daily news website is inaccessible this morning or has it been shut down by the police seeking to cover up the story?

Oh yeah...funny I just pulled it up on my iPad sitting here in pattaya having my coffee. I know pattaya is sometimes not considered part of Thailand so maybe that's why i can get it but maybe you guys just need to check your spelling or check that your devices are even on. Sorry conspiracy theorists...nothing to see here. LOLOLOL

  3. I suspect that a ninja was involved in the woman's death.

Much of the evidence points in that direction.

Many Japanese live in and frequent that area. The Japanese and Koreans still nurse the sore of WWII.

Ninjas are able to scale tall buildings and reach buildings silently using elk-fur-lined grapping hooks. They are also able to depart silently and unseen by leaping to neighbouring buildings using black silk parachutes. All of this would fit the known facts of the case.

Finally many of the farang resident in the area have ninja skills and training from their special forces' days. I know this because they have told me.

Dude, I'll have some of whatever you are smoking there, buddy!

  4. I thought the news implied language schols for a THIRD language such as Chinese. Didn't think it was referring to English at all.

Yes Rubi!! Isn't it the requirement of the school curriculum to teach Thai children to speak English? They declined the chance to make English a second language even though many signs are dual lingual.

  5. Saw something tonight that was interesting.

In Hua Hin, a cop that stopped to chat with fellow revelers tried to get back on the pillon side of the bike and completely fell off...while the bike was still.

Obviously, cop was hammered. But when he fell, peopke wanted to laugh but didn't....sort of a held back laugh.

Eventually, a few Swedish guys helped the cop back on his bike and he fell off again....

  6. FWIW, same here.

Been living here 9 years, married to a Thai, been to many Thai houses, but have never encountered this.

I have never experienced this habit in the hundreds of houses, apartments and rooms I have either lived in or visited in LOS

Same here, being here for almost 2 decades and travelled all over the country, have never noticed this.

  7. For what its worth, it has nothing to do with being farang. They make the same commission from Thais, and I can assure you these shops sell more products to locals than farangs.

A farang walks in and buys a TV they get 1000 baht rather than 300 baht that day.

  8. oh those so so poor Thais, my heart bleeds for them ...one day they will have to wake up and see the BIG PICTURE, Thailand a Country of Fools always being mistreated the more i stay here the more contempt I have for these dumb fools.

Let me get this straight. You read this forum, which is focused on Thailand, yet you spew such contempt and hatred for the people.

Go find a forum that discusses your own, far superior country.

  9. That's all well and fine, but I contacted the embassy in the US and they said not to use it. The US government agencies I went to meet with in Yangon last week also strongly advised against relying on the Visa on Arrival. Yes, it is POSSIBLE, but there have been too many reports to them of people being turned away. In fact, a fellow traveler, there with an official document to attend an education fair, was nearly turned away, despite phone calls to the inviting authority (after hours - fortunately the traveler had a personal cell number or that would have been the end of the trip). Even in that case, the inviting American official had to find the personal cell of a Burmese co-worker in order to convince the immigration officer at the Yangon airport. Why would one even take the risk when the visa is so easy to get in Bangkok? I'm a nervous traveler - leaving this to the whim of someone at an airport seems unwise to me. Give the program more time to get established and reliable. I posted in greater detail <URL to weblog removed>

Thanks for sharing that. You may have just saved me a lot of time and aggravation.

  10. I grew up with a mother who was obsessive about a clean house. It drove me nuts as a child.

Now, my house is indeed a bit messy. In the beginning, I hated it because I think my mother's obsession wore off on me. However, with time I have found that the house feels much more relaxed when a bit messy (though mom hates it when visiting).

Wish it was cleaner sometimes, but then again, the relaxed attitude to most things is why I live here. So, I just gotta take the bad with the good.

  11. I strained my back trying foolishly to lift something heavier than BigC yesterday, and had to go to the Lamai Clinic next to the Weekender Resort and get a shot of cortisone and some anti-inflammatory pills (which worked like a charm -- I love drugs).

Being next in line, I didn't need to wait long for an audience, but before I saw the doctor, I was looking at the sign on the counter and "practicing" reading the Thai. At the bottom, in very big English letters was printed that the examination fee to see the doctor is 500 baht. However, if you happen to be Thai or can read the language, you will notice that the first line on the top of the list says (in Thai) that examination and treatment is 100-500 baht.

I mentioned this to the doctor (who I think does a fine job, by the way, and have patronized him for years), and he just sort of giggled in the Thai way that says, "You got me, but so what?"

Anyway, another example of foreigners getting the shaft job in a place you would not really expect it.

Unfortunate for it to happen in a clinic, but i have never seen this is any public hospital...and I have been to uite a few over the years.

With private clinic, prices probably a bit higher for the convenience (like 7-11)
