  1. A pathologist, while an MD, is trained in additional skills that allow a proper cause of death to be termined. A GP or a surgeon, or dermatologist, or an ER physician may be competent in their field, but they are not qualified to render the same assessments as a pathologist. Surat Thani is the closest facility with advanced laboratory equipment and the expertise required to provide a detailed and comprehensive opinion. Surat Thani has a medical school and is a designated regional centre of excellence. Phuket does not have the same facilities for the simple reason that they would have been underused. Not enough dead bodies are in Phuket. It's why bodies get shipped to Bangkok from towns and villages 6 hours away and its why Surat thani is used. In the south Hat Yai is the designated centre. Trust this answers your concern.

Not enough dead bodies in Phuket to warrant such a facility ?

  2. Regardless of what this is all about, Thailand is surely now elevated from its place as merely a 'playground' for potential terrorists to come and have a bit of a 'blow out' before going and doing dirty deeds elsewhere.

Thailand will be slow to learn ... probably as slow as a lot of other countries ... but recent events shouldn't be ignored. People who are about to blow themselves up don't want a week in Mogadishu before the event ... they want pleasant Thai hospitality.

  3. No, he was looking for reputable export companies. He can't read Thai, so he takes pictures and has someone translate the signs. Export fertilizer in fan boxes. There are so many advantages. Large quantities per box. About the same weight. Same distribution of weight...makes sense to me. Case closed-no danger to Thai tourists.

I have a few Thai friends that have recently been asked (by an Australian-Pakistani guy) to translate company names from photographs taken around BKK ... they get paid 1 Baht per word and this 'work' came via a 'chance meeting'.

I am currently in the process of trying to contact them to voice my concerns.

  4. I have just built a new Win 7 32-bit system and am running IE 8.0.7601.17514.

One of my Home tabs is set to www.thaivisa.com. This page causes IE CPU usage to hit 99%. Some other TV 'main' pages have the same effect and I suspect it might be something to do with the advertising banners in the page headings.

I don't recall seeing this on other IE installations ... just this new one.

    Anyone else experiencing similar ?

  5. I guess the Siemens control system (that appears to have been the main problem delaying the opening of the On Nut - Baring stretch ... as in they forgot to build that into the original requirement ... but only what I have heard) suffered a few initial integration problems ... but comforting in some ways to know that the Silom and Sukhumvit lines have some form of shared control connection.

I'll turn the lights out at Udom Suk now ... tell me what happens at Sala Daeng ?

  6. It may be that the display image is not being scaled to the external monitor ..... see if you can move the mouse past the 'physical' edges of the screen and get the desktop to pan.

Can you actually see the mouse pointer on the external screen ? If not then make some wide sweeping left-right movements as the external monitor may be acting as an extension to the inbuilt display. Can also try right-clicking on the desktop (if you can see the mouse) as this may give access to the display properties menu.

One reason for the main display 'failing' could be that the ribbon cable attaching it to the motherboard has become unseated. You should be able to find some disassembly instructions for the model online which will allow you to open things up and give it a check.

  7. The 'scary part' is there is so much pressure from the "social networking" side of life now ... if you don't spend the majority of your time 'tweeting', 'blogging' or whatever (... keeping your "folowers" updated with all of your bodily functions and thoughts - at the dinner table with the family, when out with friends, etc) then you are a 'social leper' ..... you need to become "antisocial" in order to be accepted into 'society' OMG, <deleted>.

However ..... Dominic Twatt should be 'up there', if in name only. Trying so hard to make a 'name' for themselves.

As politicians tend to be 'all thumbs' does that mean that they will be communicating exclusively via mobile devices ?

  8. Some of those others may well be 'banged-up' for legitimate reasons - they should not be under consideration at this time. The apparent relaxing of detainment for ASSK should be grasped as an opportunity 'with limited focus' - people just seem to expect too much too soon. A bit Thai style I guess (because here we are) - I am eating breakfast now ... what can I eat for lunch.

  9. The more you look at it this has got to be a TAT attempt at a subtle survey - the tourists are on their way back so what is wrong here that might detract from their "feel good" experience.

The comparisons with Disneyland, etc, are obvious ... but the inclusion of observations of human behaviour are way above usual TAT data gathering tactics. Have they employed a 'specialist' ?

  10. Don't we just love those Thai techs ! I spend so much time trying to convey more than 30 years worth of good practice and experience to my techs who go out to service clients ..... always worry !

Good advice - copy all of your important data off to an exdternal HD prior to the upgrade. If you use Outlook for email then don't forget about the 'history' files.
